Tuesday, January 31

Happy February! It's going to be a wonderful month. The floor workers have completed one full day. First, they scraped off the old floor and then roughened up the cement surface. Then the shiny surface was poured (clear, makes things adhere). After that, the first layer of blue quartz is applied. THis morning, the workers are here already and have removed the extra quartz. They then will pour a layer of epoxy, followed by another layer of quartz. This afternoon they will return and repeat the procedure. In the meantime, we're making do by all being in the front office. It's another warm day (crazy winter, that's for sure!), so the outdoor enclosure has it's door open already and many of the cats are out there cruising.

Yesterday, we had FiFi and Jaina visit the veterinarian's office. Fifi is now scheduled for her entropion surgery for Friday. Because her eyeballs are small (congenital), they are sunk back into the eye sockets which make her eyelids curl in. This may cause scratching on her eyes or get in the way of her already limited vision. So, this surgery should help her have a little more sight. Jaina is also scheduled to have her spay on Friday. She had her x-ray yesterday and does not have a hernia of the diaphragm. BUt she does have an enlarged heart. It's called hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). This simply means the muscular walls of the ventricles are abnormally thickened. The vet feels confident that surgery will be fine with her.

The cats seem a bit more happier than yesterday. Badu still gets upset once in a while, but is doing better. Jaina and Jacen have been playing like crazy. The cats are getting a good grooming today. Twinkle is becoming more sure of herself here in the front office. Georgia loves watching the birds at the feeders. Sari seems to have adjusted good to this move. Tweeny is now one of my desk friends. All is well.

Monday, January 30

It's very dusty here! The floor work has begun. Most of the cats have been fine, a few were very worried about the noise, but they all seem to be settling down now. Today, the "old" floor will be grated off and edges all cleaned. The first coat will be laid this afternoon with the color quartz on top. Yesterday we spent the majority of the day removing furniture and getting all the supplies boxed and moved. We had many volunteers that came in and helped with this enormous job. Last evening, we then wrote on the floor, the names of the people who helped make this floor possible! We thank all those that made a monetary donation, those who voted for us to help us win the $5,000 and those that cheered us on! We just got word that Saturday late or Sunday morning we could move back in! Right now, we have all the cats in the front office room. We added more furniture to give them more climbing space. We're a little squished, but we're happyp! It's also fairly nice out (40's and 50's) today and tomorrow, so we opened the outdoor enclosure porch flap. Here is a little ditty That Cyndiluwho sent me (it's to the tune of Home on the Range):

Give Jacci a floor
Where the spots are no more
And the cats won't get chips in their teeth

One that takes all the suds
And won't peel when it floods
And looks beautiful under her feet

Floor, wonderful floor
Where the kitties can scamper and run
Where volunteers mop
And the visitors stop
And the cammers can watch all the fun. Thanks Cyndi!

We also had an adoption on Saturday. Our sweet Ayla went to her new home. Telo will play fetch forever with you, if you toss his plastic ring! Badu is doing good in all all this change! Dr. Cindy has aged Sesame at approximately 10 years old. All the surgeries recovered nicely on Saturday. It's amazing how tiny their incision line is. Dr. Cindy feels that Cosimo is in the last stages of healing from a hit by car (hip/pelvis injury). Unfortunately, Cosimo took a nasty fall on Sunday and has re-injurerd his pelvis. So, for now, he's at a friend's house where there are no high shelves to climb on. Rest, rest, rest is what he needs...and no high climbing.

Saturday , Jan. 28

What a wonderful day Friday was! We had lots of visitors and such a nice time. Deb (from Continental), Nikkaross (from Mi), Val (from MI) and Leenie (from AK) was here. We also had a few volunteers drop in to meet them. The cats and kittens all enjoyed the extra attention. We had a big pizza supper, salad and dessert (Jodi says it was delicious too!). Nikkaross has been taking lots of pictures which she will share. Little Weasley and Dhana left last night and are currently on the jetplane on their way with Leenie to Seattle. From Seattle, they'll go to Alaska. I think it was instant love between the 3 of them! We also had another adoption yesterday--Hannah left! She went to a family that will be wonderful for her. She was a mush in the little girls' arms and purring her little sweet head off! I've heard back from Raina's new owners--all is fine and Raina seems happy.

