As hard and rough as 2020 has been, there are still so many blessings and things to be thankful for. Plus, the cats, while they know there's been changes to this Rescue Center, are happy cats. Their lives are still fun, filled with purrs and play.

Today was an awesome morning! It was a HumaneOhio Day! We sent up 37 cats and kittens. This broke down to 24 females and 13 males (includes 3 of FFRC boys). The boys are Nugget, Giblet and Stuffins.

This gives us 1116 surgeries for 2020--668 female cats, 446 male cats and 1 female dog and 1 male dog.

2019 was 1202 spays/neuters

2018 was 1026 spays/neuters.

I know our goal for 2020 was 1300. I remind myself that HumaneOhio was closed for 6 weeks due to Covid shutdown. And money has been a big issue this year for the public. So..........I am still counting our 1116 a success! On to 2021 for spays and neuters. We've just received our new schedule for this coming year. We have been switched from Mondays to Thursdays.

Here are more reasons we are thankful!

Markus S from Germany--donation to FFRC

Uwe N from Germany--donation to use as needed, with a hug to Coralie

Frank & Charlotte from UK--donation to FFRC

Andy M--donation to FFRC
Kelly I--donation to FFRC
Debra O'N--donation to FFRC

Eric B--donation to FFRC
Isabel R from NY--donation to FFRC

Margaret L W and Kitty and Murphy--donation to FFRC

And we had BOXES (still opened off cam due to COvid quarantine)

Barbara E from NC--6 pretty homemade blankies & 6 awesome adoption bags

Santa Paws in Canada--ONSN's Pet Bed for Janie and all the fur babies at FFRC, because they have been well behaved!

Judy Judy--36 egg cartons

Claudia J from WV & Joey, Ellie and Merry--1 stack in box in box (cat design) for flash sale and 13 sets of beautiful stationery

Mr. Meow--gingerbread scratcher cat house, 2 cuddler cat beds and 3 piece dog toy set for Janie!

Anonymous Friend--Pinata Hut Tower Bed and Hide n' Play cat toy

MLS--long rug, coral in color

And then we had ENVELOPES!

Bill & Linda H from MI--card & donation

Phyllis B--card & chickie money

Jim & DiAnna & Friskey and Sparkey--card and donation

Wanda R from Paulding--donation to FFRC

Debbie & Greg and cats Laurie, Sophie, Sonny, Remy, Linius, Holly, Joey & Stormy--card and donation

Steve and I are both so thankful and relieved--our Covid tests were both negative! I'll tell you what--that was hard to stay put in the house even though it was only 3 days for our tests to come back. And the doctor said it was ok to do my morning breakfast routine. But not being out with the cats and kittens, like normal, was difficult. I always thought I was a very patient person but I learned that I have more to work on, in that department.

We have a family coming Tuesday to visit Purlissa. And a family coming soon to visit Giblet too. I had Nugget in the house yesterday to visit and play with Hopie. Oh my goodness, I don't know who was rough housing more--both were crazy silly! Here's a preliminary update:

Sparrow--x-rays of her knees and growth plates. As you probably already know, she had been a hit by car and fractured both knees which involves her growth plates. Not a good situation for a young cat. Her left knee is still very bad. Her kneecap is no where near where it should be. She has trouble trying to use this leg and is already showing some muscle atrophy from disuse. Her right knee is not good but most definitely better than her left. The course of action--remove the left leg to alleviate the pain and hope the right knee is able to get stronger and support her hind end. There is a possible surgery that may help her right knee. This all has been gone over by our vets Dr. Darcy and Dr. P.

Coralie--she had x-rays and an ultrasound. Her heart, esophagus and trachea are all very displaced due to the mass. It is still there. The good thing....there's no real pain. There is possible discomfort from the displacement of her organs which relates to her respirations and eating. Coralie is already a miracle cat--she survived severe frostbite and now she is dealing with this. Each day is a miracle for her. So, right now, we are maintaining, day to day. We are watching her weight, respirations, ability to eat, her color and mainly her happiness level. We will love her to the fullest! And remember...........she's a cat and cats are awesome in their ways.

You all take good care. Enjoy this day--each day can hold wonders for all of us!

Megan Fhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12229381152834147464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-339501112748012529.post-4233767303126943592020-12-17T17:42:00.001-05:002020-12-17T17:42:21.463-05:00Thursday, December 17, 2020
We have a bit of snow on the ground. And you would be right. We opened them in the PawMart, with a good reason. Steve came down with a fever last night--first one in probably 15 years. Because we both have had secondary exposures to Covid, we went to the clinic where a Covid test was done on both of us. We both have had mild symptoms this past week. Results will be back in 2-6 days. So......he's staying inside and resting. I am staying out of the main area when volunteers are present. And as always, we all wear masks. I can come out when no one is here to do what I need to do. Plus, the doctor said I could still do my morning breakfasts with the cats since Donna, Kim and I have been together every single day.

We are hoping this is just a simple cold for both of us but we want to be cautious. This is Purlissa, a calico persian that had been born here at FFRC on 9/17/17. She has been with the same owner since adoption. Due to severe allergies, Purlissa has returned to FFRC. She is so beautiful and sweet. Right now she is in Paddys Place. We already have a possible new home for her--another Persian home!

Tomorrow is Coralie and Sparrow's big days at the vets office. Today he is 13 days old--a grey silver tiger, a little boy. He was found when he was less than 24 hours old. He's been taken care of by a friend and now he's here. His name is Myles, a Name a Cat Name. He is being syringe fed and is a cuddler. His birthday is 12/3/20.

Friday is an important day! Dr. Darcy would like to see Sparrow and Coralie. It's time for Sparrow's second x-rays of her knees. This will give us an indication of what treatment may need to be done. She is one extra sweet girl--so kind, so sweet. And she just keeps right on playing and joining in with the kittens. Yes, her back legs are still wobbly, especially the left leg. We are hoping to see some healing especially in the right leg, enough to support her body weight more since the left leg is the worse. Regardless, this is a happy kitten!

