A short blog to wish you all a Happy New Year and to let you know the lasta video of 2017 is now ready to be viewed. Thank you Derecho for all the wonderful videos! Please click the like/thumbs up button on u tube as it helps generate more $$ for FFRC.  Thank you!

We had one last adoption for 2017. Little Tres went to his new home. He will have lots of great sisters and brothers and a bunch of fun stuff for a big cat playground! This makes 28 adoptions for December.

The door is now open to the Main Area from the Welcome Room and Front Thumper's Room.  Now, if Liris and Nairobi would like to come up and join the rest of the kittens, they are welcome to do so.

Tuesday is our next HumaneOhio surgery date.  Hoping to have a full load going up for their spays/neuters!

A couple thank yous!
Eike S--donation to FFRC
Shannon S--donation for the care of Victor, Jackson, Markus and all of their friends, also in loving memory of Leonard.

The 5 new ducks out on the farmyard are doing good. They joined right in with the rest of the bird flocks!

And here's the link! Enjoy this last video of 2017!

Saturday, Deember 30, 2018

Happy New Year 2018 coming up! Our goals are to help as many cats and kittens as possible and to increase our spay/neuter numbers even more.

We've had 4 more adoptions!
Kestrel was adopted. He was picked out special for a certain lady who was ready for a kitten! Kestrel is the last of those 3 K kittens.

Jericho was adopted next. He was long anticipated! He went to a really nice family. Jericho and Jester arrived together, now both adopted.

Brillance left that same day too--12/28.  This couple was very excited to be able to have Brillance as their own kitten! She was one of the 7 Oxbow kittens that we took in.

Airio was the last to leave on 12/28. He went to a very kind couple. Airio was found in Fulton County along with Alvin---they are now both adopted.

And still more adoptions coming up!

We had BOXES last night and Envelopes. Many thanks to Lynnette and Donnajb for filling in for me so I could take a rest.  The "crud" that has invaded so many has visited here.

Our 2 newest kittens, Liris and Nairobi are doing good. They now have their initial vaccines in them and several days of worming. Won' be long until they come up to the Main Area. Their frostbite ears are looking much better.

Lucky kitties and cats---they've had 3 hambones in this past week. It's amazing how they pick them clean. Most of them take their turns to gnaw on it--they sure enjoy it. Especially Ramsay--he really gets into it!

Joyful is strolling about here in the purple office with me.  We gave her a tail tip to nose tip grooming last week--she looks great.

Lucie is doing wonderful. Most mornings now she comes up to the Main Area all by herself for her breakfast! She knows exactly what she wants--her specialties are meals and lap holding and back scratches!

Nsuku and Julianne continue to be comfortable here in the Main Area---which so pleases me! Love to see them playing.

The farmyard has 5 new ducks! They needed a new home and so we said yes. They have already fit right in with the other farm animals.

Take good care and keep warm! As of this moment, we have 80 days and 12 hours until spring!

Thursday, December 28, 2017

We've been a busy Rescue Center.  The week between Christmas and New Year's always brings extra visitors, because many people are off or are visiting family. The cats are, of course, enjoying this!

We had two more adoptions.
Chesterfield and Cariad were adopted together! Such a wonderful thing, as they are brothers! So happy for them.

And more adoptions coming up today!

We took in 2 more kittens. I am amazed that we are still getting kittens. These little siblings were found at an outside workplace.  Cold and hungry.  The work guys took them into their hotel and brought in the next morning.
Nairobi--orange/white,  male, 4 white feet, white chin, neck and up the nose.
Liris--torti, tiger, female, 2 front white toes
Both Nairobi and Liris have small spots on their ears where frostbite had started. But, now that they are warmed up, the ears look much better. They were dirty and had grease/oil on them, probably from the vehicles at the worksite.  They are 10 weeks old and arrived 12/27/17. Their birthdate is 10/19/17. Two nice kittens. They had heaters yesterday and slept the entire day.

We have thanks to give!  We are a grateful bunch here at FFRC!

Here's an update on Mally and Shalimar--They are doing well.  They are totally different kittens--Shalimar plays hard and crashes hard and Mally is more mellow.  They have both made themselves at home.