Surgery day is today. We have Jake, Jaina, Promise, Fifi and Ayla scheduled. We have several adults that will be getting a physical from Dr. Cindy. Sesame has had his physical--looks healthy and aged at 10 years of age. Cosimo has also had his physical and is aged at 6 years of age. His occasional gimpy walk is probably due to a hit by car with a previous pelvis injury. Thanks to Dr. Cindy, Bonnie and Jodi for helping.

We had BOXES and cards last night! You all know how much we love that!
Skeetokins--Charmin Toilet Paper (our volunteers like this too!)
Tazzie--sent a dispenser for the larger TP rolls
Gemini--card and blankies
Mary B--Pill pockets for Farrah (a different flavor)
Stitches72--homemade cat toys and an awesome crown for Bella (will be shown in FB)
Kelly S in TN--valentine card for Farrah
Matt/Jane D in FL--card and donation
Eleanor F--Reeses, large cat ball, kitty snacks, cat toys, pens, bags to make shopping bags from, plates and blankies
Louis S. in WI--valentine card for Putter

Thank you so much for your gifts to the Rescue Center. You make a huge difference for us.

Just had an update from Leenie--she and the 2 kitties are over N. Dakota and all is well! The kitties are both napping in their pet carrier.

Thursday, Jan. 26

We won $1,000 from The Animal Rescue site! Still smiling about that! Now FFRC can pass on to you our next project. This $1,000 will go towards a need. It's as simple as this--we need a Storage Room (will have to come up with something better to call it then that though!). Since we had to move all of Earth Angel's supplies here into the Rescue Center, we are squished for space. We still do all of our surgeries here, so we have to have our supplies here. Every nook and cranny, cabinet, cupboard is full of very much needed supplies (food, TP, PT, formula, soap, vinegar, etc.), and we've become somewhta disorganized. A 8 by 12 foot storage room added onto the backside of the Rescue Center would be ideal. It would be filled with shelving units, top to bottom to help us be organized. Mr. Barth (his company built the Welcome Room, bathroom and Thumper's Room) has already been here and will give us a quote for this project.

We had ice today. This reminds me of something I wanted to pass on to you all. If our electricity goes out, the kitties will still be warm. We have an emergency heater on the wall that works without electricity. Will keep us as snug as can be in the Rescue Center!

Farrah and Paddy Cake love those plastic coil toys--they love to carry them around in their mouths while they chirp away! Telo's favorite toy are the plastic round rings. If you drop them on the floor, he'll come running to get them. Pocus and Dunakin so enjoy a little water drippping in the grooming tub--lots of fun to play in. Zelda is the biggest chirper cat I've ever heard. Her favorite saying is chirp, chirp, chirp--it's like that trill noise that cats make when they're happy. Raina will probbly be going to her new home today or tomorrow.

We had lots of BOXES last night! Thanks so very much--you all are very kind to the Rescue Center.
Leenie from AK--4 boxes of Mr. Clean magic erasers, 3 cases of Friskies pate, 3 cases of Friskies prime filets, a huge box of paper towels and toilet paper, case of paper plates.
Janak--3 cases of Fancy Feast Appetizers
Skeetokins--Arm & Hammer kitty litter
Jodianne87 from MI--2 huge boxes of Q-tips, coil toys, fish catnip toys, 2 stainless steel bowls, 2 LED flashlights with batteries, banana catnip toy, Bonito flakes, big bottle of L-Lysine, 7 boxes of long ear cleaners, and an emergency weather alert radio.

Three more days until we move all the furniture out to the trailer in prep for the new floor. Sunday will be fun for the cats after all items are moved out--they'll have wide open spaces to run and play. The people helping us today are: Stacey, Donna, Peggy, Christi, Paul, Lisa and Pat. Tune in tomorrow late afternoon to say farewell to Weasley and Dhana and to meet some of our webcam friends that will be visiting!

Weds., Jan. 25

Here's a few updates on the kitties and cats. LilliBeth will be returning to her mama owner on Saturday or Sunday! I am thrilled about this. They have a special bond and her mama is now feeling so much better than expected. She is so excited to get LilliBeth back. I'm happy for both of them. No leads on Sesame's whereabouts, so we have decided that he officially belongs now to FFRC. He's an awesome cat, loves people with a passion. He will get his medical physical on Saturday. Sari is on an official hold now! Details about her departure is not complete yet but she will be going into an awesome home.