And then there is Coralie. What a miracle girl she is. It has been a whole week since she has gagged up any food! This in itself is crazy. Looking at the x-rays, it's plain to see how that mass has so pushed and displaced her trachea and esophagus. Here's something else that is awesome---she is eating. YES...actually eating fairly normally. And I've weighed her--she has now gained 6 ounces of her lost weight back! I've talked to Dr. Darcy and she is very happy too and very perplexed. She would like to see Coralie on Friday too, for another x-ray and this time, an ultrasound. This will tell us what is going on. Dr. Darcy is curious as I am too--what happened? I also told her she has had hundreds of prayers said. Friday will tell us more of her story.

The Gold Christmas Castle that was here in the Rescue Center is now being shared with the Covies! And they love it!

Remember we've mentioned Merlin.....the newest Firecat? He was dropped off here mid summer. At that time, we would see him but only at a distance. One good thing---he was already neutered! He has come so far...he loves to eat and we can now lightly pet him. He houses in the A-frame by the Firehouse. Merlin is a buff cat. I'm thrilled with the loving, kind homes for our cats and kittens.

Alaina--adopted 12/7. She went into a home where she will be loved. Yes, she has a bit of sass, but she has much bigger love parts in her! I've already heard from her new mama and they have hit it off well together!

Kafuzzle--adopted 12/9--a much waited for kitten finally was able to go to her new home--she had to wait for her spay to be done. I talked to the new family last night and Kafuzzle is settling in.

Kazz & Bamboo--adopted 12/10. Another double adoption! And this one is extra sweet because these two love to play together! They now have a new mom and dad!

We also had an extra great day on this past Monday--it was our HumaneOhio surgery day. These are always good days. Due to Covid, we are trying to do check ins outside until the weather forces us inside. We sent up 45 cats and kittens. This broke down to 25 spays and 20 neuters and includes 5 FFRC cats.

This brings our 2020 totals to 1074, which breaks down to 644 spays and 433 neuters plus 2 dogs! We still have one more spay/neuter clinic for HumaneOhio on December 21.

The small kitten foursome are doing great and are all good friends. In the mornings, after a good night sleep, they are rather crazy! Flips, running full speed, jumping onto one another, skidding around corners--it's all in good fun!

We have thanks to give! Warped donated her Warped-de-doos and many kinds of cat toys with her super potent catnip. Angie L donated many of her homemade awesome soaps. Everything sold, bringing in $1,261. Wow--many thanks to Warped, Angie, to the flashie mods, the other mods and to all those that purchased these items.

I've been asked about an update on Coralie. So far, she is maintaining. She spends much of her day time on my desk, just napping and keeping me company for when I am working. Magic hangs with her a lot. She is taking her meals by herself and is keeping enough in her tummy that she is not dehydrated. She actually seems quite comfortable and peaceful. We are simply providing hospice care--offering food frequently, brushing her, keeping her comfortable and tons of TLC. Everyday is precious to still have her.

Two of our newer older girls are doing good. Zasha (leg and ear amputation) loves to have her tummy and back rubbed. But, it must be done on a kuranda tower of her choice! She has a very deep and pounding purr! Maddie Mae Tru is happy. She does what she wants. We help her to the litterboxes and make sure she finds her food/water bowls. She loves to lounge and seems quite content. Her fur is starting to grow back from where she had to be shaved.

The Porchies, Barnies, Firehouse cats and the Covies are all doing great. They all have extra warm bedding, heat lights, shelters provided and nutritious foods. Plus, snackers.........they love their snackers! A happy bunch of cats!

You all take good care. Join us for BOXES today at 11:00. We love to have your company.

Megan Fhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12229381152834147464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-339501112748012529.post-80736136741975977442020-12-06T18:12:00.000-05:002020-12-06T18:12:22.736-05:00Sunday, December 6, 2020
Grathaciate to you all! Nope, that's not a misspelling! It's my new word to you--to help express how thankful I am to each of you for what you do for this Rescue Center.

I am........grateful, thankful and appreciative......all rolled into one! So, a big grathaciate to you!

Kitty Christmas was yesterday. Actually, that was the conclusion of many weeks ahead of that! Here's a bit of info of what went into Kitty Christmas:

FIrst box arrived 9/20/20

The heaviest box delivered was 71 pounds

There were 598 boxes (including litter that has not been delivered yet)

Total weight, including litter was 16,115lbs

Bags of adult cat food--46 bags

FIVE pallets of litter will be delivered of Dr. Elsey's Ultra litter!

Bags of kitten food--26 bags

Snackers--83 containers

Baby food--99 cases

Canned cat food--191 cases

So, you can see that we have much to be Grathaciate about!

Yesterday was a fun day of celebration of YOU--all those who made it possible. We had cat cookies. The cats had 3 specialized meat cakes. Santa came and gave the cats a big golden castle they can play in for a long time! A fresh cooked 29 lb turkey was brought for an afternoon snack (some went into the freezer). Stories were told. Volunteer and mods gave their thoughts on favorite cats and kittens. Lots of names were drawn for many give-aways! A wonderful Christmas story by CIndy G was read. Plus an FFRC version of Twas the Night Before Christmas. All these things were planned for YOUR enjoyment because we appreciate you all.

And then.......another surprise happened. FFRC will be ordering many of the medical supplies that we are in need of. Money was donated to cover these costs. What a relief to be able to have our needed medical items on the shelves.

On top of that, our rather large veterinary bill at Dr. P and Darcy's clinic is paid in full. A whopping $2791.38 was covered by generous donators. Plus, there was a $1,299.14 extra that was given for a credit at the vet clinic!

And then a bumper upper miracle happened. You folks kept right on giving. We don't have a full total on it, but over $,1600 was collected in bump ups to be added to the credit at the vet office. Grathaciate!

I would also like to say a big thanks to Bill and Angie. They gave up half of their garage for months to hold all of the packages. They gave much time to organize this event and to do all the shopping. And to plan how to squeeze out every penny of a dollar to best use. Another thanks for providing our taco supper after the event! I am very Grathaciate.

And thanks to Lynnette and Marcia. They too gave hours and hours of time to help plan this event. They both are also my sanity-keepers! Pure joy to work with them. Grathaciate.

