Thursday, October 30

Trucker did awesome. He is simply an amazing cat. He sailed thru the surgery yesterday. We left at 8:25 yesterday morning and back at the Rescue, I believe, by 1;00.  His surgery was a bit longer and that was due to his leg being backwards. Made it a little difficult to determine where things were at in regards to vessels, tendons, etc.  He has a nice muscle pad on this stump. Quite a few sutures. When he arrived back here, he ws once again in Dodger's Pen with the gel pad for cushiness. He ate supper and a late snack, peed (very important) and pooed (important too!). This morning he was down on the floor for a little over an hour. It looks like the suture line will be a little above the floor level, which is good. Trucker ate on the floor and then he spent the rest of his time zooming everywhere. And when I say zooming, I mean--he was really truckin' it!  What a kitten. Nothing is going to slow this boy down. He still has one more surgery to do. His "boy parts" are well hidden and he will have to have an abdominal look see, which means a bit of an incision. What is the saying---you can run, but you can't hide??  Well, his hidden parts WILL be found eventually! You may ask---why, if they are not down, do we have to go search for them. The answer is---they may still give off some hormones and we don't want that. And another important reason, because they are warmer in the abdominal cavity, it can increase the risk of cancer to these "parts". So, mission will be accomplished!

We are working hard on the Catapalooza.  It's 1;00 on Sunday. Get in a comfy chair, have some snacks, a warm drink and enjoy! I am trying my bestest to get all the stories done by then. Because of the time involved in doing this, I asked Ellen and Pat to do BOXES last night for me. That way, I could get another couple stories done!

We have some exciting news. Megan C, a webcam friend, has a jewelry company (sparklepopjewelry.com)  They would like to help FFRC! If you go to their site and would like to order something, on specific items, they will give FFRC 100% of the proceeds.  They will also send us some sample jewelry to raffle off, or whatever we'd like to do, to help us.  And they will make FFRC an affiliate, so that 20% of ANY order from our supporters will go to FFRC.  Wow!  Here's all you do to make that happen--Make sure you put in the "order comments" box during checkout, that they are FFRC Supporters. That will signify the 20% to us.  Thank you Megan for doing this for us. Her goal is to help as many kitties as possible.

We are having a little trouble with Merlee Jo. She has a major bladder infection. This is due to the horrible condition of her bum upon arrival. It's "leaking" bacteria into the bladder. Yesterday, I talked to 2 of the vets--different meds are now started to see if we can get more control on this. Cayden just run the equivalent of a 50 yard dash here in the office--that boy can fly! Little NeeMu is beginning to understand the other kittens are fun to play with. She's coming along. Right now, McHoney, Moose, Abner, and Dickens are on my desk. I'm not sure how on earth they think I can see my screen, but truly, they're not worried about it either!

That's it for today---must get back to Catapalooza stories!  Have an awesome day and enjoy your pets.

Nee Mu. That is the name of a new calico kitten that has arrived. At a volunteer's apartment complex, it appears that the people who just left, simply put the kitten out and departed.  Why do people do this?  I'll never understand. Nee Mu is doing wonderful. She is about 11 weeks old and is a white calico. Such a pretty girl.

We have names!  These are for the Merlee Jo litter.
Merlee Jo--long hair calico, black slip on nose, white tip tail   female
Jenna Joa--long hair calico, white tip tail, more white on nose  female
Beth--medium hair calico, gold tip tail  female
Priya-- short hair torti/tiger  (pronounced Pree-ya)  female
Norton--American short hair, black tiger  short hair  male
Teagan--long hair black tiger, slight ASH  male

We also had an adoption yesterday! Our sweet Esmee went with her new family. I do believe she is going to fit right in with them and be a happy girl with her new mom/dad.  So nice to see!

Jersey loves watching out the windows in Kitty Kabana Room. He will be there for hours, just absorbing all the action. Abner and Dickens again this morning, spent some time fishing out the silverware from the dish drainer. Niffie is a sweetie---she has grown into this very affectionate kitten.

The Anne Shirley litter is so much fun to watch. Their activity level is sky high. And so very cuddly too. Jambrew is everywhere playing--he's friends with all the cats.

Ada Jane and Jessie, our two oldsters are doing good.  Both have a good appetite. Mr. G hasn't yet adventured again into the Main Area. But he gets excited when he sees us come into the back Thumper's Room. He will jump onto the counter for lots of petting.

We have thanks to give! We had visitors, BOXES and envelopes. You are aprpeciated!

You know how we keep encouraging people that order thru Amazon, to go thru our website and click on the Amazon button to place your order? This is why: they deposited into our account for the month of September, $532.65.  Just wonderful!

Tomorrow is Trucker's surgery. We will leave here about 8:20 am.  I am planning on staying with him and bring him home after his surgery. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks for caring about this sweet, ornery, wonderful kitten.

