Weds., October 30, 2019

All are welcome to our OPEN HOUSE this Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00.  Come join us! We are so happy to be taking care of cats for 20 years!  All rooms will be open for a tour--inside and outside.  Refreshments will also be served. Come meet the Residents, those up for adoptions, the Covies, Porchies, Firecats and the Barnies!

Today is a busy day---Flash Sale at noon and BOXES are at 2:00.  Bring your refreshments, kick your feet up and have some fun with us!

Our window for fall weather is getting smaller.  Heavy rain coming in today.  Next week is much cooler temperatures.

Our Trunk o Treat at Shoney's was fun.  Not a huge amount of kids, but still fun. And it was good PR for the Rescue Center! The kids were so cute, all dressed up!

We have thanks to give:
James W--donation to FFRC
Gloria Jean--donation in honor of Magic

We've had an update on Avianna--" Avianna has adjusted so well in the house, it actually amazes me.  She had no fear....just curiosity. She is doing great even Xena has rubbed noses with her already"  All is well in Avianna's world!

Truly, it's not my fault.  My papers are being totally messed up.  I remind the kitties that these papers and notes are important to me.  Right now, one is chewing on a PawMart order.  Two kittens are trying to knock down my postie notes.  Timax is trying to eat the mouse on the screen.  And Chaps is belly crawling on my desk to dig under the pile of papers.  So...........what is there to do about this?  Actually, nothing!  They are too funny and entertaining!

I've heard from Elsie's new-mama-to-be.  She will be here mid November to adopt Elsie.

We now have Lorha on hold.

FFRCNation.com     From Goss/Linda L---This week I performed some much needed maintenance on the FFRC Nation website. The site was using two different pieces of software to have both a website and a forum. The forum is VERY difficult to keep updated. I made the executive decision to lock down the old forum and make it read only. Everything is still there for our history. I then created a new forum where people can still see what is happening at FFRC and they can participate by commenting or chatting on the site as usual. In no way was the decision to make the old forum read only related to personal changes on the site. It was a maintenance nightmare that I've been struggling with for a long time. I hope people will still visit the site and be part of the community there.  If you created a login before, it should still work.  If it doesn't sign up for a new one!   Linda--many thanks for all the work you're doing on this site.

Desmond is doing super!  He loves to snuggle under his blankies in his pen for his naps and bedtime.  He does get down on the floor with his new friends.  He's a toughie and a sweetie!

We have taken on 4 new kittens.  A family found a cat that was pregnant.  She had her kittens.  We had agreed a couple weeks ago to take the babies IF mama would be spayed.  They are planning on keeping her and bringing her here for our next spay/neuter day. They were born on 8/25/19 and arrived here on 10/27/19.  Other than fleas, they appear very healthy. Fleas are gone!  Names are from the Name a Cat list.
Sara--female, big tiger blotch back of head
Scampi--female, on forehead has a white stripe and white dot that is tiger
Soames--male, small tiger dot on back of head
Silky--female, very slick fur, 2 stripes alongside her ears
All of these kittens are white with tigery marks.  They are known as the S litter.

Have a great day!

Sunday, October 27, 2019

This past Friday night was our BINGO night at the Elks.  Many thanks to the Elks for letting FFRC participate in this event. It was fun, saw a lot of great friends, volunteers came to help and we raised money!  We just recently received a major tax bill--about $2,200.  So many thanks to give--to those that helped collect the prizes for bingo wins, to those that baked items, to the volunteers that worked the entire evening. Big thanks to Becky M for organizing this event.  While I was hoping to make $1,000 from the Bingo to cover half the tax bill, I was totally overwhelmed when we made.........$2,173.  It was amazing.  We had also done a 50/50, ticket pulls and various raffles during the evening. And then you know how our cam chatters do bump-ups at our cam fun-raisers?  Well, our very own volunteers did a bump-up of their own.  After all the pennies, dimes, quarters, dollar bills of $1's, $10's and $20's had been counted, our total came to $2,425.28.   We got to laughing so hard, our sides ached! What an awesome, fun night. Plus, we can pay that bill! I am so grateful.

Our next event is today--we are participating in Shoney's Trunk or Treat from 2-6 pm.  Our candy is ready for the kids, spiders and webs are ready too!  If you're in Defiance, come join the fun!

We found a favorite toy for Dooey--the catnip Yeow banana.  He'll roll, slobber, kick it will seek it out for fun.  He's a handsome boy.  And he's becoming braver--he's starting to come up to the Main Area now!

Our new girl, Jewel Elizabeth is watching the action from up high yet.  But, she seems to be relaxing and enjoying the sights.  She is also eating good. Hoping she will join us in the Main Area soon.

Penny Lane is also coming up more. You'll know her by her beautiful silky long fur and her tail end which is shaved.  Her wound seems to be healing very nicely.