A friend and I was talking today of how awesome our FFRCNation is. FFRC is grateful for every penny. I will always remember a little girl that came to FFRC. She dug into her pocket and held her hand out so proudly--she had 57 cents. She earned it and was giving it to FFRC---oh wow. That was one of the richest 57 cents we ever had.

We had four more adoptions!

Lewbeth--(missed putting this in last blog) was adopted 12/2. She went to a family to be the best friend of a young girl. They had met here twice and Lewbeth sure did her best to show that she was the cat that would be devoted to this girl. Very sweet.

Jersey--adopted 12/5. She went into a family with 12 year old triplets! It was so cute--she went to each of the kids for pettings. She's going to be a tripled loved kitten!

Comanche and Kaitlyn--adopted 12/6. They went together to a home with a mom and a dad that has lots love and time to give them. They also had brought some Christmas supplies for FFRC!

We had BOXES on Thursday! Many thanks to our catetary, MK!

Anonymous -- 7lbs of RC Baby Cat Food, Catnip Scratcher , 2-- 20lb Containers of Tidy Cat Litter

<span style="background-color: white; Her white is
snow white now and she looks super. And no sticky things to poke her anymore. Many thanks to those that helped us with new shavers--we even have a spare!

Coralie news---many of you know that Coralie spent Monday at the vets. They had been closed for 2 weeks so that was the soonest we could get her in. In the past 10 days, she had been coughing up her food. This is not to be mistaken for actually vomiting. That is not the case. It was like she was "burping" up or coughing up her food. After having x-rays, a very large mass was seen at the base of her neck/throat. It is pressing on her esophagus and trachea. Like a true cat, she disguished her problems until her symptoms could not be hidden any longer. Due to the very large size of this mass, her trachea and esophagus is being compressed. The mass also has pushed the heart and lungs out of their normal position. It is displacing and flattening the trachea and esophagus. Dr. Darcy and Dr. P has conferred on this. We are trying a medicine that may decrease the size a bit. The good thing is there is no pain for her. There's several more problems though. Because of the compression on her trachea, it's hard for her to get enough oxygen. When she arrived at the clinic on Monday, her O2 was down to 50%--extreme critical condition. It took them some time to get the level up. Also, it's extremely difficult for her to eat. It's like a twisted tiny bit of esophagus to get any food to slide to the tummy. So, we are feeding her now every hour, just a little bit to keep her tummy satisfied with a little food. The other hard news is she also has masses in her lungs. With all of this combined, we are going day by day with her. Folks, please understand, we are at hospice care right now for Coralie. So.....it's all about Coralie now. Her
"treatment" now is love, chin scritches (her favorite), us telling her she is beautiful (she knows it), her fluffy beds and her yummy very soft food.

We also took in two new kittens. They are Saben and Salette Tiffany Sparkles (known as Sparkles). This brother and sister siblings are 6 months old with a birthday of 6/1/20. Both are black and white. Their names are Name a Cat name. They were found by a Deputy Sheriff when just 4 weeks old. His wife raised them and then asked if FFRC could find them homes! Both kittens are in Paddy's Place but will be out and about very soon.

Monday is our HumaneOhio surgery day. We hope to have a full schedule, including 4 of FFRC cats.

Take care, stay healthy and give your pets a big pet and extra snackers from FFRC.

It's a tremendous amount of support you give us and so we are full of tremendous thank yous!

We've had 4 more adoptions!

11/23--Prada was adopted. The great thing about this is she was adopted by the lady who also adopted Clive. This always makes me extra thankful--to have teenager cats adopted! They now have their very own dad and mom!

11/25--Kaylee was adopted! Her name is Maddie Mae Tru. This name is for an older cat with soul. One that is thoughtful and has accomplished living by pure determination. And then her Tru name means to have faith. You see, Maddie Mae Tru was found bumping her way around a neighborhood. A person there brought her to FFRC. She is obviously blind, an older female that has a huge heart. So gentle, so kind. She is a grey/white with long fur. Once she gets in better health, her fur will be extra beautiful. Right now it's full of mats and burrs and prickles. She has let me get her back combed out but the rest will need some clippers. Sadly, our clippers bit the dust, all at the same time.

And that is where we have had Clipper Angels come forward. FFRC will be supplied by several new clippers! This is like heaven to us as we use these often. One will be kept purely for surgeries. One will be kept in the front Thumper's Room where we do lots of grooming and shaving of fur for injuries/lacerations. One will be kept in the front Main Area for all of those quick needs. And we will have a spare to fill in so we never are in a position as we are now..........no clippers. I am so thankful for your support. Super big thanks to our CLipper Angels!

You may see Maddie Mae in the main area already. She just slowly walks around but seems to have picked the Kabana as her favorite room for now.

A few surgery dates for you:

December 7 and 21 will be our HumaneOhio dates.

December 12 will be our FFRC date.

And we have more thanks to give!

Steve & Lisa F--donation to FFRC, lus cat blanket, appetizers and Friskie packets, truffles

Pat P--donation to FFRC in memory of Kazz and Bonnie

Catlover2345--donation to FFRC, to be used where needed

Lori U--donation to FFRC

Janet M--donation to FFRC

Steph M--donation to FFRC
Colleen P--donation to FFRC

Madisonpepper & Charlie--dontion to help with Maddie Mae Tru

Inge VH--donation to FFRC

Maureen M--Happy Thanksgiving donation

Beth--donation in memory of Sophie, Belltime's kitty who has passed

Lostgirl--donation in memory of Bonnie

Julie E--donation to FFRC

Kelly L--donation to FFRC

Angelo D--donation to FFRC

Sounds like we may get a bit of snow Monday and Tuesday. We are ready! Snow shovels are in place, all the red heat lamps work. The cats have blankies and beds. Just an FYI--the chicklets that we raised since they were 2 days old are now hens as they are laying eggs! Many are the small "practice" eggs and many are double yokers. We're so proud of the hens!

All is good here. This week will keep us hopping with the finishing touches for Kitty Christmas and for the fun-raiser! We are excited. So are the cats..........they know everything we do here is for them and they too are grateful.