Today is the official opening day of Catapalooza! This event is next Sunday, starting at 1;00. If you would like to hear a story about an FFRC cat or kitten, send in $5 to PayPal or a check. We'll add you to the Catapalooza fun day!  We will also keep track of how many requests per cat.  After the event is over, there will be a major big feast for the cats. The top two requested cats will get first dibs on the scrumptous meal!   Let's have some fun with this! I will try my very best to get the stories on any cat that is asked about.

Yesterday, Gusti and Trucker had their sutures removed.  Both surgical sites look really good.  Gusti acts like she has both eyes plus one more---she doesn't miss a thing! And then there's Trucker--oh my goodness, that boy is totally amazing. He can zip around like he has turbo speed. What a joy!  His surgery is this coming Weds.  I will be going up to sit with him again for this surgery.

CathyKay's kittens are out quite a bit during the day now. They are so sweet and love to tumble with all the kittens. The 6 kittens of the Merlee Jo group are also doing good. Such a difference in their size but the smaller ones are catching up now that food is aplenty and there are no more fleas. Mr. G is so very good with the kittens. He still comes up to the door to go into the Main Area, but usually he just likes to watch the action from a safe distance! His feet are so so big!

Yesterday Gustwiler Electric was here to finish the electrical work. We now have the trench and safe wiring in the big red barn.  This is so the Barnies can have a safe heat light for the winter. And also a bowl that we can plug in to keep their water thawed.  The Porchie Haven also has a light! Yeah--no more using flash lights! We also have two plugs so we can now plug in a heat light for them too. I love checking out their beds--it's easy to see that they've been sleeping in there as the blankies are rounded out! As long as this weather holds for us we will keep the Covies in Cat's Cove.  As soon as the weather turns wintery, we will move them to Kitty City. It's all depends on the weather.

Jessie is such a gorgeous cat. She's a happy girl and loves to be petted. She always goes to the kitty's bunkbed for her breakfast! Jersey is wonderful. I see him playing with toys and looking out the windows at the feeders and he just seems so happy. Derecho is on my lap right now and he's so intent on watching the monitor--there's dancing and singing going on.  He's enjoying it!

Here's the story of Merri this morning. She comes into the purple front office.  Looks at the door that goes into the Kitty Kabana room.  Decides to climb the two sets of Kuranda Towers in the office--that's 7 different layers she climbed. And then went thru the window into the Kabana, on the shelf, wobbled her way to the table, then the chair and onto the floor.  Wow--wouldn't it have been easier to just go thru the door?  She says: Yes, but not as much fun!  So, with that.....enjoy your Sunday!

We've had several adoptions this week. Yesterday Joanne Ellen was adopted. She went to a wonderful family with a young boy that will call Joanne Ellen his own! The next one was Caleb. He went to a teenager girl who already loved him! I love these adoptions!

We had a special adoption today. Snappy went to his new home! He went with Jenny and Brent who are from Canada and has adopted from us before. I am thrilled for Snappy. As you probably know, he has that desire to go outside. The good thing with Jenny and Brent is they have a beautiful backyard that is 100% cat proof and cat save.  No cats can get out and no cats can get in. It's wonderful! I do believe this is a perfect situation for Snappy.

Tomorrow we will have BOXES at 5:30 pm and then our Raffle Drawing at 6:00. We have quite a few consolation prizes too that we will be drawing names for! It's time to have fun!

I'm sorry, but this will be a short blog. Time has just been flying this week. Know that the cats are all doing great! Tomorrow Gusti and Trucker get their sutures removed.  Next Weds., Trucker is scheduled for his next surgery. Hard to believe it'll be 2 weeks already since his first. He's buzzing around here like a speedy boy!

Tuesday, October 21

Moose is a kangaroo! That boy can leap straight up in the air! He is one busy boy--all the time. Such a joy! He's a loving kitten, huge drive to play hard and is so very cute! He makes working at the desk a bit difficult at times, because he has to help me so so much, but wow--what a great kitten! And then if you mix Jarvis with Moose, you'd never need any other entertainment but to watch these two in action.!

Little Merlee Jo is doing better. Her poor little bum is still very sore but each day it's improving. She's down now on the floor enjoying all the toys, things to climb and her new kitty friends. Yesterday we got all the kittens and cats up to date on their vaccinations, wormings, testings, etc. Not too much complaining from them, as I promised to use a little baby neeble, as Derecho calls it! All the kittens have fully recovered from surgeries.

Another two-some kittens are Dickens and Abner, the beige brothers. What one doesn't think of, the other does. Their morning routine includes sitting in the big sink in the front Thumper's Room, plucking out any of the spoons, forks, dishes that's in the sink. One by one they drop them over the edge. I think they like hearing them clink on the floor. Two wonderful cats that need their permanent homes!

We have thanks to give. Each day gives us the opportunity to say a big thanks for your support.
Pat & Ellen from Defiance--a big batch of mailing labels for the computer
Kathy H/OrdinaryDiva from NY--a nice note, ointment for kitty eyes. The following were asked for by a starving, skin and bones, Sevaun!  2 big bags of kitty snackers and 2 tubs of Temptation snackers. They will of course, get their yummies today!

