Thursday, October 29

Today's question is...how many cats can get into the play pool?! The high was 5, but then when the Nano Creature toys were added, it went up to 8--squishy kitties, but having fun!

We had BOXES last night---big time thanks to you!
Pam/zoolove--bag of Neutro kitten dry food, 3 big containers of kitty snackers, case of Fancy Feast, case of Neutro adult, 3 beautiful rugs--royal blue, pink and a round purple one, bag of Precious cat litter.
Joco/Jo Ann--10 cases of Sheba, Perfect Portion size
Anonymous Friend---box chock full of potty bags!
Sandra E/straycatlady--a beautiful sign that says: Eldoras Little House, Forever protected by Sheriff Putter, with Putter's picture in the middle.  It's beautiful and made mom smile! We'll hang it today!
LJ--wow, 100 more Doo Bee Doo Bee Trucker Trail Santa Poos!!  Wait for them---you'll see them in a flash sale soon!
Caren L--3 tubs kitty snackers--1 has been placed in the FireHouse already!
Justme/Kathy--our mod--a Brother C5 600i sewing machine---you'll see this in a raffle soon!
Dave S--2 big bags Purina One, adult (the kitties opened his box up early!)
Jatcat--2 kitty beds for the Firecats

She has a name! Our little white short haired kitty is now named Marta (a Name a Cat name). She is 6 weeks old and is pronounced flea free. And promised to never have a flea on her again. Yesterday she wanted to be out of her quarantine pen. She's had her initial vaccines so she was moved to the back Thumper's Room to play with the 4 kittens there. She's all about playtime and is running and enjoying her new friends!

We now know names of kitties on hold. They are: Karma and Morgan David (will go together and they are very good friends!), Marlow and Fawn (seperately).

We also have the surgery list done.
Boys: Paden and Jester
Girls:  Lilly Rose, Elsie (?), Karma, Acadia, Fatima, Purrdelurps
We will also add a few to the list, from our volunteers who know of cats that need their "fixins" done! We will also have some physicals to do: Keesha, Pitter, Patter, Charleston, Joyful, Lucy Ann, Merri, Neemu, Paddy Cake, Paddy Purr, Ponia, Telli and Walter

If you have time, we would sure appreciate your vote. You can vote once daily! Thank you! http://eaglerarelife.com/content/jacci-moss

Keesha is doing great. She's very relaxed and has fit right back in. Pitter and Patter are making their way slowly, very slowly into the Main Area. They love their room, Cat's Corner and are still hesitant to leave for very long. That's ok---we have patience! There's no hurry. They love to be petted!

Sea Turtle is doing great. She has a wonderful routine and is looking very good. Right now, Lilly Rose is laying on top of Froggy. Yesterday, I saw Froggy and Lewes laying/napping together. Froggy woke up and started playing with Lewes' ears--very sweet to watch. Joey and Felicity especially love their morning snackers. Every morning, after the floor has been swept and mopped and is dried, Lisa goes around and passes out snackers. The cats absolutely know and wait for this--they love it.

Cecil is just so funny. When he takes a toy and runs with it in his mouth, he always makes us laugh. You can tell he's purely happy to be doing this! Trucker has been taking the Ming Strings, getting it in his mouth and then walking as far as he can, let's go and watches it zing back in place and then does it again! Paden is doing better and better. He came in as a worried little boy about life in general. But he's getting more confidence and is enjoying being held more.

Don't worry---if you hear what sounds like something clunking on glass----it's just Tabitha. She loves to climb up, grab the top of the door (which we leave open) and spend time in June's Room. She's got the jump down-pat and is a pro (glass is safe). I think she enjoys her alone-time. Jessie has been using her paper towel nest lately!

Weds., October 28

How many cats can get in a box? Counting right now, there are 9 kitties in the box! And what fun they can create!

Tia, Tio and Trucker are here on my desk with me and Froggy is in his cushie bed by my feet. Asha is in her usual spot, right behind me on the Kuranda Tower. Ellie is playing with my shoes. Cyrus is attacking the "talking toy". Snookie is nuzzling that wonderful purple toy she loves so much. And Walter is here sitting quietly watching me. Life is good.

Yesterday was a bit of a discouraging day. We took in a sweet kitten that was literally covered in fleas. We also know that the littermates passed away---probably from flea infestation. These are needless deaths. Pets should not have to die from an overload of fleas. Please.......check your pets. If you see fleas, do something about it. The pets cannot get rid of them by themselves. For every 5 fleas seen on a pet, there are 100 in the environment. More info on this survivor kitten soon.