Megan Fhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12229381152834147464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-339501112748012529.post-77890108163444325042020-11-22T14:50:00.003-05:002020-11-22T14:50:43.036-05:00Sunday, November 22, 2020
I am so happy--our kittens and cats are finding wonderful homes! BOXES will be 1:00, that Thursday (12/3), followed by the DRAWINGS! And then that is followed by some really nice Consolation Prizes! Again, we bumped this event up a bit so that items will reach their destinations well before Christmas. This Pampered Chef Fun-Raiser will consist of 7 items--all have a value average of $200. All would be wonderful as Christmas Gifts if that is your desire! We can even mail them to their destination if you wish, instead of to the winners.

We had BOXES this past Weds. Saturday was our FFRC surgery day. Many thanks to Dr. Darcy, Amber, Sue, Lynnette and Becky for their help. We could not do this without a team effort! We did 8 neuters and 10 spays. Thanks too to Joyce D for the pizza lunch and to MLS who provided drinks for the day!

Those that were neutered: Paulie, Eamon, Davis, Zuccari, Comanche, Chewy, Coffee and 1 public kitten.

The spays were: Clive, Prada, Eileen, Daely, DIs, Dat, Joy Joy, Kaylee, Sparrow and Zasha.

Zasha will need a dental cleaning and so we will get her scheduled.

Sevaun had a physical--our girl is getting up in age--all good except some atrophy in rear legs

Sparrow--right knee is a bit stronger, left knee is very week. She has major rear leg atrophy going on. The worry is the pain level she experiences--that is uppermost in considering what we will do. Right now, it's all a waiting game and see how much she can heal.

And then today........we had HumaneOhio spay/neuter day! We sent 45 kittens and cats on the special spay/neuter truck! This broke down to 31 females and 14 males.

Our total now for 2020 is 1032--619 spays and 413 neuters. Our total of 2019 at this same time of year was 1061. COnsidering that HumaneOhio was closed for a couple months, we are doing very well in our numbers. We have probably 3 surgery days left for 2020. And then, we start all over for 2021!

Today is also dental day for two of our cats. Covie Jersey and Cliff who is a Porchie. More full reports on them when they return back home but I did get word that Jersey is done and had 4 major teeth and then 6 incisors pulled.

Tomorrow, Tuesday is a Flash Sale Day! This one starts at 11:00 and it's ALL Warped items! We are privileged to have such beautiful items from her and they are all about Christmas!

We've had 4 more adoptions!

Anda & Nother were adopted on 11/14. Two sweet girls, sisters! These kittens are now the only cats in the home and are so loved!

Zucarri was adopted on 11/15. He went into a home where a little 6 year old girl loved this kitten even before they went out the door!

Chewy was adopted 11/15. Chewy is a tad shy and needed a special home. And he found it--a lady who has lots of time daily to spend with him. She's showing him lots of love and patience.

We have more kittens on hold! Daely & Davis (together), Eileen & Eamon (together), Dis & Dat (together), Paulie, Jersey, Coffee, Kafuzzle and Kaylee all have wonderful homes waiting for them!

We took on 4 more cats.

Three came from a very rural cemetery--they were so scared they simply flattened down into the ground. All 3 had crevices in the ground where they had been laying. A friend of FFRC found them and then called another friend to transport to FFRC. At first, they were so cold, scared and bewildered. I feel they were loved by someone, somewhere in their lives. Once they were warmed up, bathed, fed and took long naps, they felt much better. Super sweet--all 3 of them and very beautiful. They are:

Mirabeau--DSH, female grey, tipped ear (already spayed), is a regal girl.

Eloise--DLH, female tiger/white, long tufts in her ear, so friendly

Alaina--DSH, female white/grey, loves to be talked to and fussed over.

The 4th is a kitten--his name is Stuffins. He is 4 weeks old and was dropped off at a lady's house who brought him to FFRC. I think Stuffins and Nugget will be good friends! Stuffins is grey and white, DSH. He is very sweet. He's been tested, bubbled bathed and his tummy is full. All this was followed by a nice long nap.

Remember Owens? I've just heard from his family. He is now 6 months old. He enjoys the geese as they fly by and the little birds as they play in the bushes. And that wadded up postie-note is just the best toy ever. CDot is a nut--his name should be CThief! He loves to get on my desk and run off with things. Miko, GG, Shaz and CDot are quite the wrestling team--they are full of energy. My favorite is when they jump into the air and "body slam" each other and then give chase. So much fun.

Saturday is our FFRC surgery day. We have many spays and neuters to get done. And that means....lots of adoptions coming up! Some of these kittens are just waiting for their spay/neuter to be done. Right now, we have these kittens/cats scheduled:

MALES: Paulie, Eamon, David, Zuccari, Comanche, Coffee, Chewy and several public boys.

FEMALES: Clive, Prada, Eileen, Daely, Dis, Dat, Joy Joy, Kafuzzle, Kaylee, Kazz, Zasha. This is a big list but we're ready to give it a try. We also have a few physicals to do.

We also have a full schedule for Monday with HumaneOhio with the public. Hoping to send up a full truck! Everything was sold, making $379 for FFRC. I'd like to thank everyone for helping this be a successful event. We have TWO more coming up--November 17 and 24. The one on the 17th is ALL of our friends Warped items! These are all Christmas orientated items. On the 24th is another special flash sale--more info coming on this one.

You may see little Nugget up and about some in the Main Area. He's been hanging out in the back Thumper's Room still during the day and inside the house for nighttime. But today, we have all the doors open, front to back and so he has already wandered up. The only thing he needs help with is placing him in the litterboxes occasionally--his legs are very short yet!

Asha is here by my desk, sitting up so regally, watching over the kittens that are playing in here. Between another piece of wadded up postie note and an empty syringe barrel, they are quite entertained! Prada is playing too. She is so sleek and very shiny. She has also become a talker. Kaitlyn is a teenager but really loves playing with the kittens. She's come a long way in her social skills--loves to be petted and fussed with.

We have more thanks to give. These are our In Memory Of donations.