Gemma is very happy being in the Main Area--she's so pretty and very coordinated on 3 legs. So is Matisse. Nothing stops these two kittiens.

Desmond is a messy little boy! He loves his food and is half being syringe fed and half eating on his own. We've left him down now a couple times on the floor to stretch his legs. He's a happy baby.

Little Fio and Timax are adjusting very nicely being back at FFRC.  Even though Fio's sight is limited, he is doing wonderful. Making friends as is Timax.

We've had a few adoptions!
10/24--Pansaroo and Kaze went to their homes together. We've already heard from the new family--"Kaze and Pansaroo are doing great. Kaze explored for about 10 minutes then was ready to play. Pansaroo took her time, envestigated every inch for about an hour, then wanted lots of attention. The kids did not want to leave them to go to school".  Sounds like they are all happy!

10/26--Avianna  was adopted. Such a pretty girl. She went into a home that had adopted Xena 4-5 years ago. She's going to be a happy girl to have her very own home. She's the second pf Lena's kittens to find a home.

`Who is the orneriest and fun teenager?  Fern  He's waiting for a home!  Whoever ends up with this boy is going to have a super sweet kitten.

The cats have a new fun furniture type toy in the main area.  Not sure how long it will last......but for now, they are enjoying it!

Just a thought--if you ever need help with website work......the best anywhere is our webmaster, Clay Stiles.  His email is info@claystiles.com.  Clay will always be special to me. At a very traumatic time in FFRC's history, our entire website and all internet connections was trying to be ruined by someone who wanted to bring FFRC down. At that time I did not know Clay. But he called during the turmoil and saved everything. Not only that, he built a new website for FFRC.  He will always be a hero to me. Feel free to contact him. His job is website building and he's awesome at it!

November 2nd, our new little CH will be arriving. His name is Dickens and his foster dad, BIllypogo will be delivering him to FFRC.  We've been waiting for him!

Our PawMart continues to be updated, thanks to VRS. She keeps our items in check--adds them when we have new things and deletes as things are sold. Thanks, Vaun!  Check out our website at:  fofrescue.org

I've been asked about future dates, so here you go.........Catathon will be June 21, 2020.  Catstock Festival will be September 12, 2020.  Dance Recital Concessions will be June 507, 2020.  We are planning ahead!

Help us by sending us your Purina Dry Cat/Kitten food receipts!  Also Purina Prescription receipts.  You can copy and email or text Angie L or myself.  If you need help, feel free to contact us!

Take care!

Just amazing and we are so grateful.  Steve sat down last night and got those checks written for bills!  We are soooooooooo thankful!

We have taken on a new young adult cat.  She appears to be spayed.  Her name is Jewell Elizabeth (a Name a Cat name).  She is a Snowshoe Seal Point Siamese.  Jewell Elizabeth came from a family that could no longer keep her.  We have put her at 2 years, with a birthday of 10/12/17.  She arrived yesterday 10/24. She has her white socks and her muzzle is interesting!  The left side of her nose has a long white streak while the right side of her nose is brown and white.  She has an ear infection, had fleas and a sore on the back of one leg, all of which is being treated.

We also took on another tiny baby kitten.  His name is Desmond (another Name a Cat name).  He is an all buff kitten and is 4 weeks old.  His birthday is 9/25/19. Desmond arrived 10/23/19.  He weighed in at only 11 ounces.  He was found outside by a bush, no mama.  There was a sibling but she had passed away.  Desmond may only be 4 weeks, but he has a meow of a lion and an attitude of being "big stuff"!  He sometimes eats from his plate and we fill in with a syringe.

Auntie Peggy has brought her last two fosters back-Fio and Timax. There is a reason that Peggy kept these two boys longer---unfortunately, they developed a virus that hit their eyes very hard.  They have been under constant care of Dr. Darcy.  They are still healing but it was time to bring them back to further their socialization skills.  They both have permanent eye scarring.  We know for sure that TImax can see a bit but not so sure about Fio.  I want to thank Peggy for the very very hard and dedicated work she did for these two boys.  Without her constant care, they would not have healed as well as they have. We kept in constant contact to continue their care with Dr. Darcy advise.  My thanks to you, Peggy, for the love and compassion and help you gave to these two kitties.

And we have more thanks to give!

Do you know you can sponsor a cat? Yep, that's right!  You can go to our website at fofrescue.org and click on PawMart. Scroll down to Sponsor A Cat.   It's only $20 and you can pick a resident or any of the cats to help.  This sponsorship means you'll get a certificate from FFRC and a picture of the chosen cat sent to you.  This helps with that cat's flea prevention, litter, etc.  Many thanks!

Derecho and Auntie Kathy and Auntie SonJa have been busy!  Please check out their latest youtube!