I rarely "put this out there" when sad things happen, but today I will.  Please, if you see a cat or dog outside being neglected, abused or no proper shelter, please speak up. Maybe ask the owner---maybe they could use some help in making a shelter. We had a cat come in yesterday that died unnecessarily from neglect. Winter is coming and the cold/wet/snow is on it's way. The outside pets need help by way of good food, fresh daily water and shelter from the cold, wind and wet.

And then, one more subject. If you are elderly, please please make provisions for your pets. Don't wait until the last minute. We had a situation here yesterday where 2 cats were found outside. We now know more of the story---family didn't want to care for them after placing a parent in an assisted care facility, so these older cats were put outdoors and the door locked--they were all alone, no food and totally lost outside. We have them now (by wonderful people who took it upon themselves to bring them here) and one way or another, we will provide for them. They appear to be a bit distraught but I'm sure today will settle in.

So......there are lessons here to learn.  Please, if you are considering a pet, but cannot provide vet care, the solution is simple........DO NOT TAKE ON THIS PET. Neglect of a pet is very hard and sad, especially for the pet who may have no choice in the matter.  If your pet has fleas, help them. They need help getting rid of them and then do prevention so there would not be an infestation to worry about. And please think ahead for what you want for your pet, should you become unable to care for them or in the event of your death.....what will happen to your pet? Unfortunately, do not always assume your family will do the right thing.

We need some happy thoughts. We had an adoption on Monday. Little Dutchy went to a new home. Her owner has lots of time to spend with her and the excitement was high! I'm sure this will be a grand home for Dutchy.

We also have a few kittens on hold---more later as details are firmed up, but should happen soon after surgery day. Our next surgery day is this coming Saturday. This won't be a heavy duty day. We have approximately 11-12 FFRC spays/neuters. We also have a few add ons. Some of our volunteers will be bringing in some cats that are in need of spays/neuters (these are strays and they have decided to help them!). There's also the possibility of Lily Rose having her eye removal this Saturday. Plus, we have physicals to do. Two of my housecats are in need of a little "look over" also. So, all in all, will keep us busy on Saturday!

As fall arrives and upcoming holidays also arrive, it can be a difficult time of year for so many people. As one 'nation', maybe we could have your help. We are aware of people who could benefit by receiving  uplifting, encouraging cards---this would give them a smile or make them feel they've received a hug. If you would like to participate, send a card for to FFRC, with the word FRIEND on the envelope. That will designate that this is a "friendly card" to be passed on to an FFRC person in need of some emotional/friendship support. You can sign it with your chat name if you'd like, or simply "A friend of FFRC". FFRC will forward these to people that we know would so enjoy it. Thank you.

The FireHouse is a big success. Today when I fed the Porchies and FireCats their breakfast, there were 4 FireCats in their new house sleeping and staying dry from the rain! The Porchies are also using their Porchie Haven. This past week we have been in the process of getting the heated water bowls ready for the different buildings. Also last night, Steve and I purchased the 2 heaters for The House that Jonah Built. I believe Dion will be here today to put the 2 shelves up for these heaters. He was also here yesterday and we now have electricity in the Porchie Haven, so their heater is all ready. Slowly but surely, we will have all ready for the upcoming winter weather!

There are now 7 cats in the box and my desk top has also changed! Paddy Cake is now staring at me from my desk. The kittens got down and decided it was playtime! Emmitt is climbing all over the boxes here in the office. Rios is strutting in, looking for some friends to play with. Solee is napping beside the desk and Magic is waiting for us to give him another of his favorite balls to play with. And Snookie....what a sweetie. She is still nuzzling her favorite purple toy!

Sunday, October 25

The FireHouse is here and is being used! It is ready to go and already in use. We put in a Kuranda Tower, a comfy chair, 3 catbarn houses. The two in/out doors were sawed out right away--just enough to let them in and not too much wind. Cushies/blankies and food are in too, along with a carpet piece and rugs. So far, it's been great--the FireCats found it right away. We are still feeding at their regular feeding spot and inside the FireHouse too.  It's very close to the parking lot, behind the fence so it's easily accessible, even in bad weather. Even shy Blake was in it!

Tio and Tia are doing wonderful. Tia is finally catching up with her brother, both in size and energy. Sherlock and brother Mycroft are 2 awesome kittens--their energy level is high and so much fun. Trucker too is doing good. We are having him sleep back in the Thumper's Room, in his pool again. It's nice and quiet--good for a deep sleep for this boy at night. Plus we needed to have Cat's Corner Room available again for Pitter and Patter.