This Saturday is our surgery day. We have Jacen, Jaina, Promise, Ayla and Fifi scheduled. That makes 4 girls and 1 boy. Dr. Cindy will also do a few physicals for us. On that list, so far, is Cutie, Sesame, Cosimo, Raina and Sari. We will also get Dr. Cindy's opinion on Fifi's eyes.

This Fridy is when Dhana and Weasley's Alaskan mama arrives. They will be flying to Alaska on Saturday INSIDE the cabin. Since these 2 kitties have become favorites for so many people, I've been asked to give some information about their trip, etc. Weasley arrived on 10/17/11 and Dhana arrived on 10/22/11. Both are the same size, same kind of fur and length and found in the same area. I am of the belief that they are sister/brother. They're birthdays are 9/18/11. Our volunteer fostered Weasley for us at the beginning for a couple weeks. He cried and cried, always seemed to be wanting something. In the meantime, Dhana had arrived. One day, Jodi needed to go away for the day so we kept Weasley. He immediately felt comfortable with Dhana and the other kittens, so from that point on, he stayed at FFRC. Leenie (their new mama) fell in love with them over our ustream cam. She admits it was love at first sight. She went on vacation, upon her return, they were both here still, their birthday is 2 days before hers--it had to be! So,for the first time, she will be visiting Ohio and claiming her kitties! We are thrilled for all 3 of them. It's a total of 2,617 miles that the kittens will travel to their forever home. Leenie will go from Detroit to Seattle to Ketchikan. You will all see her here Friday afternoon, along with Val, Nikkaross and a few others that will be visiting. Val is interested in adopting Jaina soon and Nikkaross loves them all!

Instead of boxes last night, we had a "kitty parade". I always like this when we can hold up the cats to the cam and get special requests for certain cats. Thanks for loving our rescue cats!

Tuesday, Jan. 24

We have now added another moderator to our ustream chat. The name is Napa and we welcome her. During this week, you may notice a few more additions to moderators for our ustream chat. Please remember to vote at The Animal Rescue Site. We have a strong hold on second place! I appreciate each and every vote.

All is fine here at the Rescue Center. Yesterday the people who helped were Lisa, Jimmy, Mary E, Ruth, Jackie S and Angie. County is doing wonderful. He's out and about more often and really enjoys being petted. Ayla and Promise have been on our "extra TLC" list and it's paid off. Both are loverbugs now! Ayla's leg wound has healed beautifully. Sari's appetite is sky high now! She's eating very well and filling out.

The cats have really been enjoying the birds who are eating heavily at the birdfeeders. Tweeny was found sleeping inside the red cabinet today. She decided the plates were comfortable to lay on. Jaina and Jaken are doing great. I think Jaken is going for the longest tail record. Farrah continues to be seizure-free. Sesame loves to lay on top of the refrig on a cushie. The big storage trailer has arrived a day early. This is where we will put all the furniture and things here in the Rescue Center when we have to move everything out.

We had 2 BOXES yesterday.
Bonnie P from CA--sent 12 cans of Bonito Flakes. The cats love these treats. That explains why I saw Octavia sleeping on that box earlier!
Bantryhill--a card, kitty ornament and a gorgeous hand-knitted blue sweater vest for me. I LOVE it and it's so soft. Also sent a big jar of ballpoint pens, postie notes and cat toys.

Thanks so much Bonnie and Bantry. I even modeled the vest! Keep checking in on the new website--fofrescue.org It's still a work in progress and it sure is wonderful!

First, I have some thank yous to give. We had a few BOXES to open on Saturday night.

DeEtte--3 cases of Fancy Feast
Socks & Clooney from Winnipeg--3 cases of Fancy Feast
Cobbis--3 cases of Friskies

Our food cabinet looks so much better! The kitties and cats can now eat! Thank you all for your support. The cats are singing your praises!

We've also heard back from Pawsome & Paulio's new dad. He loves them and calls them Prince and Princess.