It's mighty cold here.  I know some of our viewer friends have had massive amounts of snow.  We had about 4-5 inches but the temps now for the next week are down to minus 14.  Brrry cold.  All the heat lamps and heat pads are being used.  All 4 horses are brought in now for night time. Millie the donkey and Pickles the goat have a nice straw bed in the lean too.  The barn animals--geese, ducks, peacocks, etc., gets ample feed.

The Covies are doing good. We keep their furnace around 55 degrees--plenty comfy for them! It's interesting how they become bet buds in the winter--sleeping in heaps is always warmer!

We have officially shut down the back Thumper's Room! It's been a very long time since we've had that room down.  The two mama cats--Nsuku and Julianne are actually doing quite well . They are enjoying running all over and both are now playing! Such a good thing to see.

Jaam is here in the purple room, playing with Tracker--they have become good friends.  Janie, the doggie, is happily napping on the top of the Kuranda Tower again! Always makes me smile.  Zelda is on my desk, along with Kester who is snugged right up to Zelda for a nap! Annet is curled up on a scratching toy, watching the kittens playing. The 3 littlest ones--Bambi, Brielle and Bloom are doing great--they fit right in and play with the rest of the kittens.

Kota and KaeKae, the newer sisters are so cute--both have that cobby look to their frame. Kota is braver and is in the Main Area while KaeKae likes to lay with Eddie White on his shelf.

Take care, stay warm!

Merry Christmas and a peaceful 2018!

We had 5 more adoptions!
Paris went to her new home. What an awesome home too. This is the family that adopted Bam and Bender from us earlier. A great cat home. They fell in love with Paris the moment they saw her!

Kikae and Kester--brother/sister grey kittens went to a family with 3 kids. I do believe these 2 kittens will fit right in and know they have a wonderful home! So exciting--they are a special present to their special daughter.

Jester and Masana--went to a family that we have known for a long time. Many years ago, they adopted Hal from us. I'm so happy for these two kittens.

It's happened this morning--all the doors, front and back have been opened and the cats and kittens are all free roaming. Right now, the last persian kitten Purrlissa (will go to her new home soon) is on my desk, batting the tail of Zelda. I do believe Zelda will set her right on cat rules!  Trey is up also as is Kota and KaeKae.  They have just fit right in--they were ready for this added freedom. I even saw Juliette running by! Next, we will try Nsuku.  We just want one big happy family!

We had BOXES and Envelopes yesterday. My deepest thanks for your generosity and compassion.

It looks like the Christmas tree is going to make it thru another year--the cats have stayed off of it! They sure have been climbing up to the top shelves to look at it though!

All is good here. I do believe we are finally on the end of this different virus that entered here. There have been no residual affects of this particular virus, for which I'm thankful for. Just takes time, antibiotics and watchfulness, good food, vaccinations.  Remember that wonderful fun-raiser we did for Fabio Fiver?  That money was designated for medical needs. I am very grateful for that--we have used it heavily to help us with this healing process.

The tree trimmers will be here next week.  We have some dead trees on the backside of the playground for the Covies. We need this cleaned up and removed so the branches do not come down and damage the fence. Have to protect our Covies!

They tree trimmers will also remove the tree that is alongside the grey barn where some of the Barnies like to be.  This tree has been dead for a couple years and needs removed so no damage happens to the roof. We have to protect our Barnies too!

We had a little snow here yesterday morning early but it has already melted due to warm temps. Now comes the cold--the high this week is to be in the mid teens. We checked and started the snowblowers just in case they are needed.

Take care, have a wonderful Sunday and Christmas.  Know that you are important to FFRC!

We have a new kitten. His name is Trey. He arrived after being found outside all by himself. Trey is 11 1/2 weeks old with a birthday of 121/21/17.  He arrived yesterday. He's a beige boy with a big heart and whopping purr!

Suka, Kota, KaeKaae, Bambi, Bloom and Brielle are all doing good. They have pulled Trey in as their friend. This group of kittens are in the middle Thumper's Room and sometimes also in the back with the last 2 Persian babies. They are rockin' and rollin' together!