Pitter and Patter have been in Cat's Corner Room now for 2 days. They really are settling in and so love attention. All it takes is to sweet talk to them and they roll over in anticipation of being petted and belly rubs! Tody we opened the door to this room. I imagine it'll take a day or so for them to come on out.

We have thanks to give! Know that you are very appreciated.

Donnajb--12 lysol wipes, big box of TP (a very important item!!)
PintedDaisy/June--gift cards and a donation to FFRC---will be used for those items easier to get in Defiance.
Cavallo's Critter Care---donation to FFRC
Candice B from SC--donation to FFRC
Kelly L--donation to FFRC
Douglas E--donation to FFRC

I would like to extend a very heartfelt thank to you all.  This truly has to be the most wonderful, combined group of compassionate, caring people anywhere. Thank you for your support of FFRC.

Purrdelurps and her girls are doing great. Scooper, Marja, Jun and Joop and playing, ornery, purring babies! Purrdelurps is a bit protective of them, so we will hold off bringing them up to the front area yet. THeir tummies are round and they look so happy.

Jester is also doing good. He just fit in like he's always been here. Fatima too---both of these kittens made friends very quickly. Lewes leg is 100% healed and doing great---no limp. He's very fast! Elsie and Lily Rose are getting closer to the weight for us then to get them scheduled for their eye surgeries.

Just an FYI---yes, we now have my mom moved into the Little House (formally known as Kitty Kastle). Her own furniture and belongings are now in place. We had a nice time moving yesterday and all went smooth. Lots of family there to help. I spent quite a bit of time last night with her showing her the cabinets, drawers, etc. for her to know where her things are. She seemed relaxed and happy last night. Steve and I will stick around extra close these next few days to be sure she is comfortable and settled.

Fun day tomorrow! We will have a Halloween Flash Sale sometime during the morning and again in the afternoon. We have Halloween Surprise Bags to offer.  6 in morning and 6 in afternoon. All are filled with tons of "stuff"--FFRC, cat, personal & Halloween items. They will be offered for $25 each, but they have a value of over $50 each! We will also at the same times, do the LJ's doobedooTruckerTrailSantaPootoys! But we shall call them the Santa Poo toys for short! They will also be half in the morning and half in afternoon.  These toys are $5.  We will let you know as soon as we can as to the times.

Folks, I would like to say---If I ever miss something, please don't hesitate to email me and let me know. Or if I've made an error or whatever. If it's not right, I am more than happy to correct things!

Wanted to give you an update on Preakness. She is doing wonderful. What a great home she has. Snoopybaby and her husband love her. Preak is fitting in beautifully!

Jester is doing great. He's up in the Main Area now and has made lots of friends. Such an easy going boy. Pitter and Patter are doing much better. They are soooo handsome! They are now out and about in the back Thumper's Room and becoming more relaxed. They are starting to come towards us now for loving and petting when we go in the room. Maybe won't be long until they're ready to come to the Main Area!

The tiger/white mama and her four girl kitties are also doing good. They are beginning to play! We have names!
Purrdelurps--mama, pronounced purr-dl-erps  (like turtle but with a P-erps)
Scooper--female, all brown tiger
Marja--ASH brown tiger
Jun--tiger/white, all white front legs, pronounced zhoon
Joop--tiger/white, white & tiger front legs, with toe tiger splotch

We also have a name for the cute baby longhair all black kitten. All fleas are gone and he's feeling so much better. It's wonderful what antibiotics can do! His name is FlufferNutter.

Four out of five of these names are from our Name A Cat names. FlufferNutter will probably join the litter in the back Thumper's Room today or tomorrow. He needs a friend to cuddle up with.

Today should be the day that the FireHouse arrives. A part came in late, so it delayed the arrival of the FireCats winter shelter. We're excited to get it in place. We will put the barncat houses in it, a big rug, comfy beds and a Kuranda Tower. There are also 2 windows in this shed so the light can come in! And we'll be putting those 2 cat doors in it too!

Take care and have a wonderful day. Each day is a special day to appreciate life!

I'd sure appreciate your vote and time!