All the other items are from Joe and Warped---awesome pieces! Plus, we have a minimum of 16 consolation prizes and this time we will show you what they are because they are really very nice! The raffle tickets can begin tomorrow, Weds. This ends 10 am on Saturday. BOXES that night will be at 5:30 pm and the Raffle will be held at 6:00. Fun times ahead. The purpose of this particular raffle?  This is the time of year we need to check and replace and restock much of our meds and test kits. This is no small matter and a must.

Ada Jane is doing pretty good! Her appetite has really picked up this week which is so nice to see. CathyKay's kittens are growing and will be out some today to start exploring a little bit. They've had their first vaccination already. Luige is sporting some mighty big feet and he likes to get into the middle of some mighty big play action! Alma was playing with a crackly leaf that came in the door yesterday--was so nice to see her playing like that.

We have several families looking at cats for adoptions. More later as details are worked out. Bella is still going outside to visit her doggie friends. She loves to sink down in the middle of the big red poof out there.  Pania loves her routines. Her breakfast must be given on the right side of the bench, on top of the rug! Love this about her. And Ming has his certain spot too for breakfast. Zelda just climbed the hemp wrapped pole to the ceiling---yes, she does exercise!

Watch out for Halloween! Sounds like we have a very strange visitor coming sometime around Halloween time. I also heard Sevaun saying she was going to pass out sardines to the Covies. They can't wait! I've heard from Tim who adopted Teva and Purrzer--sounds like all is very good and happy. Both cats are happy! Just what we wish for each of these cats!

Widdletigger--2 bags of Precious kittylitter, 40 lbs.
Donna H from PA--donation for Gusti and Trucker's medical bills

A giant thanks to Michlyn who was here for a two day visit. She was gracious to take on a couple Flash Sales, one even at 2:00 a.m. We went thru alot of inventory--and that is wonderful.

Gusti's "uneye" looks wonderful--we apply warm compresses daily and then put on ointment in an effort to keep the sutures soft until their removal. Trucker is also doing great. It does appear that the majority of his incision area is up off the floor. That is a good thing! Dr. Darcy says---let him go and play!  We still keep an eye on him constantly though and check that site. He still goes in his pen a few times a day for a nap. I tell him to take it easy, he just runs! Him and Gusti have a good friendship.

Mr. G is doing good.  Every day we leave the door open, in the morning, for the cats to go back and forth from the Main Area to the Thumper's Room. We can do this since the population is low back there. This morning, Mr. G came clear up to the Welcome Room office. He's a bit unsure of all the hubbub the kittens create. But, he's getting braver.

We took in a new kitten. She's a beautiful long hair calico girl. She arrived on Thursday. This little sweetie is just 8 weeks old and is much underweight from severe diarrhea and extreme overload of fleas. Fleas are gone now and we're making headway on the diarrhea. Her appetite picked up yesterday! Took 3 full baths to get clear water on her (because of the fleas). Her poor bottom area is very sore with much sloughing away of tissue.  Once the diarrhea is under full control, this should start healing.

We have names for CathyKay's kittens!  Finally!  It's taken me way too long, but they resemble each other so much that I wanted names that I could remember.  I think I have it! And there's a trick to each name to help you remember.
Intor  --  bl/wh  Right foot, Inside toe/Outside toes are black.  (name--IN,  TO for Out, R for rt foot)
Tinia  --  bl/wh  tiny white stripe on chin  (name-- Ti for Tiny)
Bounty  --  bla/wh  big white stripe on chin  (name--B for big)
Tenacity  --  black tiger/wh    (name--T for Tiger
Got it?  It'll be easy--you can remember their names now!

Missy Maloo has now gained 8 ounces since she has arrived--she's working up!  Callie is just not too keen on the other cats, so for her to have a more restful recovery from her spay, she is spending some time in Kitty City. She enjoys people, but the cats....not so much.

You might have noticed that little Columbus has a new friend. Ichobod is here now at the Rescue Center. He's outgrown his foster mama, Peggy.  That boy is one ornery little fella--he's here, there and everywhere! He and Columbus have so much fun together!

Our need was great.  Our need was heard.  Our need was met.  We were drastically low on can food. With great pleasure, I can now open the doors and see the shelves are full.  My big gratitude to you. In the middle of our need, there was YOU.  Thank you.

Have a wonderful, happy Sunday. I love our sign that says: This Rescue Center is a place of JOY! Please....only bring peace, friendship and a good heart within our Rescue Center.