For Bonnie--Kittiesmom, Snoopybaby, Donna DeC, Lori/Tsakani's family, RoseF, Pat Davies, Peggy & Bernie & Josie, Thomas Fr, Andrew Le, Shirley P, Risa SF, Aunt Donna H & Tracey, Cynthia Ca, Eaglewatcher, Julie B, Craig & Marianne & Daria, Leggygal, Kimkost, Dewitty, Edna R, Meghan H, Kerswill, Mark R.

For Kazz--Kerswill, Edna R, Dewitty, Leggygal, Eaglewatcher, Shirley P

Our furnace guy from United Heat was here today--he gave all 5 furnaces a check up. They all passed Hoping they will make it through another winter. Yesterday we had to call in the electric company, Gustwiller's to check out 2 of the 3 farmyard lights--were non working. The cats had put in a work order to get that fixed so they could see better at night! All 3 were shining bright last night.

Remember.......Kitty Christmas is coming up. And as you know, the format for this will be entirely different due to Covid. We had put up a tentative schedule, just to get your interest! We are still working on the details and so that schedule has been updated. Below is the new one--subject to change yet! The important thing is---to celebrate Kitty Christmas and to show our APPRECIATION to you all! FUn things involved! We have already received 2 pick up loads of goodies. They get deposited in Kitty City by Santa and Mrs. Santa! We then take pictures and put the items away. Doing it this way means we don't have a bunch of people here at one time--safer due to Covid. I will post pics on facebook!

KITTY CHRISTMAS AND APPRECIATION OF YOU EVENT 2020

DECEMBER 5, 2020 9-3PM

9:00 KITTY CHRISTMAS KNOWLEDGE, READING OF DONATOR NAMES & APPRECIATION DRAWING

10:00 FFRC CHRISTMAS STORY BY CINDY G & READING OF DONATORS NAMES

11:00 APPRECIATION DRAWING FOR VIEWERS-LOTS OF ITEMS TO DRAW BECAUSE WE ARE SO THANKFUL

12:00 CHRISTMAS COOKIES & EXTREME CAT CHRISTMAS SNACKS & READING OF DONATOR NAMES

1:00 VISIT FROM SANTA- GOODIES FOR THE KITTIES & CATS AND PRESENTATION OF A FUN CASTLE FOR THE CATS. I woke up to a note on my desk. It resembled a ballot and with lots of paw prints on it, crumbs of snackers, a whisker and a few dots of can food. Had to be cat related! While the kittens were playing, the cats were accumulating in the purple office. They were feeling very catriotic and gave me a list.

Derecho was voted as the best uncle ever

Ramsay was voted as the gentlest cat

Pania was voted as to how to really SEE the kindness in others

Coralie was voted as how to bear troubles with a smile & a purr

Asha was voted as knowing that everyone can be made a friend

Zelda was voted as the best keeper of treasures--boxes

Alma was voted as how determination can solve problem

Vernon & Hensley were voted as once being enemies ,knowing that being friends is the best.

Kiara was voted as the best for doing good deeds for others

Camvie was voted as a caretaker to many

Magic was voted as being unselfish--he knows how to share his heart

Janie was voted knowing that being different doesn't matter

..........Personally, I like this kind of voting!

We've had 2 more adoptions!

Frankie--our dear, sweet, loving kitten found a home and it's awesome! They love him very much! He was adopted 10/30. His new name is Franz. Because he was waking his new mom and dad up at 4:00, they keep him supplied with a dish of kibble in their bedroom for night snacking! He loves his fur toy on a stick! Happy kitten.

Dyambu was adopted 10/30. He went into a home with a mom, dad and a cat named Lynx. Lynx and Dyambu are already good buds! He is much loved already!

As many of you already know, we have lost a great friend and moderator of our chat--Kazz. Kazz has always been very supportive of FFRC, has been a joyful person. And compassionate. We shall all miss her very much. It continues to amaze me how this FFRCNation is. Even though many of us have never met face to face, we are friends. Good friends, family-type friends. And that means a lot. Rest in Peace, Kazz. You are missed.

A big thanks to our mods for the donation to FFRC, in memory of our friend Kazz. Touches my heart.

We've been even extra busy here. We have taken more cats and kittens on to care for. Our "inn" is full but these kitties were living under a house, needing some help. There are 6 of them--4 are siblings and then 2 are individual kittens. They are happy to be in out of the cold.Their names are from Name A Cat list. They arrived 10/31/20

Kaylee--female, lynx point siamese, long hair, born 8/1/20

Kafuzzle--female, lynx point siamese, long hair, born 8/1/20

Kazz 💙--female, lynx point siamese, shorter hair, born 8/1/20

Comanche--male, flame point siamese, short hair, born 8/1/20

Coffee--male, seal point siamese, short hair, born 4/26/20

Chewey--male, grey DSH, born 6/27/20

On 1/31/20, we also took on another kitten. Her name is Sparrow, another Lynx point siamese, short hair. Her birthday is 6/27/20. (Not found where other siamese were.) Sparrow is a sweetie and has captured our hearts--she purrs instantly. She had been HBC--hit by a car. She spent the day at our veterinary office yesterday. X-rays revealed her problem. We had initially thought she had fractured her pelvis because both rear legs are very wobbly. I wish this was the case. Her x-rays reveal that she took the blow of the impact on both knees. The left is worse than the right. The problem is, she is a kitten and not only are both knees fractured, but it also includes the growth plates of the distal femurs. We have no magical surgery that can fix this so for now, rest, pain meds and TLC will suffice. Also antibiotics due to an open sore at one of the knees from the impact. We moved her yesterday to the top double condos in the back Thumper's Room. Please keep her in your prayers and good thoughts.

Update on Zasha, our grey/white cat that had the double amputation--ear and rear left leg. Unfortunately, even with having antibiotics on board, she has developed an infection in her leg incision area and it's opened up. Dr. Darcy was consulated and we added another antibiotic. Plus, her wound is being flushed twice daily. She is eating good and loves to have her tummy rubbed. Please also keep her in your prayers and good thoughts.

Yesterday was our HumaneOhio surgery day. We sent up 50 cats! An extra good send-up! And yesterday was HumaneOhio's first day in their new building! We sent 36 females and 14 males. This included 5 of FFRC's cats. Our total for 2020 is now at 969 cats!