Here's the tentative schedule for this week.
Today, Weasley & Dhana already made their trip to the vet's again. They passed their physical so they can go riding on the jetplane to Alaska on Friday with their new mama, Colleen!
On Wednesday, the trailer arrives. This will sit in the driveway for us to load up all the furniture from the rescue center later this week.
On Thursday, Friday, Saturday, a few pieces of furniture will be loaded each day.
Saturday is our surgery day. Dr. Cindy will be coming in to catch us up on the spays/neuters.
On Sunday, the remaining furniture will be moved into the truck. We will have wide open spaces here!
On Monday morning early, Mary E will help me get all the cats and kittens into either Thumper's Room or the big office.
Monday morning the floor work begins!! If all goes well, we will be able to move back in late Saturday or Sunday, 2/4-5.

Please remember to vote for us at The Animal Rescue Site. We are currently in 2nd place and hopefully will win $1,000 for the most votes for the second week! Voting continues until 3/18. Also remember to check out the fantastic new website at
fofrescue.org

Saturday, Jan. 21

What a busy day today was. We had an adoption! Our wonderful Bushca found a home. This family was originally going to take Merci, but Bushca planted herself on the new dad's lap and wouldn't budge, so they adopted her instead! We also now have a hold on Sari. Not sure when this adoption will take place, but she'll be going into a wonderful, loving home! So excited for Sari. In the meantime, before she leaves us, we'll enjoy her silly antics! Two bits of sad news to pass on. About 10 days ago, we lost our Loyal catfriend. He became jaundiced, which progressed rapidly. I'm so thankful he was here for those few weeks, to enjoy all the food, TLC and warmth that he wanted. We also lost Annakin this morning. This was another heartbreaker. We were obviously battling a virus, which we did not win. Never underestimate cat viruses.

We have now had the webcam for approx. 2 years and a few months. Especially in the last 6 months, we have made our rescue center personalized for you--our webcam friends. In doing this, you have learned our volunteer names, know many of the cats names and personalities and are a part of our every day life. The hard part of this is that when we have a cat that passes away, it is more personal to you, which can be hard. We have come to feel like you are all a part of our rescue family. Please know that during the good times and the sad times, we appreciate you. I love this rescue center and for as long as I am able, will run this rescue center to the best of my ability.

We also have 2 facebook pages that we promote and hope you get to visit! They are:
facebook.com/pages/Friends-of-Felines-Rescue-Center-Earth-Angels-Low-Cost-SpayNeuter-Clinic This is our main facebook. The chatters also have a facebook page which is
facebook.com/groups/253222744744856/ You can easily find both facebook pages by using these names. I am admin on both of these sites. People ask me about other facebook sites, but I have no control on any other pages. Please check these 2 facebook sites out and our blog for updates. Thank you.

Our new website has also been a big hit! It is fofrescue.org It still has a few things to tweak, but it's wonderful and awesome!

We also took in a new cat yesterday. His name is Sesame, he looks alot like our past Tonio (Siamese mix) and he's a mush of a cat! He was found inside a big semi truck that was delivering goods to Meijer's from out of town. They opened the doors and there was Sesame. So, they put him in a box and brought him to FFRC. He's probably a 8-9 year old boy who loves to nuzzle and suck on shirts and skin! He's the sweetest thing and we're all quite smitten by him already!

We had boxes last night! We are always ever so grateful for this support.

Sunny/Renee--sent a case of Friskies, a case of Fancy Feast and a big box of litter
DeEtte--a case of Friskies, a case of Fancy Feast, a case of Friskies gravy packets and a case of Temptation treats
The Hall Family (Subra, Baaka, Latte & Warren)--a bag of Wiskas, 2 big bags of treats, mouse toys, a case of Friskies and 2 white cushy beds
Thesixofus/Trace-mother to Socks and Clooney)--cat dancer toy

If I ever make a mistake in names or gifts, please don't hesitate to let me know.

We also showed the webcammers the very cool posters that Angie (a volunteer) has made. There's 2 beautiful posters for the Kitty City/Cat's Cove cats, 1 for the Sunpporch cats and 1 for the permanent FFRC residents. They are superb and will be put up soon. Thanks Angie.

January 20, Friday

It's time to get our blog restarted. As you may know, my dad passed away last week. I truly appreciate all the cards and concern you have shown. It's helped me get thru a very rough time in my life. Steve has also had his knee surgery and is doing fairly well. Physical therapy three times a week is tough but he's doing it! He says thanks for all his get well cards.