Thursday, October 16

Yesterday is done! Today is now the first full day of recovery for Gusti and Trucker. I'm so grateful  that their surgeries went so well.  Trucker was first. It was decided to do his right leg first. The reason is this leg had the thinnest skin and the worry of his leg developing sores was high. He has a fairly long incision, but this boy is doing awesome. He woke up smoothly and has been raring to go since he came home. He and Gusti spent the night together in Dodger's Pen. He's yowling--he interchanges it between CHICKEN NEEDED to I WANT OUT! His incision is a bit higher than his point of contact on the floor, which is good. This means he will be able to, within reason, be out on the floor.  Now, his "within reason" may be entirely different than what I think! We will have to compromise!

Gusti is doing wonderful too. She was a bit of an ornery girl at the vet's office. She didn't want on the table, didn't want to be poked, didn't want any of the vet world! All she wanted was to be with Trucker. And play.  She is a doll. No surprises removing her bad eye--she did just fine! She and Trucker rode up and back together in the same crate. She is already down on the floor playing her little heart out--I think she completely forgot that she had surgery yesterday!

We had a neat thing happen this week. About 5 days ago, we had a gorgeous gold tiger cat come to the Rescue Center. He was found by the daughter of a volunteer. Unlike most cats that come in, he looked great and was neutered! Here's the great news---he was claimed! Yes, he has a wonderful family that was so so happy to see him and get him back. They brought pictures and videos to show it was indeed the same cat. And before they even saw him, I could hear him meowing and meowing in the next room--he heard them! Out of thousands of cats that have come our way, this is only one of 3 cats that have been claimed! So happy for him and his family.

We had BOXES last night---lots and BOXES!  It was fun and I so so appreciate every single gift that was given!

Please, please....check your cats and dogs for fleas. Fleas cause skin irritation, skin infection and can cause anemia which can cause death.  This is not a fun way to die. I have just seen a kitten with over probably 400-500 fleas on it.This little kitten weighs less than 1 1/2 lbs.  This body size can not fight off a flea infestation. Severe anemia is a sad, hard way to die. Please...one flea is too many.  Fleas can be prevented and they are a whole lot easier to prevent than to work with an infestation.

Okay--line up, all you ornery whippersnappers!  I think that would probably be 2/3's of the kittens and a few adults too! Wow--what is going on this week. Super high energy level, getting into everything and then running like they don't know anything about it. They wear me out just watching them!  (don't tell them but this is just how I like them, and cuddly, which they are!!) They must all be wanting to be a part of The Great Race (song by Larissa!).

Today we start taking things down for the winter. All the rock garden "pretties"  will be stored. Morning Glories will be pulled today. Windchimes will be stored away till spring. Our last load of hay for the winter will arrive today. Leaves are being raked often and put on the burn pile. The beds will be made special for the Barnies so they are toasty warm this winter. Lots to do and it all takes time. We seem to be doing this earlier this year.

Kitties are crazy! Cats are playing wildly. It must be the cooler weather, perhaps. And then they crash--napping piles of furriness all clumped together.  What a way to spend the day!

Tomorrow is the big day for Trucker and Gusti. I have heard so many very kind thoughts about these two kittens. And I have also heard much worry too. You know, it's always a worry when we do surgery. For myself, I pray for a peace about these procedures. Then I try to leave it there. But I'm human, and an  A plus worrier! But I also know that they are being watched over. I will keep in touch with the mods and they will post updates for you all. And I will give each a big extra kiss from you all. I won't even "go there" as to the necessity of these two surgeries. We've gone over that already and know that it's the right thing to do. And for today, they will have all the chicken they want!

Missy Maloo is here in the main area, just strolling around this morning. She is more relaxed each day. Still haven't seen her play yet with another kitten, but I think that time is coming. She has only gained 3 ounces while here, so we are working on that. Alma enjoyed much holding this morning. Something seemed to have spooked her today, but she relaxed and enjoyed the pettings. Joyful is so sweet--she is now meowing often during the day--it's her signal--she wants a snacker or chicken! Love her! Her stay in Kitty Kastle was so very good for her---thanks PaintedDaisy!

We have thanks to give. This Rescue Center is so grateful for the support given to us.

We took in two new cats recently. A beautiful calico cat arrived from volunteer Mary H from Arch. She's been caring for her for a few weeks. Since Dr. Darcy will be here this coming weekend, it was time to bring her. Her name is Callie (a Name a Cat name). She's a sweetie and loves to be petted. A beautiful calico girl.

The second cat is Mr. G.  He arrived here this weekend, brought by his past owner. Mr. G could no longer stay in his home due to severe allergies of his human. But, he's doing great and seems to be happy. Mr. G is already neutered, is 10 years old and is just ounces away from being 20 pounds. He is a very big boy. Mr. G loves to be petted and he loves to be talked to. What a handsome boy--orange tiger.

We have several cats on hold. Remember, nothing is ever definite until they actually leave! These cats are: Mathias, Nobbin, Veora, TAB, Daisy (yes, our sweet Daisy!!) and possibly Jambrew too. We also have a few other cats that are in the discussion stage!