Vincent continues to do well. His hiney and other parts are healing quickly. He's still on medication for a little longer yet.

We also took in a past FFRC cat--wait, once an FFRC cat, always an FFRC cat!  Eclair is her name and she was originaly here 8/12/2010. She was just 9 weeks old. Her birthday is 6/10/10.  She's been with the same dad all these years and was returned 12/20. Her dad is quite ill and can no longer care for her. She's white with grey on her head and a tiger tail. She's doing ok--I can tell she misses her home but she is trying really hard to fit back in. She's in the 2 Thumper's Rooms to cruise about. A very nice cat.

And here's another great video!  It's a special 2017 FFRC Adoptions Part 4, Production by FFRC Captures and Captions. Directed by Derecho   https://youtu.be/_gtHWQIVxrU. If you like, click the like/thumbs up button and help generate more $$ for FFRC.

I would like to take this time to wish you all a Merry Christmas. You are part of our FFRCNation and we care about you. If you're not busy on Christmas, the cats and kittens welcome you (and so do we volunteers!)   Have a wonderful weekend.

Tuesday evening, December 19, 2017

One of my favorite things--spaying and neutering! Today is our HumaneOhio transport day. We loaded up 35 cats this morning--20 females and 15 males.  2 males and 2 females were FFRC's kittens. The 2 males we sent to HumaneOhio are Jericho and Jester.

Our grand total now for 2017 is complete as we will soon start 2018 and a fresh slate.  Our grand total is 914, which consists of 542 females and 362 males.

For 2016, our grand total was 563.  We did 335 females and 228 males.

My goal for 2018 is to reach over 1,000.  We can do this!

Many many thanks to you all-----
Billie K--donation to FFRC, in memory of Sea Turtle & to help with Vincent's medica needs and in memory of Ming

Remember our two wonderful kittens--Allman and Arlo? I've just received a note that they are doing great. They love their Christmas toys and tuck their toys into the branches! They are loved!

I've seen pictures of Tsakani in his new home. Looks like he loves the comfort of home-living already! I am thrilled about his adoption!

We had 2 more adoptions!
Purrcivel went into his new home on Monday. He was a special Christmas present for the lady of the house! I know without a doubt that he will love having his own home!

Alvin left today. He has a fun-packed home already with brothers and sisters to play with. I've already seen pictures and he loves the couch for naps already!

Our new little Vincent Van Gogh is doing wonderful. It's amazing how fast his bum, tummy and legs are healing. And he so loves to play. He will be in the Main Area very soon. Such a sweetie kitten. Vincent loves to be held and will cuddle under the neck!

We also have some new kittens that we have taken in:
Suka--a little grey & white kitten, female. She's a little shy yet but so wants to be brave. She's working on her self confidence. More info later on her.

Kota and KaeKae--these two kittens arrived on 12/18. They are 5 months old with a birthday of 7/9/17. They were in danger of being dumped "somewhere" which would have been extra sad as they are so very sweet and friendly.  Dumping is always hurtful to cats. Kota is mostly white with 1 white ear and 1 black ear and 2 black rings on her tail.  KaeKae is black and white with white/black speckles on her feet--very cute. They are the 2 females that were went up to HumaneOhio today.

Bambi, Bloom and Brielle--these 3 female kittens arrived today. We had told the owner that if she brought the mama to be spayed today, we would take the 3 kittens. They were born inside and have never been outside. Their birthdate is 11/1/17.  Bambi is all brown tiger. Bloom is a light grey tiger with cream on her forehead. Brielle is a brown tiger with a tiny bit of torti. All three are friendly and cuddle up together for a nap!

Today was our Flash Sale. This is the last Flash Sale for 2017.  I thank Mich and Lynnette for doing this sale. And I thank everyone who donated the items that were sold. And the mods---the Flash Sale team is wonderful! And for all those that purchased the items---a big thanks!

Take care and love on your pets! It'll keep you warm! Remember Coralie and provide a warm bed, electric water bowl and good food for all pets outside. It's so important.