The FireHouse is due to be here today or tomorrow and we're ready for it. This is the new shed coming for the FireCats. There's so many of them--they've just appeared for the most part this summer. We have them all neutered/spayed (with the exception of possibly one). We try our best to get flea prevention on them each monthly. They all look good, healthy and certainly seem happy. But, cold is brewing and we need to be responsible and give them shelter. This house/haven, unlike the Covies and Porchies, will have two cat doors. These cats are more skittish and need that second escape route, if they feel the need.

The latest with Tazer and Brigetta who were adopted a few days ago is good! They are sharing food bowls, sunning together in the window and sleeping on the same couch! That's what I've been wanting to hear! I also know that Merit and Kazumi are happy in their homes. This is what it's all about---finding those wonderful, loving homes and neutering/spaying.

Little Byrne is napping on my desk. Sergei is laying on the back of my desk, making me sit on the edge. Gustave is busy playing with a ball, tossing it up in the air and then chasing it. Lucy Ann is sleepily watching the kittens playing on the floor. Dutchy and Tara are curled up together napping. Jinkee is trying to retrieve a lost snacker under the desk. Lewes is sitting there watching Jinkee, probably with plans of taking that treat away. Rios is chasing a feather on the floor that is blowing about. Life is good. Health-wise we are sitting good here, for which I'm very grateful for. Oops, yes, Lewes got the treat. Okay, now will need to toss out some snackers from my secret stash!

We took in a new kitten on Sunday. He's about 14 weeks old, a white kitten with a tiger tail & 2 tiger ears--very cute. His name is Jester (a Name a Cat name). He was turned in by a person who was carrying Jester in a most uncomfortable way. The important thing though is that he brought Jester in. He is already running about in the back Thumper's Room.

We also had 2 returns. Two beautiful black/white boys, long hair. They were adopted as kittens and are now 6 years old. The family was sad (they truly did not want to return them) and the cats have been sad. But, time will help. Their names are Pitter and Patter. Pitter has a black nose. Patter has half a black nose and a black spot on the side of his nose. Truly, beautiful cats. Today their pen door was opened and both are now down on the floor of the back Thumper's Room. Lots of love and some time will help their hearts.

And a mama and 4 babies arrived yesterday morning. A very good friend, Richard, rescued this cat. She was placed out of her house, obviously pregnant. Richard took her in. I'm glad he did, as she had her kittens that very night. Four little girls. One brown tiger, one ASH brown tiger, two tiger/whites. All sweet. They are now 5 weeks old and half nursing, half eating on their own. They all have been tested and vaccinated. Won't be long until they too are on the floor to play and run in the back Thumper's Room.

Remember, we had closed down the back Thumper's Room?  Well, it lasted a week! Longer than I thought we'd be able to do!

Friday, October 16

What happened to Derecho? Looks like he got a lot taller and much flatter--what happened?  Oh...wait... that's just the Derecho Pinata! Yes, compliments of FaithyMD--a Derecho look alike pinata.  It's been on the floor now for a few hours or has been hanging from a string. Either way, the kitties are enjoying it. Scratching, biting, climbing, rubbing---all is fair in seeing what can happen to it! Lots of fun. Right now, there's bonito flakes sprinkled all over it. Fun for the day. Hoot and Elsie are the biggest pinata destroyers!

We had an adoption yesterday. Little Hans went to his new home. He is his new mama and dad's first kitten! I do believe this will be a wonderful home and new family together.

We also had 2 adoptions the day before that. Brigetta and Tazer went to a new home together. I heard early this morning from the family and all is well. Two happy cats. And two happy owners!

Please help us with your votes! I'd sure appreciate that. The site is: http://eaglerarelife.com/content/jacci-moss

We had BOXES Weds. evening. So many thanks and gratitude!

We have been slowly, ever so slowly trying to get Trucker off of his meds. Looks like we can't quite do that as it does cause his looser stool. So....back on meds for him. He doesn't mind too much!

We took in a new kitten 3 days ago. She was found by herself, all alone except for fleas. And boy, did she have fleas--hundreds of them. Of course, they are gone now and we're working on her anemia. Isn't it amazing to realize that fleas can actually take enough blood from these creatures to kill them? So sad. It doesn't have to happen. Her name is Fatima (fa-tee-ma), a Name a Cat name after a special person. Won't be long until she's up in the Main Area---so sweet and cuddly and purr-y.

Yes, Karma was limping. That little rascal has a zooming high amount of energy. It's understandable how, as a wee tiny baby, she thought it was fine to chase a big big peacock. Well, her energy has caught up with her and she hurt her rear leg. Probably zigged instead of zagged. She's been on mostly pen-rest for 2 1/2 days (she's had rotating friends with her!). Today she is back on the floor and doing much better. We'll keep an eye on that rascal.