Jackson is right now flipping a spiral toy up in the air and is catching it. Such a joy to watch! Moose is being Moose--forever messing up my keyboard! Penelope is playing--she has certainly discovered the fun of toys. Jarvis--he's just a play machine! Such a love but is so into all the toys! I saw Lucy Rae and Huck napping together this morning. Cutie is doing good--her weight is good and she's so enjoying the kittens. Bella continues to go in/out ten times a day! She comes in, wants her baby food, then goes back out again!

We are adding a new piece to our ceiling artwork today. It's a heart that says Where Life Begins and Love Never Ends! Love that saying.

Sunday, October 12

Happy Sunday! It's hard to believe that it's mid October already. The leaves here are beautiful, the temps are definitely cooler and the daylight is shorter.

We had 3 adoptions yesterday! Bunny, our adult, was adopted by a friend and moderator, Gem/Edna. I've seen pics already that she's sent and looks like things are already working out. I'm always extra happy when we find a home for an adult! We also had Aubie and Hillsborough go to their new home together. They have 2 young boys that are so excited! Love these adoptions!

Little Jambrew is on my desk, along with Moose and Jemima. Life is quiet and peaceful, until one wakes up and starts the action going again! You can tell the air is cooler--the cats snuggle up more for nap time. Trucker is right now taking a little nap in Dodger's Pen.  This will be the pen he will occupy after his surgery, until he can be down on the floor again. I will have that wonderful blue water pad for him ready on Weds. He and Gusti will travel together to the vet's that day.

CathyKay and her kits are doing wonderful. They are enjoying the room in Cat's Corner room. The babies are more sturdy on their feet now. And oh.....their blues eyes...so pretty.

Missy Maloo has been coming up to the Main Area more and more. She's becoming braver. I can see in her eyes that she is becoming happier. I'm waiting for the day when I see her start interacting with another kitten--that will be nice to see.

We have some thanks to give.
Timo H from Findland--donation to FFRC
Domingo F--donation to FFRC
PSW--donation to help with the Porchie Haven project
Timbrwolfpup/Kelli--bag of snack size Twizzlers, Kraft caramels and a box of CHeetos snack packs
Angelface/Linda C--a gorgeous "lapghan", cat on cat, black and white.  It's just simply amazing!
Anonymous Friend--24 large rolls of Sparkle paper towels
Kerswill--big bag of Purina One cat food, Easy Life hammock/scratcher
Anonymous Friend--memorial stones for Saide and Mudjie for Albert's Garden--special thanks. Sadie's stone says "Sadie, Our Special Inky" and Mudjie's stone says "Mudjie. Purrs and Sandpaper Kisses,"

Bella is like a revolving door. She's in and out and in and out. We made a sign "Bella is In" and "Bella is Out" so we can keep track of her. She sure doesn't seem to mind the coolness or the sprinkles. She just snugs right into her poof!

Jersey just climbed up the Kuranda Tower and went thru the window to be in the Kitty Kabana Room. Just 2 feet over is the doorway, but he prefers climbing! It's amazing---we can have a very quiet time, all is sleeping or playing quietly.  All that we need to do is rustle the plastic that the chicken is in, and presto---a bunch of cats emerge out of nowhere! Simply amazing.

Cita is growing. She loves to climb and easily makes her way up and down. I saw her carry a snacker the other night, way up high, just to eat it. Forest is everyone's friend. He loves to play and is nice to all the kittens. Vernon is growing. He's still a bit "snorkly" but seems to be getting over this. Right now, the general health of all the cats and kittens is good.

Surgery will be this coming Saturday, the 18th. Tentatively we have Lucy Rhea, Huck, Missy Maloo, Anne Shirley, Dashielle, Cita, Mathia, We also have some physicals to be given. On Monday we will be doing the weigh-in to check weights for surgery.

Thursday, October 9

Here a poof, there a poof, everywhere a poof! Yes, this morning at 10:00 on the cam we will have our next mini Flash Sale. We'll be showing the small poofs and big ones. The small ones are $30 and the big ones are $50--includes shipping. These poofs are like the ones Bella loves so much! Then this afternoon at 3:00 we will have another mini Flash Sale. This will be for some really nice trivets--would make nice Christmas presents/stocking stuffers!

Friday morning at 9:30 will be our last mini Flash Sale. Pat C , our Thursday volunteer has made quite a few of her wonderful handwarmers---all in such a variety of colors! These are $7 a pair. Think Christmas/winter!

Just want to say a big thank you for the support shown for this week's mini Flash Sales. The purpose is to help us with some bills that came up --there were 4 of them.
1-electrician's work to Porchie Haven
2-to fix our flooding problem--an extra downspout and a sump pump
3-to repair the wiring to the water pump
4-new door very much needed for front office

On the Flash Sales, we will be waiting until Friday noon to start packing things up. This will help us save on postage, if we can pack same orders to same persons! We will get things out as fast as possible.

Jemima is a lovebug. She has decided that life is good and fun. Lucy Ann is also becoming adventurous. She wanders all of the Rescue Center now. A very nice young cat. Emma Jo had a birthday this week--she received extra chicken, which she gobbled up! Thomas seems to be back on track--has a bounce to his step again. We sure do love this boy.