Sunday, December 17, 2017

Finally......the upside down Christmas tree is up!  It's been a very busy week here and we just haven't had time. Now.......which cat will be the first to try and jump onto it from the top shelf?  I'm betting on Clay!

Wow---a busy adoption time.
Thursday:
Ina was adopted. We've seen her yesterday again and they sure do love her!
Boni and Tindle were adopted together! Boni was an Oxbow Lake kitten and Tindle was dropped off in the parking lot.

And then on Friday, the Persian adoptions started.
Marshmellow--Persian, went to a home that was long anticipated! Marshmellow, is now known as Molly.  She was visited weekly and so already knew her new family before leaving.
Arvin--Persian, was next to leave. His new name is Walter. We've seen pictures of him on FB and he definitely has fit in beautifully.
Pauly--adopted into a home where he picked his new family! I love when that happens.
Purrkins--Persian, her new mama was very excited to have this little girl
Moane & Lynn--Persians--went to our very own Lynnette who has been waiting since the day they were born to take them home!

Saturday:
London--went to his new home. He sure did cuddle in fast with his new family.
Mally & Shalimar--Persians--his mama and Godmother & Godfather all came to pick these kittens up! Another great home!

And more adoptions coming up!

The two newbies, Jericho and Jester are doing great. They are little purr machines. They are spending a little time in the new condos in the Purple Office just to reinforce litterbox usage. They love to play and are very happy.

We also took in a new little kitten. This little kitten has had a rough time. He was found in a barn, a stray of unknown history. What we do know is that he arrived with the largest poo-ball stuck to him--about the size of a grapefruit.  After much soaking, it was finally removed only to find his whole anal area, tummy and inside back legs severely red, open and seeping. Poor little guy couldn't even sit down.  He needed an extra strong name and so he was named Vincent Van Gogh.  He arrived 12/15 and his birthday is 10/3/17, making him 10 1/2 weeks old. He also had fleas and is thin. Today he is much better. With his med treatments, the redness is toned down somewhat and he can now sit softly! He will purr before he's even touched! Vincent Van Gogh is a long hair grey/white boy.

We had BOXES and Envelopes last night! What an awesome time! I thank you for your support.

Ming and Sunday adoption:
We had a very special adoption today. As many of you already know, Lori and family lost their precious Ming due to a brain tumor.  The grief is big for them and for many of our FFRC followers.  Sometimes it's just too hard, missing a cat that is gone and the need to have another one is strong. To me, I feel this is a way of honoring the love that was there for the departed cat and the family. So.....Lori and hubby came over already knowing which cat they wanted to adopt. And that was Tsakani.  I am thrilled about this. The "strange" thing about this is the day Lori called me about Ming, each time I thought of the family, Tsakani came to my mind. Lori has already emailed me and said that he cried a bit in the car but once they got home, he has been rubbing on them and walking around relaxed! I am thrilled for Tsakani and Lori's family.

And we have more thanks to give:
Fran D--donation to Feliz Navidad Fund in memory of Boy King Ming and in honor of his family
Pamela/cincycat from OH--a Christmas donation to FFRC
Gillian H from UK--a donation to FFRC (a lurker now for 5 years)
Dirk K from Germany--donation to FFRC (found FFRC by Stan's videos)
Lynne W--donation to FFRC
Christine C from WV--donation to FFRC
Heather U--donation to FFRC
Malcolm & Adrian and Spook & Dusky--donation in memory of sweet Ming
Amy W and Bob & Denis W--donation to FFRC in honor of Alma

Our goal:  to get the two Persian kittens here in the Main Area and then have the 2 mamas in the back Thumper's Room to get use to the kitties being gone. And then, we will intermingle them here in the Main Area too.  As soon as Paris and Purlissa are spayed, they will be going to their new homes.

So far, so good......no kitties have jumped on the tree......yet!  Have a wonderful week!

I would like to send a big thank you to the friends and family of Jeff Ford for their memorial donations to FFRC. He passed away just a couple weeks ago. He and his wife love cats and have visited FFRC.  These donations go toward the care of the cats.