It's getting cooler. Matter of fact, it's down right cold this morning. And tomorrow we're suppose to have our first frost. On Tuesday, the new Firecat Haven should be delivered! Good timing too! We have been busy outside preparing for the wintertime. Windchimes are down and stored for spring. The beautiful morning glories are down and the seeds are waiting for spring already! Steve and I will  be stocking up on hay, grain, bedding, bird seed to get us to April---just in case the weather doesn't permit us to drive out to the barns. And we have to keep those birds fed, so says the cats! They love to watch them.

Charleston is a super love-bug. He turns to mush when you hold him and has a purr like a diesel truck. Acadia has a little more than just skin covering her bones--she has more than doubled her weight now. And she loves to be petted. Marlow is another sweetie-pie. He loves to be held like a baby and just take a nap--love this boy. Morgan David ranks right up there too as loving people and being super ornery. And one of his best friend, Fawn follows his footsteps. Love these cats. Now...if we can only get Vern and Hensley to be nicer to each other! We're working on that. Have a great day. I've got to go--Dutchy and Tara are "helping" me eat my slice of pumpkin pie (thanks SonJa!).

Sunday, October 11

What a beautiful weather week we've had! Fairly warm temps, sunshine, some blue sky.  The leaves are starting to turn so the trees are so pretty. The cats are a bit friskier---I think they too like fall weather!

It's been a busy week. We are preparing what was the Kitty Kastle, now called the Little House, for my mom. Her move in date is October 24. We've been busy at her home, packing things up for her. This will be a big change for her. It'll be very good to have her close.

We had 3 adoptions this week. Gentry left first and went to a volunteer's home! Word is he's doing really good. He should fit in there nicely. The next day, Valetta went to her new home. Her mom had also adopted from us a few months ago. The picture I saw showed both cats eating side by side. Rez also went to his new home. He had a family waiting to welcome him home!

We did have a 4th adoption, but she was returned.  A new friend to FFRC had been waiting a long time to take Tia home. She did go to this new home, but her new mama realized that she was yet not ready to do an adoption. You see, she had lost a beloved cat just months ago, and she didn't realize that she still wasn't ready to have another kitten. I assured her that we understand that.

All people who lose a cat or any pet, goes thru a process of grieving. And we all do it differently. Some people feel the need to adopt right away and that's ok. Some people need much more time to go thru this process, and that is ok too. For now, Tia is at Aunt Peggy's house along with Little Bit. Little Bit needed a friend to play with. Karma was too hyper for her. Tia is just right! The bottom line....we want people and the cats to be happy.

A big big thanks to Vern and Mich. They have helped with 2 days of Flash Sales this week. I am so so grateful. The first flash sale helped us pay for our big veterinary bill. The flash sale from yesterday, goes towards the Porchie Haven shed. The materials were already paid for to insulate it, but the shed itself was not covered yet. Now........the Porchies don't have to go get a job--they can just enjoy this nice, warm, dry place they have, for any weather! Thank you all for this wonderful combination of help, from the people who made the items that we sold, to Mich/Vern and to you, who were able to purchase the items. Surely do appreciate this!

We had BOXES on Thursday evening! Love BOX night and we want to send a lot of thanks!

Melissa M from OH--donation for FFRC
Pat B, our volunteer--a special thanks for doing more wiring--I so appreciate her help!

The new cat, siamese/torti mix is named Brigetta (pronounced Bri-GET-a). This is a Name A Cat name. She's doing good. Such a nice cat. No more fleas for her! She is in Cat's Corner Room but hasn't shown that she wants to join in the Main Area yet. She is already spayed.

We have also moved Froggy up to the Cat's Corner Room. We have no cats now in the back Thumper's Room and we didn't want him to be lonesome! So, Froggy and his pool are also in this room. He is out in the Main Area several times a day. But to take naps, he needs to go in his pool. He is very sensitive to sound and doesn't take sound naps just out on the floor. He's a happy boy!

Sea Turtle has decided that she likes to come up to the Main Area every morning. We always open that  door so the cats can cruise to the door that closes off the back Thumper's Room.  Up she comes! While she's not too keen on kitties getting too close to her, she's doing great! Sometimes you just have to give cats their own time frame to decide what they want.