We have thanks to give for the BOXES and goodies we've received. Thank you so much.

Penelope has discovered the fun of playing! This girl has decided that there's lots of fun to be had. We moved CathyKat and her 4 kittens up to the Main Area to Cat's Corner Room. They seem quite content and the kittens are doing a bit of scurrying around. Names real soon!

We also have the 2 newer kittens--the grey/white and buff/white. Today is their first day on the floor in the back Thumper's Room. They are so very sweet. The little boy (buff/white) is now named Huck.  The little girl (grey tiger/white) is called Lucy Rhea.  These are both Name A Cat names. They are about 7 weeks old and full of fun. They will be in Main Area soon.

The cats and kittens are all on a pretty good health time right now. Every time we bring in a new cat, it brings the possibility of new virus's  being introduced. Thank goodness for vaccines! They are life savers.

Tuesday, October 7

If you ever want to see how little work you can get done, sit at a desk and have Aubie, Moose, Jarvis, Hillsborough and Abner all on the desk at one time. It's simply impossible---they rock and roll from one end to the next. Knocking my paper stacks over, stealing my pens, chewing on the printer, smacking each other's tails, licking my phone (oh, ick!!), and generally being a big nuisance.  Do I get work done?  Nope.  Do I love it?  You bet!

Want to help us have some fun? Shhhhhhh---this is a big secret.  November 14 is our friend's birthday--Hannnah S's special day. And she will be here! If you could, would you please send her a birthday card, put her name on the envelope and I'll tuck these away for her until 11/14. I'm told she doesn't get into the blog, so this will be a secret! I appreciate this so much. Hannah is a special girl to FFRC! Thanks!

FInally.......the right outside barn situation for Bear-Bear came available. It use to be a horse barn, now used for a variety of other things. It has a heated Tack Room, with a little cat door that goes into the barn hallway to the Tack Room!  It's a working barn, so people are there to love on him.  The barn cat that was there, recently passed away  (was quite elderly). We put the word out of what we were looking for, for Bear-Bear and I'm so grateful for this opportunity. Sounds like a happy place for this special boy!

Check out our Flickr site. Jenni has been very busy adding lots of new pics, many taken by Pat. I think you'll enjoy it!   www.flickr.com/photos/fofrescue/

Many thanks to you!
Gisa Z from Germany--donation to FFRC
Lynda S from MN--donation in memory of Paul
Judy and Phil-Sunday volunteers--colored/white copy paper,  fancy feast kitten, pottybags, appetizers and cat snackers

FFRC had no water yesterday for about 5 hours. That's always a big inconvenience. Laundry backs up, water bowls needed filled, dishes piled up, ducks/geese wanted their water/swim tubs--it's amazing how much water we use. June/painteddaisy had just brought in some gallons of water, so we made use of that for drinking, cleaning, etc. The well fix-it guy came and had to pull the pump. Turned out there were two places that the electric wires were not connecting.  All fixed now and water is pumping!

We are also having the inside heavy door to the purple Front Office replaced this week. It's coming apart and will no longer shut without a big big push. That has to be fixed before cold weather comes.

As you know, we had another two floods in the Front Office this past week when we had two torrential pours. Dion came to look things over. Maybe we finally have this figured out. We already knew that the office is about four inches lower than ground level. This is causing a severe backup of water at the lowest part by Dodger's Pen. So, another downspout will be added very soon, to drain out onto the driveway---that should help alot. But a sump pump will also be put into that low outside area. It will turn on automatically when the water accumulates and drain it into our sewer line. Hopefully this will be successful.  Those flooding incidents are no fun for us. It always surprises me though how it doesn't bother the cats--they splash right thru all the water!

Also this week, our electric guys from Gustwiller's will be here. They will run that line to Porchie's Haven so we will have a light and a source of electric for a little heat when absolutely needed this winter and a fan for the summer. I love walking over to this Porchie's Haven and peeking in to see how many are in there napping! They love those two little windows in there!

We are declaring this as a Flash Sale week for FFRC.  Don't be surprised if you see a few Flash sales a couple times a day! We want to move some of our inventory and we need to pay some bills (electric, taxes, water pump, new door, etc.). Yesterday we had two sales on the cam. They are SMALL sales, usually only doing ONE type of item at a time slot. Here is today's schedule!
11:00 am -- will show the 2-piece pillow cases that make great kittie covers/crate blankies, etc
3:00 pm -- will show the 2-piece blanket sets
6:00 pm -- will show the centipede toys and the spider toys
Thank you for understanding our need to do these sales. They truly help FFRC a lot!

Little Ichabod is doing wonderful. I saw him yesterday. He will be back with Peggy S on Thursday to visit and to receive a vaccination. I understand from Peggy that he is an ornery little tiny baby! Missy Maloo is wonderful. She has the sweetest face and is beginning to eat better. Cathy Kay's babies are getting so fuzzy--they can now stumble about a bit in their pen! We've been leaving her pen door open so mama can get out and stretch her legs and have a little me-time of her own! She's a great mama.