We have two adoptions on Weds--Soda and Nother will be going to their new home, together. On Saturday, our adult Irene will be leaving. We also have Dis and Dat now on hold.

We have thanks to give!

Judy & Phil--donation to FFRC

Nina S--donation in memory of mom Betty, for her birthday and the care we gave her "baby", Tuffy.

Pablo--donation to FFRC

Dora A--donation in memory of Kazz

Phleblady--donation to FFRC

Fran D--donation in memory of our friend & mod, Kazz

MimiinFL, Jack and Uncle Buddy, the cat--donation for Feliz Navidad Fund

Kimkost--donation in memory of Kazz--a true friend of FFRC

Nancy I--donation to FFRC

Gusti--donation for Sparrows medical care

Mitzi F--donation in memory of Kazz

Patrick & Shannan W--donation to FFRC

Napa--donation in memory of Kazz

Harm B--donation to FFRC

Dennis--donation to help with Sparrow's care

Burgundy--donation to FFRC

Yvonne vdk--donation to FFRC

Mary D & Randi M--donation to FFRC

Phyllis B--donation to FFRC, in memory of Kazz

David W--donation to FFRC

Patricia R--donation for FFRC

Juliann B--donation to FFC on behalf of Fran D

Lorene B--donation to FFRC
Robert G--donation to FFRC

Another special thanks goes to St. Mary's Parish Ministry Center. FOr National Cat Day, they did a collection for FFRC and then delivered it too! Lots of items--paper towels, baby wipes, dry cat food, toys, towels, etc. So very kind of them and much appreciated.

We've had an update on Zastria. She enjoys looking out the patio door. She had her first viritor and was very friendly. She is adjusting nicely and her new mama is enjoying her. Zastria likes her human's bed and her lap for a nap!

All is well in the cat FFRC world. The doors are open clear from the back to the front. The kittens are starting to come up to the main area. Paulie just ran into the purple office with Sodo in hot pursuit. Paulie dove into the cavity under the climbing steps. Completely threw Sodo off--he sat there looking for a couple minutes, trying to find Paulie while Paulie was sitting ever so still! Just like kids!

Megan Fhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12229381152834147464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-339501112748012529.post-89248103786544468132020-10-30T12:41:00.000-04:002020-10-30T12:41:34.492-04:00Friday, October 30, 2020
This is an extra long blog--a book, actually! Grab a drink, a snack and a comfy chair! We have lots to cover!
Hello to all of our FFRC friends. I'm late........getting a blog out and I'm very sorry. When Covid first started, I sincerely thought it would give us more time here. Instead, it has caused things to take more time. Needless to say, I'm behind in many things. Lately I've been working hard on our many applications which is very time consuming. It affects everything here including how we do adoption visits, the actual adoption, HumaneOhio, our cleaning, keeping volunteers scheduled, etc. Because Covid is also hitting everywhere hard, including Defiance, we are working on an FFRC COVID PLAN, to have things in place just in case we have a positive result show up here at FFRC. I feel it's important to keep you all up to date, to the best I can---and that is because you are important to us. I believe in being up front with you--to be honest. These planning things all take time too. If we ever have to use our Covid Plan, you will be made aware.

And to add to everything, this is just plain hard for most folks. Here, when I put our Closed signs up, I fully thought it would be for a couple weeks. I distinctly remember doing this --made me cry--we had never shut down before. And now, it's months and months later. We are still closed to the general public in trying to keep our many volunteers safe. We do work out safe adoption visits. This pandemic has been rough for everyone--it's caused many changes in our lives. Tempers are sometimes short, feelings are raw. We just have to keep trying, to be kind, to be thoughtful and to help one another through this. And above all, to be patient with each other.
A friend of FFRC has recently contracted Covid--here is something she copied:

So, let's do a catch up! She went to an incredibly patient family who is letting this sweet girl acclimate to her new home. They are keeping in touch with FFRC

Bella was adopted 10/24. This was our neighbor's kitten that decided FFRC was the fun place to
be! We've taken care of her for weeks and have so loved her. She left to be with a family of the
neighbor. They have kids to love on her!

Roosevelt was adopted 10/25. She actually lives down the road from FFRC!

Zastria was adopted this morning to a wonderful FFRC friend!

Please forgive me--I have totally confused my mods and the viewers with misspellings of Kalix
name. The correct spelling is indeed Kalix but I put it as Kelix several different times. This is a
Name a Cat name. I'm so sorry for the confusion.

Good news for our sweet girl Zasha. Her leg and ear amputation was done on 10/22. Everything
went well. Her ear tumor was sent in for a biopsy-and it's an innocent growth! She does not
need to have any further part of her ear removed. Dr. Darcy did an awesome job on both
amputations. Zasha is 100% enjoying her soft cushy orthopedic cushions. She does hop down and
back in from the lower condos in the back Thumper's Room. She hasn't wanted to venture out yet. Her sutures will be coming out soon.

And now--more catch ups. We have taken on more kittens and cats.
Nugget--a little bitty black/white boy that has long fur. He arrived at 3 weeks of age and weighed .85 ounces. He was all by himself outside--no place for a tiny kitty. Plus, the fleas were terrible for him. What a sweetie! He gets fed 7 times a day and gobbles up his syringe fed formula!

Joy II--also called Joy Joy. She is a long hair black/white female that arrived on 10/25. Someone must have dumped her at our local WalMart. That night is when it poured. She took shelter under the cars. Our volunteer that works at WalMart and her co-worker trapped her. What a beauty. She has a blackchin, black nose and a black dot on her left cheek. Her birthday is 9/14/18.

LewBeth--another long hair black/white. She is named after our friend LewBeth that passed away. She arrived 10/28/20 and has a birthday of 4/10/19. She has a black nose, black chin. She was so hungry when she arrived and is a bit thin. Another sweetie girl.

Zuccari--and yet, another black/white kitten, long hair. Zucarri was found by a volunteer, on her
doorstep in the dark. Where did he come from? He weighed 2.03 upon arrival and the boy never stops eating. His nickname is Pistol, for a good reason. This little guy is a go-go-go boy--if he's not down and out for a nap, he's on the move. And ornery.......yes, sir! That's our Zucaari! His birthday is 9/2/20. He arrived 10/28/20. He's a real treat.