There goes Magic, running into the Kabana Room, with his favorite ball in his mouth! Every morning he has to have that ball! Kiara is tucked inside the warm laundry that's on the table--her favorite thing to do. Joey received his snackers this morning. Solee also got her favorite treat--the babycat dry food. Fawn is curled up tight in a deep soft bed by the desk. Such a sweet girl. Towanda is climbing....again. She's the climbing-est cat ever! She thinks she could enter an Olympic game if they had her category! Do you know who is the best fly catcher we have? That would be Trucker! He can snag those things right out of the air! Of course, we always cheer for him!

I had to laugh at Lena this morning. She spent 45 minutes at my desk, behind the smaller screen, with just her ears and barely her eyes sticking above it, just staring at me. She finally sunk down and took a nap!

Joline, Joyful and Paddy Purr definitely are the Welcome Room cats. They spend the majority of their time there. It's just their way of enjoying themselves. The Barnies are all doing good. They really are a wonderful group of cats. They enjoy each other and their barn-home. Sometimes Snoopy sits up high near Maverick's stall and puts his paw in to touch him when Maverick drinks his water. They seem to enjoy this game.

Take care, all.  Fun feline facts:
A cat's nose is ridged with a unique pattern, just like a human fingerprint.
Cats have free-floating clavicle bones, which allows them to squeeze through very small spaces.
A cat usually has about 12 whiskers on each side of its face.
A cat has 230 bones in it's body. A human has 206.
The front claws on a cat retract.  The back claws do not.

Get to know your cat and enjoy that friendship!

Weds., October 7

The Porchie Haven is now done, except for getting the electricity wired to the building which will happen next week. The floor has 4 coats of paint on it so that will be easy to clean. The walls have that wonderful white fiber board---also easy cleaning. We now have a 6 level Kuranda Tower, a one level Kuranda Tower, table, 2 plastic beds and a few cushie beds. We will add more sleeping "things" as we can. The cat hole is cute out and some of the Porchies found it last night (I saw them sleeping in there early this morning!).

The Tower in the Playground continues to be a big hit. It's so sturdy---all of the cats combined can be on the top level and know that they are safe! It's wonderful and I think they like all the jungle-gym things to do, for fun!

We have several cats on hold. Gentry will be leaving this week. Tia is having her spay done today so she too will be leaving soon. Rez has a go home day on Friday. It won't be long until Valeta also will be leaving. We have several people interested in cats, but no applications filled out yet for these, so that means there's no definite holds on them.  No matter what, we require an adoption application. Vet references are checked out along with other references. This is a must.

We had BOXES on Monday night--we have thanks to give!
Stinkygreykitty/Joyce R from TX--note, cat nip cell phone for Trucker (!), ADOPT stickers, kitty coin/credit card bags, 2 knitted kitty hats that are very cute (for humans!)

Olga B from Netherlands--a donation to FFRC for World Animal Day.
Michael R--doantion to FFRC

Today at 1:30 Mich will have a Flash Sale for FFRC and another one later in the evening! Big thanks to Mich--these Flash Sales truly are a huge help to us. This Flash Sale will help to cover the veterinary bill from our last surgery day. Our next surgery day will be October 31. A big thanks to Joyce D for sending out pizza for us on that surgery day!

We took in a new cat a few days ago. She is a Siamese/slight Torti cat found by a volunteer who brought her to FFRC. Her name is Brigitta (pronounced Bri-get-a), which means exalted. She arrived dehydrated, anemic from flea infestation and lack of appetite. We are still struggling to get her appetite to pick up. Sometimes during the day she will eat good, sometimes she's just not interested. She's had her bath and looks so much better.

Acadia is picking up weight every day! It doesn't make me hurt now when I pick her up. You could feel her bones move, but not so much anymore! Sergei and Gustave are super fast--they spin right past their 4-legged friends! Cecil is finally growing---at least his legs are! The 4-litter of Bryne, Charity, Hans and Alphons always makes me smile. They find each other when it's nap time to cuddle up together!

Sunday, October 4

I just want to say a big thanks to our FFRC volunteers. It's been a week of very busy things for me and I have depended heavily on them. This coming week will also be very busy for me and again I know they will come thru. After all---we have the bestest volunteers in the world and they are pros at what they do! Love them all.

The first two coats of paint were put on the Porchie Haven floor yesterday. We anticipate two more coats needed. When this is completely dry, we can then move the fun things into their Haven--a Kuranda Tower, barn beds, cozy warm beds and another small piece of furniture. It's going to be very nice for them and I feel comfortable knowing they will be looked after for the winter.