We are getting things winterized out on the farmyard and with all the Covies, Porchies, Barnies and FIrecats.  Red heat lights are being checked, beds are being fluffed and refreshed, wind guards are up, furnace is checked, heated water tubs are checked for the horses, etc.  But for today, it's beautiful outside!

We have a saying here at FFRC--It's "This Rescue Center is a place of Joy!  Please....only bring peace, friendship and a good heart in our Rescue Center".  This goes for our chat and our FFRC facebook pages too.  And always know there are people who enjoy causing harm and problems.  One thing we do--protect ourselves from trolls, etc.  Always know, we give our best for the cats here. And know that we love our chatters, lurkers, fb friends, etc.  Our hearts are true and big for what we do.

Upcoming things:
Oct. 25--BINGO at Elks  7:30 to 9:30 pm
Oct. 27--Trunk or Treat at Shoney's 2-6 pm.  We will be there with our cat car!
Oct. 30--Flash Sale--noon
Nov. 2--DIckens, our new CH kitten will arrive
Nov. 3--OPEN HOUSE here at FFRC from 2-4:00, in celebration of our 20 years!
Nov. 4--HumaneOhio

Lots of "stuff" going on.   Plus possible adoptions later this afternoon!  We also have a few cats on hold--Lorha, Avianna, Pansaroo, Kaze, Enola and other families still deciding!

Gemma continues to do well and is healing nicely. Matisse had her leg amputation on Monday and is also doing well.  She's already on the floor with her friends in the back Thumper's Room. It's possible that Penny Lane won't need a tail amputation.  Her tail was shaved at the end, exposing the thin bone at the end.  Little missy kitty chewed that little bone off and now.........the skin is actually coming together over the end!  Dr. Darcy will have a look on 11/9.  Chardonnay is becoming friendlier and is playing with the group of kittens.

Dooey, the big boy lynx cat loves the back Thumper's Room.  He has adjusted nicely there and is calm.  Hoping he would like to come back up to the Main Area soon.

Take care all.  Thanks for being our friend.

Tomorrow is our HumaneOhio spay/neuter day.  Always a great day when we can get more cats spayed and neutered.  It's truly the way to help with the overpopulation problem.  If you are interested in an appointment, please call 419-393-2400 weekdays 9-5.  We'd be happy to answer questions and set up appointments. We do these special days twice a month.

Update:
Gemma--she is doing wonderful from her leg amputation.  Running and playing and making friends in the back Thumper's Room.  She's gained a bit of weight.  Is still on soreness meds and antibiotics. A real sweetiepie.

Chardonnay--another black/white kitten!  She is also doing good.  Still a little shy but most definitely progressing in her social skills.  She is a healthy kitten!

Matisse--a white/black kitten. She too is doing well.  Her bad fracture of her left humerous is less swollen. But, as we already know, her radial nerve has been severed so she has no feeling in that leg.  Her amputation surgery is tomorrow, Monday.  She's going to do great.  She purrs as sooon as you talk to her. She arrived on 10/17.

Penny Lane--a long hair black/white kitten.  What a beauty.  In addition to her needing to be spayed, she will have a partial tail amputation. The end of her tail has been degloved--bone is showing and will need to have that shortened up a bit.  She's a good purrer too.

We have a new cat. He simply appeared in someone's yard. The person that found him didn't want him being outside this winter and so brought him in.  He's a lynx point siamese, had fleas and both ears badly infected.  He's an exceptionally handsome boy--has fawn/light brown markings.  He's been tested, bathed, wormed and has his vaccines started.  His name is Dooey which is a Name a Cat name. Dooey is a good boy and friendly.  Won't be long until he is up in main area.

We've had another adoption.  Gunner was adopted on 10/18.  I saw a picture of him already playing in his new home.  He's an exceptionally wonderful kitten, going into a great home!

Pansaroo and Kaze will be adopted together later this week--on Thursday late afternoon! We also have other families visiting to pick out their new kitties!

Lena and her kittens are in Paddy's Place and Main Area.  If it's quiet, such as breakfast time, their door is open and the kitties have run-around time. Lena is actually doing very well and is coming out to explore. She has a favorite catnip kickeroo that she plays with too.

Wednesday, October 16, 2019

Lots of catching up to do!  We are back from vacation. We had a wonderful time, made great memories and best of all, spending time with family.  We are already looking forward to our 2020 vacation!

One of the best things that has happened is that little Jeremiah James was born--the son of my granddaughter Ashlyn and her husband Josh.  He was born 10/10/19 at 10:19 am!

We've had two adoptions already this week!
On 10/14/19, Echo was adopted.  This is another extra sweet kitten.  She picked her new owner and even fell asleep in her arms while we were going over her health papers!