The Barnies are doing great. We'll be working on getting them all set up for winter too. We'll make sure they have a warm, dry place to hang out in for the coming winter. They are such a nice bunch of cats! The Covies are also doing great. We will keep them in the Cat's Cove as long as possible, before moving them for the winter to Kitty City.

If you ever have a question about anything that you're unsure of about FFRC, feel free to contact a mod or an admin or myself. We would rather be asked something than to have you wondering about it! Have a happy day! The cats are rooting for you!

Sunday, October 5

A year. A whole year has come and gone since Paul passed away. Paul is never far from my thoughts---so many many memories of him here at FFRC. I decided this past week, that I personally was going to celebrate his "being" and passing in happiness of knowing him and enjoying the memories. Isn't it amazing how so many of you connected with him, without ever having personally met him. He loved FFRC and all the cats here. His heart was big for animals. It's been a good few days thinking of all the funny things that he was a part of here at FFRC. And I also got his truck back two days ago---all fixed and running good.....finally. He would've been happy that we stuck with it and got it fixed. It was important to him that we have this truck for FFRC and the farmyard.

We have thanks to give! For me and FFRC, we are always grateful for your help.

Bella....what is she going to do come winter? Yesterday was so chilly and very windy. Yet, there she was at the dog's door, meowing very very loudly.....clearly stating she wanted OUT and out NOW.  What a girl. So, out she went. She went scooting as fast as she could for her pink big poof. She probably wanted to get it before Janie did, although they do share it frequently! I've even seen Camie join them on it.  And then Camvie waits for the dogs to come in so she can run with them to their room and nap with them there! Some great friendships going on there!

A big thanks to Chatterchopz--a chatter. Happy Birthday! Instead of gifts, she has asked her friends to help FFRC. How so very kind of you!

Cayden is doing wonderful. His little shortened leg doesn't bother him in the least bit. He runs like the wind. Jersey and Felicity always makes me smile in the mornings--they have their spots where they like their breakfast. I love seeing cats with their personalities! Milo is a happy boy and enjoys playing with the other cats.

We sure love our group of cats that have CH. Well, yes, we love them all! We've had some interest in people contacting FFRC about cats and kittens with CH. It's nice that people want to learn. We've even have had visitors that come just to get to know them better. They all have their own unique qualities about themselves in regard to CH. And so because of this, it would take a unique home to give them. We are happy to talk to people about the possibility of adopting. One of the things we would go over is how such a cat affects a home and the safety issues are also very important.

Yes, we are preparing for winter already outside. Just a bit of news on the farmyard. It's important for us to judge how much hay, straw, bedding, grain and bird seed we need to get us to April. The reason is sometimes, depending on the weather, it's very difficult to get supplies out on the farmyard.

Annette has been officially adopted.  Not sure if you were aware of it or not, but Annette has been visiting a home that is very quiet---just what she needed. Her foster mama decided that Annette was happy right where she is! The busy-iness of the rescue center was a bit overwhelming to her. She is a much happier girl! We also have Bunny on hold--she will be leaving late afternoon next Saturday.

Trucker is right at this moment, inside the cabinet in Thumper's Room, helping Jimmy change a faucet. He's rolling, chewing and basically being a pest!  Just how we like him! Sure love this little kitty! Nobbin had fun yesterday morning--he got a hold of a roll of paper towels and chewed it up--what fun he had. He is also on hold but will be with us for a few more weeks yet.

Cutie has found "her thing" again--bathing and grooming the kitties. This morning, inside the orange box, she had 5 little ones with her--all receiving a bath. Happy Cute, happy babies! Joey is doing wonderful. His confidence is good, he loves to be petted now and is so much more relaxed. It's a joy to see and watch him. Coralie is also doing great. Her little stumpies are looking good, as is Bella's. We keep track of these often for them.

Our new little girl, Missy Maloo is slowly coming around. She loves to be held but is a bit shy and unsure of herself. I would love to know her past--there's something behind those big gold eyes of hers that has a story. We've been spending a lot of time holding and petting her.

October 3, Friday

I have come to realize again, that our FFRCNation is a great group of people. It's amazing to me....every day I see compassion, friendship, helpfulness, laughter, sharing of family and cat stories, I see goodness everywhere I look and that sure can fill a heart with happiness.  I thank you all for being a part of FFRC.

The kittens are ornery! The cats are too! It's a cooler day and the orneriness is coming out of all of them! I love to watch them play--they get so wound up and then they crash into a nice pile of sleepy cats!

We have many thank yous to give--some from BOXES, some from PayPal. I am grateful.

Let's have BOXES this evening at 5:30 pm instead of 6:00. That would be a good thing!