And then, the kittens that we have said we would take in (before my vacation), have arrived. Their birthday is 9/4/20. Their mama is now spayed. The family kept 2 of the kittens and we took 5. They are very cute (and sweet) DSH's and ASH's. They arrived 10/29.
Dis--ASH (american short hair), female
Dat--ASH, female (shaved tummy for ID)
Tother--ASH, male
Anda--DSH (domestic short hair), brown tiger, female (shaved tummy for ID)
Nother--DSH, brown tiger, female
Ok--now, read those names down from the top! We sent up 33 cats--12 males and 21 females, plus we sent up a male dog that belongs to an FFRC friend.

As I am typing, I am being "mauled" by CDot! He is a complete nut! He's on my shoulder, the desk, the keyboard, in my ear, drooling and slobbering and purring like a semi truckHe also is a mask thief--he's been known to run off with our masks! And he looks so very innocent. I just love this kitten but I cannot adopt him. He needs a home!! As an orangie, he's absolutely perfect.

We've had another adoption--

Terri was adopted on 10/17. Such a sweet brown tiger kitten! She was adopted by a family with 4 kids that were so wonderful to her!

We had Buddy adopted briefly by the lady who rescued him. But, he's an active boy and needs a home with pets that will play with him. She has 2 cats, but they are older and sedate in their ways. Buddy was also being a leg tripper and she was afraid she would fall. So....yes, Buddy is back and already rocking and rolling with his friends.

We also took in a new cat. Her name is Zasha, a grey and white cat. She is probably a hit by car victim. She was hit hard enough to cause her bone to stick out in her rear left leg. She also has a very strange growth on her left ear. Dr. Darcy will be seeing her on Thursday for a leg amputation and a possible partial ear flap removal. This sweetie loves everyone and can purr and purr and then purr some more! We have her on antibiotics and pain meds. She's a very happy girl. Please keep her in your good thoughts and prayers. She has a bit of a recovery to get through.

We have thanks to give. Your supports is what helps us get through these times.

Linda H--donation to FFRC in honor of Pam S's birthday

Kelly I--donation to FFRC

Riely & Bonnie--donation to FFRC

Norma C--donation for caring for Boom Boom

Deborah S--donation to FFRC

YvonneVDK--donation to be used where needed

Christopher S--donation to FFRC

James R--donation for FFC

Uwe N--donation for FFRC

We have some dates for you! Mark your calendars!

This Thursday, around 1:00 or 1:15 will be BOXES, following Trivia!

Our next Fun-Raiser is 10/25 to 10/28. On the 28th, BOXES are at 1:00, followed by the drawing and consolation prizes! Eight awesome items are involved!

Our next two HumaneOhio surgery dates are: November 2 and 16.

The next FFRC surgery date is November 14, Saturday.

Plus, in November, we have 3 cats scheduled for their dentals.

Stay well, and be kind, friends. We each have a different story. If you need to stay home, stay home, but be kind. If you need to go out, just respect others when in public and be kind! Let's not judge fellow humans because you're not in their story. We all are in different mental states than we were months ago. So remember, be kind.

Megan Fhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12229381152834147464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-339501112748012529.post-89758370755245735372020-10-15T10:59:00.003-04:002020-10-15T10:59:42.081-04:00Thursday, October 15, 2020
Vacation is over and it's back to work! It will be open tomorrow. They are just at ease with sand as we are with snow! Plow it away! We will be back Oct. 11 and I'll be ready to get back to "work" on the 12th. Our dear sweet Mesa has passed. Last Friday she started showing some signs of respiratory distress. I kept her in the front Thumper's Room where there would be no commotion around her. She deteriorated Saturday. Dr. Darcy and I talked and it was thought to be her heart. She was in no condition to travel as it would've probably caused a respiratory collapse. On Sunday, it was decided that it was no longer fair to keep trying with her--she was very uncomfortable and it's never easy when respirations come very labored--so scary. Mesa passed quietly and peacefully with no more stress. What an awesome cat she was and is greatly missed. Some may ask....how do these things happen and they become so bad so quickly. My thought on this is that sometimes when a kitten is young and the heart is involved, the heart is able to keep up with bodily needs. But as the kitten grows, there's more demand on the heart and it then simply cannot keep up with the need for breathing. She was super loved.

Today, we will have 2 adoptions. I'm so happy about this--the brothers King and Donatello will be going into a great home together! We already know their new dad and he's a great guy! King and Donatello are awesome kitties--super sweet, super ornery and they can play until they are exhausted! We then will spend a second week at another house in Rodanthe. Both are along the ocean, which as a family, we all love. The volunteers will take excellent care of all the kittens and cats. They and the mods know they can reach me anytime for questions, etc. During these two weeks, I'd like to ask that, if possible, to hold off on sending boxes. We did 2 males, 7 spays and 1 amputation. All of the surgery physicals were good!

Neuters: Cohen and a public kitten

Spays: Terri, Traverse, Tippy Toe, Djinn, Boom Boom, Smokey and a public cat

We also did the left leg amputation on Cohen. He did great. Dr. Darcy is superb. This morning, Cohen is already moving about but is resting alot too which is what we want him to do. He is of course, on antibiotics and soreness meds.

Dr. Darcy also did some physicals: Dominic, McSplash, McSplish, Hensley, Coralie, Zelda, Coralie and Lucas. All are good. I'm glad to say Coralie's ears are clear and look great. We'll just keep up on maintenance now for her.

A big thanks to Joyce D for our pizza and bread sticks lunch and to MLS for providing the drinks. Much appreciated

Dr. Darcy also took a look at Jessie. Things have changed for our sweet girl. Her tumor has grown and yesterday it was painful upon palpation. She had also lost a bit more weight. Because we love Jessie so much and respect her, the decision was made to let her pass over to the Rainbow Bridge. It was the right decision. Remember, my feelings are always---it's better to let go 10 days too early than to be one day too late. Jessie was at that point of being tired and the tumor was a problem. So....our dear sweet 21 1/2 year old girl is resting peacefully now. She arrived here 5/26/14 after her long time mom could no longer care for her due to her own health. She was 15 then. I remember her mom told me stories about Jessie. Before she came here, she was an inside/outside cat and would present "presents' to her mom at the door. Our sweet Jessie actually brought up a 4 foot snake to the door and wanted to bring it in! The answer was--you're a good girl but no snakes in the house. The snake went back into the woods unharmed. That's our hunter Jessie. We all loved her so much and would answer to her beck and call. Thank you all too for being a part of our Jessie's life.