On 10/15/19, Jay Money was adopted.  Thanks to Vaun for helping with his transport to his new home.  He is now with his two real sisters!

On the first Saturday we were gone, Esteem and Dadou were adopted together. Thanks to Connie D for helping with this adoption!  We had recognized these two adoptions right before we left!

On 10/11, we had a HumaneOhio transport! One of our favorite things! 31 cats were sent to HumaneOhio.  That broke down to 18 females and 13 males.  Our total so far for 2019 is now at 927 cats.  A year ago, we were at 868.

We have taken on 3 new kittens this week.
Chardonnay--black/white, 10 weeks, birthday is 8/2/19.  She was found on a road by a family. They had actually kept her for 2 weeks and due to family circumstances could no longer keep her. She arrived 10/11/19. Her name is a Name a Cat name!

Penny Lane--black/white, long hair, 6 months. birthday is 4/17/19. She was found on a road all by herself.  The end of her tail will require a partial tail amputation as it's been degloved by an accident of some sort.  She's a sweetie. She arrived 10/14/19.   Her name is a Name a Cat name!

Gemma--black tiger and white, 9 weeks old, birthday is 8/9/19.  She was found by a person that had put her on FB. It was posted she had an injury.  A volunteer checked into it and brought her to FFRC.  Her rear left leg had a major fracture.  She arrived on 10/14 and was taken straight to our vets for an x-ray. Steve drove her to the vets.  They confirmed it was a very bad fracture that was non-repairable.  On 10/15, her leg was amputated.  Today, the 16th, she is up in her condo, playing, eating and feeling so very much better. Thanks to Gem/Edna and mama for bringing her back to FFRC from the vet's. She's on antibiotics and pain meds.  What a sweetie.

Evan, one of the kittens that Auntie Peggy is fostering came back to stay this past Saturday. He's in the Main Area and has made lots of friends. Evan is a brown tiger and is ever so sweet!

Graduation Day!  Lena and her kitties are now in the Paddy's Place room.  They have had access to the main area for several mornings now and have done great. Mama Lena (the Meijer cat) has actually come up to the main area and watched the action by the sink!  But, today, they have graduated to a room in the main area.  We have that door shut but they have lots of visual to all the action. A couple days and we'll open the door! For now, we want Lena to know that this room is her safe room.  Lena has come a long way since her arrival.

Little Arwen is so funny.  He pushes his chest out and struts about. Avianna is the little prime a donna of the litter. Apple Jack is just plain the cutest. And Aleesha is gentle and kind.

FELIZ NAVIDAD

Est. DOB 10/1/2008

Arrived at FFRC 12/17/2009
Passed away in 2013
A very special cat, but aren’t they all? Her real name was Feliz Navidad Grace Rhoda Moss. Feliz Navidad because she arrived around Christmas time. Grace because by the Grace of God she survived. Rhoda because she was found on a road. Moss because she became a Jacci cat.
There had been an ice storm the day before Feliz arrived. She had been seen on the road but left for dead as she was frozen to the road. A person who had already driven by her had just assumed she was dead. When he went by her many hours later, she raised her head ever so slightly and he ever so gently shoveled her to get her unstuck. He took her then to a friends house who wrapped her up in warm towels from the dryer and brought her to FFRC. She was suffering from severe hypothermia and neurological problems.
The first two days was touch and go. Each day was a struggle. Just breathing the first two days was hard. The most wonderful thing though–Feliz purred. For the first days she was non-stop purring. On day 4 she tried to tand and on day 5, she could walk, but in tight circles. Over and over again.
But she did start her real journey back on that day. Her ordeal left her with neurological problems. She had seizures but they were able to be controlled. She was a survivor. Because of her, FFRC started the Feliz Navidad Medical Fund. It was set up to have funds available for those cases where there are extraordinary medical costs.
Feliz became one of Jacci’s house cats which she loved. At times she would become extra excited and she would then start her circling up again. She was a very happy cat and loved to be cuddled. Then in 2013, her seizures came back with a vengeance. They could not be controlled. With much sadness, Feliz Navidad was sent on her way to kitty heaven. She was and is still missed so very much.
Her “job” continues. We still have her Feliz Navidad Medical Fund. It has literally saved many lives. We use this fund for those extra medical needs--leg amputations, tail amputations, dentals, fluids, extra antibiotics and pain meds, etc.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN CONTRIBUTING, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SEND A CHECK (PAYABLE TO FFRC) OR A PAYPAL AND MARK IT FOR THE FELIZ NAVIDAD MEDICAL FUND. WE THANK YOU.

A reminder:  our website is fofrescue.org  It's filled with information about FFRC.  Check it out!  The Paw-Mart store will soon be updated with lots of new items!

Take care!  While our vacation was super wonderful, it's great to be back.  I very much missed the kitties and cats and the volunteers and and and!!