We had 2 adoptions yesterday. A wonderful gentleman came in looking for 2 catfriends to keep him company. He chose Pawsome and Paullio. I think these 2 cats are very lucky to have this home and I know they will be well loved. A week from today (Friday the 27th) we will have webcam visitors, including Colleen for Weasley and Dhana! A fun day! On Saturday the 28th we will have a surgery day. Surgeries will be done by Dr. Cindy.

Because I have been so busy with my family, I had gotten behind opening boxes, but slowly but surely, I'm getting caught up!

Something new and very exciting will be happening soon!

Something new and very exciting will be happening soon! The new website is almost ready for your viewing and I guarantee that you will love it! More about this real soon. TODAY is the day to start voting! It's a new year, so the slate is clean. We could possibly win the state at $1,000 or possibly the grand prize again at $5,000. Please vote at tinyurl.com/ffrcvote Our votes will add up!

We had an adoption yesterday. Cinnabon went to his new home. He will be well pampered. That makes 5 adoptions so far this month. Our 3 new little ones are doing great. They have names! The black one is Jacen. The brown tiger is Annakin. The brown tiger/torti is Jaina. These names came from Tommy and are Star War names.Won't be long until these kittens are running with the rest of the cats.

We have had a lot of visitors lately--something we enjoy and the cats certainly enjoy also. After all, more people means more petting!
Jobo--sent 2 cases of cat food
Catlady (who adopted Haskins) sent a big box with the crinkle paper that's really a toy, a big bed, and 2 beautiful garden art pieces. She also never comes without some goodies for us to share!
Michlynn and Siamesemich sent appetizers, fancy feast, rug, cat treats, q-tips, and an envelope with a donation.
Medic/Laura--2 boxes of fancy feast

During this extra busy time for me, with my Dad and Steve's knee surgery, forgive me if I get behind on thank yous and e-mails. My dear friend Kate flew in yesterday as a total surprise to me. She is here this week while my family and I are extra busy. She will also be transporting Dhana and Weasley to Bryan this week for their physical for their airplane trip. I'd also like to say thank you for your prayers and good wishes during this difficult time for my family.

One of the reasons I may be disorganized this week is I have lost some of my notes. I keep finding them on the floor all chewed up. Today I discovered who is doing this--Hettie! I've asked her to not do this, but we'll see. Something tells me she is not going to listen! Ayla was playing with another kitten yesterday--very nice to see. Emaline thoroughly groomed Weasley, head to tail. Asha's new nickname is LoveBug. One of the biggest lapsitters here is Pawsome--he loves attention. Please remember to vote!

Jan 7 Saturday

The cats are super excited this morning. My sister Judy always brings them hambones when they hav a ham meal. The kittens and cats LOVE this! What at first looks like alot of meat on that bone, quickly becomes just a bone! Keeps them entertained for a long time. Cinnabon and Picasso are now my new desk friends. They insist on learning typing skills which makes my typing much slower--but they have fun. Poor Putter has a bit of a tummyache. We are treating him and hopefully he'll be feeling better today. Twinkle is looking good and has a great appetite. Sari also knows how to eat good--her normal is to have 2 breakfasts! Holly is at the moment sleeping on the big hammock that is in Dodger's Pen. Those 2 hammocks have become favorite napping areas.

Lots of changes are happening at the Rescue Center. Soon you will be able to see the new website-how very exciting. I believe you all will be thrilled! Many many dozens of hours have gone into it. We will also be meeting soon for our first Advisory Board. This is designed to take a little workload from me. Jan. 30th is still the scheduled date for the beginning of the new floor. I actually took 2 pieces of floor away from Kiara--she was walking around with chips in her mouth. Not eating them, just carrying them around.

Year end stats are done.