Hitch---such a great kitten. He was adopted recently and has already made himself at home. "He is such a sweet fun boy and we just LOVE him to pieces". And he found a spot in their Christmas tree to play in! Remember how he loved getting into our big cheeseball containers?  They got him a smaller size and he still tries to squeeze in! He's a happy boy.

Tuesday is our HumaneOhio surgery date. It's a full schedule. This will be our last spay/neuter date for 2017.  And then........we start all over again!

We have 2 new kittens.  Jericho and Jester, both boys, found on a town road all by themselves. They are 10 weeks old with a birthday of 10/3/17.  They arrived 12/12. Jericho is a short hair grey and Jester is a long hair grey. Both are very sweet and are excited about coming up to the Main Area soon.  Won't be much longer. They've both been tested, distemper & bordetella vaccine done, wormed, bathed, ears cleaned and flea prevention applied. They arrived with fleas and a hungry belly but otherwise are fine and dandy.

Friendship. Fun. Laughter. Fun-Raiser.  This is what the Sardine Slurping Contest was all about. I am grateful to our friends, our volunteers, the LeChat sisters, the mods, the admins and to all those wonderful friends who participated whether it was thru tickets or by viewing the Contest.

Donna and I each ate 7 1/2 cans of sardines. Neither could go any further and so a tie was declared between the two of us.  We raised $2,250 from this event! I am thrilled about this and thankful.

Afterwards, we had the drawing for the bigger ticket items and then the consolation prizes. Those items are already being packed and sent on their way.

Both Donna and I felt rather punky Sunday evening and all day Monday.  But, today we are both feeling much better. I will say however, this was my first Sardine Slurping Contest and for sure it's my last! lol  It will be quite some time before I can eat another sardine. The cats will have to coax someone else for those treats! All in all though, it was a lot of fun and to raiser this money to help FFRC was the goal!

We have thanks to give:
Joco--she's a bumper upper for the Sardine Contest
Lana H--donation to FFRC
Josette M from France--donation to FFRC

We had an adoption on Sunday. Hitch was spotted by a family and knew that was the one! Hitch is the cat that hitched a ride to FFRC! A great cat.

FFRC's blog has earned a Top Cat Blog recognition! RankedBlogs.com ranks the top blogs in different categories based on votes, links from other sites and Twitter followers. So, we are pleased. You can visit rankedblogs.com/cat site.  The purpose of our blog:  "Friends of Felines Rescue Center's blog is an informative blog to keep our friends up to date with all the happenings--adoptions, incoming kittens/cats, surgeries done, events, happenings of the cats--filled with all sorts of FFRC news!".

All those that had surgery on Saturday have recovered very nicely. Today when I walked into the Persian Room, it seemed like they had sprouted overnight! They certainly are growing. Starting Friday, some of them will be leaving FFRC.  Another one of those happy/sad things but there is never any doubt that being in a home is so important.

Next Tuesday we will be having another spay/neuter day thru HumaneOhio.

Elsie alert!  Our sweet Elsie has figured out another thing to add to her WOW list! She has figured out how to get up on the countertop.  This is something that she did all on her own. A slight problem--her getting down. I've watched her--she is also learning the distance from the top to back down on the floor. I expect soon she will also be with no effort, jumping down by herself.

I want to resend a thank you for the donations sent to Fabio Fiver Friday. As you know, this was for medical expenses. Most of you already know, a particular litter that came from a sad situation, also brought in a new kind of virus to FFRC.  It's an old strain of virus but one that we have not experienced very often here. Many of the kittens came down with this which has resulted in major use of antibiotics. We just paid $4,000 to our main med supplier--with money from the Fabio Fund. Good news is there's no lasting effect from this virus. Everyone has or is recovering beautifully--thanks to meds, good vaccines, excellent food and good cleaning. We are now on the very tail end of this and soon it will be out of here.