I've had people ask how it works to keep the outside cats warm.  Here goes:

Covie Haven is also all set (minus the heater) for the winter. We will keep Cat's Cove open as long as we possibly can before we shut it up for the winter--hopefully sometime late November.  The House that Jonah Built and Covie Haven will then be their warm buildings (after we hang their heaters!). They too will be all set.

The Barnies will have heat lamps over their enclosed (but open at the top) bed areas. Plus they have hay stacked up that they burrow in--so fun to see their tunnels. They also get fresh bedding/quilts every single week. They have 5 of the barn cat houses too to snuggle in.

The Fire Cats I'm still working on. I had an idea the other day. Right beside their area is a nice big wood swingset (A-frame, of course) that is no longer used. We can remove the swings and monkey bar. Then we could lay the metal roofing sheets along both sides of the A-frame to make the sides. Both ends can also be covered by the metal sheets. Cut a hole on both ends for entrances for the cats and a people door and presto.......we have a pretty nice dry, warm place for the Fire Cats.  It even has a shelf in there that the cats come jump up on. We're still working on this thought and will talk to a friend about this, this week. But fall is definitely here, so we need to hustle. We currently have about 7 Fire Cats.

Vern is on my desk, sound asleep, looking so sweet. Froggie has been up in the Main Area for hours already this morning. Such a busy boy he's been. Sherlock is on my shoulder watching--hope he approves of this blog! Little Hans is running thru the office pushing a ball with his paws. His sister is in hot pursuit of him.

We have boxes here from Leggygal that I hope to show you all soon. It'll have to be soon as Lewes, Hoot and Sergei have been trying to dig their way into the boxes! I've shook my finger at them but all that does is to have them swat me.

I'd like to clear something up here. I'm understanding that things are being said about me not letting everyone know about Daisy being adopted. I made it clear from the very beginning that she was here to find a home. I had a person mention to me ONE time of a possible interest at the very beginning, but then no more from that person. Then I had 3 families come forward that were serious about giving her a home, from the first week she was here. I have been working with all 3 of these families for weeks--sending emails, getting info, checking into vet visits, etc  It was a very very hard decision. But, I finally made the decision 2 days ago. All 3 families were told about this and they were all very happy for the family that Daisy will go to. Only then did I post it in yesterday's blog. Now, if someone is upset with I didn't personally tell everyone, then I'm sorry, but it's impossible to tell every single soul. It was in the blog yesterday morning and it was also in a previous blog that this was all happening. I do my best and truly don't appreciate being made to feel that I've done something wrong. This incident is NOT going to take the joy of this situation away. The bottom line is she is going to a wonderful home. And I'm being happy for this whole situation.  I have to say, I try very hard to be kind and respectful and to be positive, but when things like this are said, I will stand up for myself. End of story--let's just enjoy this awesome dog.

The Hot Flash Fund will be used this week. I am on a mission to get those heaters here soon, due to our early fall, cold temperatures.

Sea Turtle is doing wonderful. We has been coming into the Main Area now almost every single morning. She loves to nap in the mop sink--she always looks so cozy! Joey is amazing---he's here, there and everywhere. Remember when he first came--he would stay almost in the same place for hours at a time. He's a happy boy!

Can you name the 3 little black kittens?  Cecil, Hoot and Payden.
How about all the brown tiger kittens?  Tara, Dutchy, Jinkee, Morgan David, Sindile & Emmitt
Who are the 3 legged FFRC cats? Bella, Sergei, Gustave, Asha, Cayden
How many cats do we have with CH?   17 and we love each of them!

Thanks to everyone too for being patient with BOXES--I know I'm behind but we will indeed get caught up eventually!

A big shout out to our Jena and Radar!!  Yes, I mean out generator! It has now been used 4 times because of electric outages. What a sense of calmness it gives me. The lights go out, slowly count to 5,6,7 and presto, the lights come back on again! So so thankful for this!

Take care, everyone and have a wonderful day! I have to share some awesome news I just received. My sister Nancy's MRI result of her brain scan just came back and it's negative---no cancer there!!!  I'm so thankful. Hug your family and your pets today--you'll be glad you did!

Saturday, October 3

Our Covie Tower is complete and it is awesome! It took two full days to complete. They finished the Tower by adding log ramps to the first level and the second level, so the cats can go up and down by using the logs. Then they added sisel carpet to some of the poles so the cats can stretch up and scratch it. They cut holes in both levels so the cats can even climb up the poles to get access to both levels, just in case they don't want to use the log ramps. The cats can lay underneath it too. If there's snow, they can get up on the two levels to stay out of the snow (we'll keep snow off of it as much as possible!). It's a great place to bask in the sun too. Just in case they need an easy way up and down, we pushed over the 9-level Kuranda Tower so they can easily navigate that. It's a great Tower!