McSplish, McSplash and Dominic are doing better each day. McSplash is rubbing on my legs right now--he's such a baby! I feel he will lose some weight just by being active here.

We have thanks to give!

BillieK--donation to FFRC for Cohen's care

Donavon S--donation for all the kitties

Jakesmeowmy--donation to FFRC

Hallie G--donation to FFRC

Tracy L--donation to FFRC

Chuck & Bev--donation to help with Ohen's surgery and care

Remember our little Owen that was adopted! His mama sure dos love him. She says he is a lover, an angel and such a good boy. He enjoys being brushed and is an eating machine!

Another adoption! Mooi has went into her new home. She will also have 2 older kittens to play with. We know that Mooi is a bit shy but her new mama has tons of patience to work with her! Mooi was purring in the carrier so that was a good beginning!

Ramsay so loves his Ferrari car! It's perfect for him. You've seen the headrests on it? He can put his head right between that and it holds his head steady! It's also the perfect height for resting his head along the sides. He loves it.

Today we have the door open between the two Thumper's Room--hoping to get the 4 kittens of Smokey/Shadow to be adventurous. Jersey, Frankie and now Buddy are eating from the plate. Roosevelt is thinking about it! Smokey is spayed now and will go back to her original family as soon as the kittens are all eating good.

Irene and her 4 kittens are also doing great. They aren't thinking of plate food yet but they sure are playing hard and are now all over their Paddy's Place room. So sweet!

Take good care! Of course, it's very different than ever before. But, we are salvaging some of it! We're having our "different" Catstock still on the original date of September 12, Saturday. It's a thank you and entertainment for anyone that would like to watch our cam that day. We have things planned every hour on the hour--some 15-20 minutes long, some may be longer! So.....let's have some fun that day, show that we appreciate the support given and feel like we're still having a bit of Catstock. He is a black tiger and white, DLH. Cohen is 14 weeks old with a birthday of 5/25/20. A friend found him in the middle of a road. He appears to have been a "toss from the car" victim. Many of these kittens end up with a scabbed up face due to landing on their face. And many times their front legs go back, so if they hit a shoulder hard, the radial nerve can be severed. This is exactly what happened to Cohen. He has zero use now of his left front leg--it simply drags. So sad as this did not have to happen. It certainly is a hindrance to him as it drags along the floor. He will have that leg amputated on Saturday and then he can run just as fast as the other kittens!

Then we had 3 returns:
Dominic--arrived again on 8/31/20. Dominic is adjusting--he's actually wandering around in the main area a little now, feeling more comfortable. He had originally arrived when he was 3 weeks old and was adopted when he was 5 months old. He's a handsome black/white cat and had a very loving home.

McSplish and McSplash--arrived 9/2/20. McSplash is a male, grey/white and arrived at a whopping 21.07 pounds. They are adjusting slowly but both are ever so sweet. These two siblings also have been very loved. Danny, the new boy is doing wonderful. He's really got a heart of gold--so loves to purr and play. King is 100% back to normal. He just had a slow down time after his neuter but is sailing around now!

We got the fence of the Covies fixed. Pinto, the long hair torti discovered a way out. She's one of our two feral cats that are in the Cove. She would zip in and zip out like it was the most natural thing to do! We waited till we had the fence supplies and made positive she was in, then the fence was repaired.

The jungle gym inside the Covies had an overhaul. Both the top floor and middle floor was certainly showing age--sagging and leaking when it rained. So, they now have two new floors and it's double thick--will last for many years. It was also reinforced underneath the floors to make it even sturdier.

The A-frame little house that is near the firepit also needed a bit of attention. Lots of screws appropriately put in will keep the outside protective panels in place. This house is always enjoyed by many of the cats, especially for afternoon nap times.

We still have not caught Merlin, the buff cat that hangs out by the Firehouse. He comes every morning for breakfast and his roll in the catnip but cannot yet coax him into a crate. A work in progress!

Irene and her four kittens have "graduated". They are now in the Paddy's Place room. Irene was asking to be out of the condo. Because she has such a sweet nature, she can be up front in this room. Even if a kitten slips into that room or she slips out, she will be calm and not show that "mama bear" attitude! Her four little babies are as round as can be!

We have also been leaving the doors between the front Thumper's Room and Welcome Room to the main area, open. This gives the 3 tigers--Tippy Toe, Terri and Traverse, an opportunity to come up, if they wish. They are so very much braver and have been starting to play with the other kittens.

We have thanks to give!

Steph M--donation to FFRC

Janet M--donation to FFRC

Colleen P--donation to FFRC

Leanne and Mike--donation to FFRC

William M--donation to FFRC

Fran D--donation in honor of Mandy's 16th birthday & in honor of Hensley's birthday

Richard & Davena H--donation for a happy birthday to Hensley

Jabberwockysmom--donation in honor of Jessie

Ann P--a friend from UK--donation to FFRC

Remember September 12, Saturday was to be our big annual Catstock event. Because of the coronavirus, that has been canceled. But.........we still want to have some fun, all in honor of our cam friends! A more scheduled description of "things" will be coming up soon. But, keep the date on your calendar. We will have some fun things off and on all day long--all for our viewers!

Mesa, Owen, Danny and Bamboo are full out running, chasing each other. And then GG was on the Kuranda Tower as they ran by--he added to the fun by jumping onto Danny! CDot has turned into one of the biggest loverbugs of all times. Marilyn has been letting Shaz snuggle up to her and treats him as a baby kitten. He loves it! Musco is one of the most talkative kittens ever--he has something to say about everything!

Take care and enjoy this wonderful weekend.

Megan Fhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12229381152834147464noreply@blogger.com