Did you know Alma has a special "meow" for "I want water now please"?  Coralie has "that stare" that means she wants into the towel cabinet. Felicity has a certain spot where she likes to dine and frequently leads the volunteers to that special spot. Kiara appreciates the warm pillowcases on the yellow table--she likes to go inside them. Magic's little pat, pat, pat on the leg means "I need an ear scratch".  Two pats means he wants his special sparkly ball (for real!).  Pania has her very insistent meow that means "I need some Pania Flakes and/or Babycat nibbles".  And Ramsay--if he's heading over to the far side, he would like help with the water bowl. Derecho has that very soft meow that's reserved for "Need chicken please, very soon".  And Lucie--there's no doubt her big meow sound means that she is wanting that special serving of can food, just for her! And Asha knows all she has to do is to twist her head and look at us and she gets head rubbings!  And Camvie MUST be allowed to be with the dogs and follow them everywhere or she worries about them. Oh--and don't forget Binker--she appreciates having easy access to the windowledge so she can lay her head on it. Don't ask me why---she just enjoys it! Yes, they are all different, all happy and we strive to please them all!

Sunday, December 10, 2017

Surgery day for FFRC yesterday--was a rather intense day with lots of changes. But that's ok--afterall, it's all about the cats and kittens.

We did 9 males and 6 females.  This brings our total count for 2017 spays/neuters to 879.  It breaks down to 522 spays and 357 males.

The SPAYS we did were:
Marshmellow, Mally, Moana, Ina, Pipkin, Masana

The NEUTERS we did were:
Shalimar, Arvin, Tindle, Snowball, Snowy, Torgo, Toto, John and another male from the public.

We ended up not neutering Gene--he's got a bit of a cold. He's doing much better this morning. His energy level is up as is his appetite. And we also scratched a few spays---just didn't feel comfortable with their weights and their having to endure the anesthetic.  These drugs are powerful, the surgeries are elective, nothing that HAS to be done at that moment. So, we decided on the side of caution and postponed a few surgeries. We'll get them done soon enough.

Many thanks to Gusti for providing the drinks for our surgery day and to Joyce D for providing our lunch of pizzas

In addition, the Persian kitten's adoptions will happen next weekend instead of today. Dr. Darcy and I both feel more comfortable giving them one additional week for recovery and growing.

We have thanks to give! FFRC always has a grateful heart!
Kelly I--donation to FFRC
Olga B from NEtherlands--donation to FFRC on behalf of their cats Fred & Sasja
Cheryl B--donation to FFRC
Fran D--donation to Feliz Navidad Fund in memory of Trucker & in honor of Magic's birthday
Judith M--donation to FFRC

Today is our Sardine SLurping Contest!  1:00, right here at FFRC.  It's for fun but will also have the drawing at the end!

We have mama cat in front Thumper's Room--she is fine without her "kids".  Actually, she is not happy about the presence of the other cats and is hanging at the door.  I have a feeling she's been an outside cat--we shall see how/if she acclimates to being inside

FEMALES--Marshmellow, Mally, Paris, Lynn, Purrlisa, Moana, Ina, Pipkin, Rita, Masana

Keep in mind, we may not do all of the Persians. This will be decided Saturday morning.

Many many thanks to an anonymous friend for the condo unit that arrived yesterday afternoon.  It can hold 4 cats, has 3 levels--the top 2 are 2 pens each level--can make it so the top 2 become 1 larger pen.  The bottom level can hold towels, plates, food, spoons, Clorox wipes, etc.  We have it in the Purple Office and it will have many uses.  There are times when we have dearly needed extra holding areas, especially the last few months since our back Thumper's Room has been tied up with babies!  Sometimes when we are working on a whole litter of kittens, it's nice to have a place to put them for their treatments. Or sometimes a kitten needs quiet feeding times. Also can be used for post-op wake up time. So many uses!

Remember the Sardine Slurping Contest is Sunday at 1:00.  May the best sardine eater win!  Lots of big prizes and consolation prizes too, at the end!

Alright, alright.......I know some of you are wondering---who is that Gene that is on the surgery list.  Something happened--a real medical mystery.  It's called "Imogene" is "Oh My It's GENE".  Yep--one of those astounding medical mysteries---Gene goes on the boys list!  Here's what happened.  A visitor was holding Imogene and as usual, she climbed up on the shoulder. Her hiney was facing me and I saw "things" that were not girl related!  Could've knocked me over with a feather!  Gene is quite happy being a wonderful little boy!

Take care and have a wonderful weekend!