The Porchie Haven is almost done too. It's going to be warm for this winter. And it has two windows for good weather. The insulation is all in, covered by OSB board, followed by our wonderful vinyl white walls that are easy to clean. The little kitty door is cut out too. They did an awesome job on this project too. The white board still needs caulking and then we will paint the floor. Then, it's ready to be used! The Porchies have their blankies picked out already and excited to use it.

Many thanks to Iams Company for their terrific help in these two projects. Each person was so nice and helpful. And the cats are especially grateful!

We had ENVELOPES last night! many, many thanks.
Claudia E from Oregon and her kittys---donation and stamps
Clarke, Jessie and gang--3 famous $5 for chicken (as a "just because gift")!
Dorothy C from MD--donation for Froggy & Derecho & friends
Colleen P from CA--boxtops for Caryn
Vicki B--thanks for the paper plates 6 inch!

We also have thanks to give for these donations thru PayPal:
Lynne W--donation for FFRC
Doubleydibleydoouk--donation for kitties and cats
Shannan W--donation for FFRC
Neal M from UK--donation for FFRC
Eartheyes from NC--donation for FFRC, to be used wherever the needs are
Janet K from CT--donation for FFRC
Gusti from Germany--to help with the material for Porchie Haven & Covie Tower
Sage I--donation to FFRC
Lindsey H--donation to FFRC
Jennifer S/jacksmom--donation to FFRC, in memory of Pizazz who passed 3 years ago.

Remember, if you order anything for anyone thru Amazon, if you go to our website (fofrescue.org) and click on the Amazon button, FFRC gets a kick back from that!  For the month of July, we just received $472.32!  It's just wonderful!

As you may know, we are in a voting contest. If you could help us, I'd appreciate it. The site is: http://eaglerarelife.com/content/jacci-moss   All it costs is a few seconds and votes! You can vote once daily.  Thank so much!.

We have been working on Kitty Kastle. It is my hope that my mom will be moving in soon. We have already notified the October people that had reservations. Yesterday, we removed all the furniture and belongings of Kitty Kastle. We have Kitty City now all super cleaned--it smells great and is squeaky clean. The furniture and items that we are storing in Kitty City are all wrapped and will be in great condition when we want to use them again some day. Yesterday, we were at mom's house and she was in agreement with packing things up! She sat there and got to boss us girls around as to what she wanted done! Great strides were made.  In Kitty Kastle, we now have a sliding glass door in the Wicker Room. Monday, Dion will be putting on the shower doors instead of the curtains. We also have two land phone jacks now in place. Monday also the TV people will come to put in a connector in the Wicker Room so mom can watch TV there.

Daisy has a home! She will be going to Craig, Marianne and daughter Daria. Daisy will probably be leaving tomorrow. She now has been spayed and her tube is out of her ear from her ear hematoma repair. She's a super great dog and I will miss her very much. This was a hard decision as all 3 families that have expressed a real interest in her were good homes.

Hot Flash Donations! I had to laugh last night about this. I was asked last night while the viewers and I were chatting about heaters for The House that Jonah Built. I said I did not have them ordered yet but since it's getting cold here already, the fans will be put away and we'll have to get the heaters for the Covies (and the Porchies). So......as is the way with our wonderful FFRCNation, I started receiving Hot Flash Funds. Totally caught me off guard and made me once again be so truly grateful for you, our friends for helping us with caring for all of the cats here.

Big thanks to these folks for the Hot Flash Funds--Gusti, Cheryl L from WA, LostGirl, FaithyMD, Mich, newfiedogmom, Ferole, Joco, Lannml, Maria L from NY.  The cats will all be so grateful for this warmth. I will soon get these here and in place! We will put 2 in The House that Jonah Built, one in Covie Haven, 1 in Porchie Haven and 1 on the Porchie's sunporch. Thanks ever so so much.

Tia has her spay surgery scheduled for Weds. On Thursday she finally weighed 2.00. But, today, she weighed 2.02! She and Lilly Rose had been staying for a little while at Peggy's. They are now here to stay. Today Peggy will take Little Bit and Karma back with her for extra TLC.  Little Bit is here on my desk, chewing away on a piece of paper. She's a little sweetie, as is Karma.