We took in a new kitten two days ago. She is a young  1/2 Persian female. She is beautiful--brown tiger. It appears that she's been shaved sometime in her past--her back and sides are much shorter than the rest of her. I wonder what happened to her? She was just a found cat and was at a person's house for a few days. This person has been back to visit her. Her name is Missy Maloo, a Name A Cat name.  She's quite beautiful.

We also took in another kitten--a baby. A little black kitten. He's been tested and is also negative. He just appeared out of no where at a lady's home, right before the big rain last night. He's about 4 weeks old. Because he is negative as is CathyKay, we will see if this new kitten can become part of the group. His name is now known as Ichabod, a Name A Cat name.  Welcome, little fella.

I've had a couple people asking about Slick. I'd happy to say he is doing awesome. It took him most of a week to get back to snuff after his dental--but he's now doing great. Loves to be petted, enjoys sleeping on the bed, a real sweet friend. Zertyle too is good!

We have surgery dates!

Little Gusti and Trucker both have dates now and they're going together. The date is October 15th. Gusti will be glad not having that awful eye draining. It's a constant source of cleaning it and she has absolutely no vision in it. It's breeding ground for bacteria and infection, so this will be a good thing for her.

On Trucker, we have been waiting until he gets bigger, which he has been doing. I've been asked by several---are you sure this is absolutely necessary to remove his legs.  This is how I try to explain it. Each day that goes by, he loses even more muscle in those rear legs. We need some muscle left for him to have a nice stump pad to move about on. That's important. We also need skin. His skin is becoming very thin on those back legs--from him pulling them around. Not a good thing, as we also need skin to make those stump pads. The area that is rubbing is about the area that the skin will be pulled from. There's also a third reason---as he continues to grow, so do those legs and because they are absolutely stiff, they appear to be so so long. Yesterday, both back legs were past his ears as he was moving about. The feet are also starting to curl backwards which is causing another place to rub. So....we have been playing a time game with him--waiting long enough to grow more but not so long as to make the surgeries even more difficult.

Have a great day. Whatever you do, do it with all your heart!

October 1 Weds.

Hank---a cat of character. A cat that loved everyone. As many of you know, we've been searching and searching for him for days. The last that I knew for sure I saw him was Thursday morning---I stopped by his chair that he was lounging in, to give him a head rub.  Hank was an extra special cat. But, truly, they all are. While I will miss him terribly, I'm so glad to finally know that he is not suffering "out there" all alone. I was also worried that he might be off the property and we not able to find him.  I'm at peace knowing that he's not hurt now and that he was indeed home when he passed. That not knowing where he was is so very hard.  Hank was found last night, by Pat and Ellen who have been helping us search. He was across the road, on our property, where he often went to watch the river and the chipmunks. We are not positive what was his cause of death, but that doesn't matter now. He's at peace and I know beyond a doubt, he knew he was extra special. A big heartfelt thanks to all involved in helping us to find him. Thank you all for caring about our Hank, often called Hankster Pankster.

We've been busy this week making sure treatments are all up to date. We've also spent time cleaning ears, brushing and clipping nails. Have to keep these cats and kitties looking pretty!

We had three adoptions on Sunday! All 3 of these wonderful cats went together to their new home in Iowa. They are Mahogany, Kerri Kat and Mich. What was really nice is, they got to spend the night in Kitty Kastle with their new mama Saturday night. So they already had a head start on getting to know her! They've arrived home safely and have been exploring.

Just as an FYI---I do have 2 major dentist appts today and Thursday. (I'll admit--I'm a wimp when it comes to the dentist). My appt. is late this afternoon---if I can talk decently, we will have BOXES this evening. If not, then on Thursday, depending on that appt. too. Sorry for the confusion!

Can you guess the 3 orneriest kittens here? Without a doubt, it is Vernon, Caleb and Gusti. Oh my goodness, these three can rock and roll! There's about 15 other kittens though that are also high speed crazy babies! They are such fun to watch. Bunny and Lucy Ann are doing great. Both are now in the Main Area and are investigating everywhere.

Mama cat CathyKay is just a happy girl! She loves her kitties and gives them great care. She is good at coming out of her pen and walking about. Her kitties are very good size. Their eyes are wide open, they are stumbling around now and sure can meow! They are 2 1/2 weeks old now.

W are putting together the Porchies Haven. I'm so very glad the decision was made to go with a regular shed--complete with 2 windows, people door and a cat door. It's an 8 x 10 and big enough to put many beds in there. We've put 2 layers of sealer on the inside so we can clean it easily. The Porchies have already started going in and out. A few beds are now in place and hopefully before the end of this day, the whole Haven will be ready for them. They will be safe from all kinds of weather. They will still of course have their sunporch too--it'll be their decision where they want to be.

Take care and have a happy day. Please....help us with the cat overpopulation problem. It's not too late to take a cat or kitten in yet this fall for a spay/neuter. Remember--those spring kittens can have kittens themselves in the late fall. Treasure your pet and give them hugs.