Jan. 5 Thursday

We had TWO adoptions yesterday! Wiffin went to his new home. He's going to be the sole attention of a lady who has been so excited to adopt him! Birka also went to her new home yesterday. She went to a new dad that has been wanting a shoulder-riding cat. You all know how Birka loves to shoulder ride! The people that helped us yesterday were: Jodi, Mary E, Stacey, Jimmy, Gregg, Judy E, Connie. Extra thanks to Jodi and Linda T for giving more of their time for the rescue center while I have been so busy with my family matters. It has now been 20 weeks since Farrah has had a seizure. I'm so happy for her! Maybe we'll be able to get her a home of her own yet! Little Hannah was playing with a stuffed mouse this morning, yowling and yowling at it--fun to watch. Sari is getting so brave--she's exploring everywhere now.FiFi went way up high this morning on a catwalk and had to be rescued. She then got some hugs. Putter is doing good. He got the "poodle cut" on his feet this week. It helps alot to keep his paws clean of litter.

We had BOXES last night! So nice and fun and appreciated!

Jan. 4 Weds
Soon, the blogs will be more consistent and thru our new website for all to see more easily! Big changes are happening with our new site--check it out daily to see the progress. The new website is fofrescue.org We have many people participating in the rebuilding, but one friend in particular-Lenz is his chat name. Volunteers are busily taking awesome pictures to add to the new site, Eric is working on videos, lots of ideas coming in. When my time permits, I want to add the story of how FFRC began.

The cats and kittens here are all doing great. Cosimo is out and about more--actually he's here in the office with me right now! Peverley is playing with one of the new wool toys. Cinnabon is stretched out here on the desk making him look 3 feet long. Tweeney is busy dragging a feather toy about and pretending it's alive. Zelda is snoozing away in my lap while Ernestine is on the cat furniture watching the kittens play. All is well! The people that helped us yesterday were Judy S, Judy M, Stacey, Paul, Caity, Dorothy, Dee, Martha L, Brenda. Dee took Tasco home yesterday for a trial run. Will keep you posted. I've heard from Jolly and Adora's new owners. Both are doing great. Georgia and Dunakin were playing full steam yesterday--lots of energy chasing each other back and forth. Raza and her boy Telo frequently take naps together--very sweet to see.

We had ENVELOPES last night!

Jan. 2 Monday

What a huge, wonderful surprise I had yesterday. We have the floor work to begin on Jan. 30th. I had to commit to a date due to the time it takes to get the color we wanted for the new floor and to reserve a HUGE trailer to put all the rescue center's furniture in. The cost is $9,600. The money we won for the PetFinder site is reserved for the floor which left us with almost $5,000 left to raise. Unknown to me, the webcammers SOLD the floor! Yes, sold the floor! The floor was divided into square feet and sold for $14 a square. All the squares were sold, which gave the rescue center a money amount of $5,000. I was completely unaware that this was going on (due to the surprise FFRC facebook). And I truly was shocked, surprised and bursting with gratitude! I've said it before and I still say it again. This rescue center has the most compassionate, giving people anywhere. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. One less thing to worry about! We truly have made friends all over the world and have become a cyberspace family together. Thank you.

FYI: my dad is not doing well, so I will be even more involved with his care. Please be patient if I'm not here as much or get behind on e-mails. We also have the best volunteers in the world as they will do a terrific job while I'm absent.

Sunday Jan. 1

Happy New Year to everyone. We had a wonderful Happy New Year's party from the cats to all the webcam viewers. At 4:30 we unveiled a Happy New Year tree--full of shiny glittery things and paper chains. The cats of course proceeded to dismantle it, which was perfectly fine. The cats also had a BIG sign they wanted us to hold up to the viewers thanking them for their support. There was plenty of catnip and bonito flakes to go around. We even got the bubble making machine out and had bubbles going everywhere. Needles to say, the cats and the humans all had fun!

Adora was adopted yesterday--she went to a home where the people were so excited about having her. The new big orange/white cat now has a name. It's Cosimo (means universe, harmony in Italian). He will be leaving Thumper's Room today and coming into the main area, probably going into Patience's Pen for a day or two.

Update on the Paddy World Tour. He is still in the UK for one more visit then will be traveling abroad to a new location. He has made 11 stops so far.

Keep an eye on the new website for the rescue center. fofrescue.org New things are happening daily to it!

We had a BOX last night. Thank you so much for your support.
Annette S from Campbell OH--a grilling cookbook for Steve, a gift for ohiomrspeepers, a t-shirt for me that said "Faces of Animal Rescue" with lots of cute cat pics all over it. Also included were many 2012 calendars for the volunteers. I know the volunteers will appreciate this also.
