Monday, March 2, 2020

Let's catch up on spaying and neutering!  We've had 2 surgery events ---Saturday and today.

Saturday was our FFRC surgery day. Because our cats and kittens were already spayed/neutered except for those that are too small, we opened 2/29 up for public neuters!  We did 24 male cats, 1 dog spay (belonging to an FFRC person) and 1 FFRC cat spay.   This came to 26 surgeries for 2/29!  Our total then was 208.

Many thanks to Gusti for supplying drinks for surgery.  Big thanks too to Joyce D for supplying pizza and bread sticks for our lunch.

Today, Monday was our HumaneOhio surgery day. We sent up 36 cats--27 females and 9 males.  Our total now for 2020 is 133 spays, 110 neuterrs, making for 244 surgeries (includes 1 dog).

We have had an adoption! Imelda went to her new home. She left on 2/29 and went into a home with one other cat.

We have taken on 3 new cats--2 kittens and 1 adult.
Brooke--she is a torti/calico/tiger mix. She arrived at 2/28/20. She is 1 1/2 years old with a birthday of 8/20/18. She was found in a yard and the family brought her to FFRC.  They said she is "super
sweet".  She was spayed on Saturday, here at FFRC.

Cary and Kinsley--arrived on 2/29 at 13 weeks old.  Birthdays are 12/1/19.  These boys were found in a barn--arrived by themselves.  The lady who found them was kind enough to want them neutered.  But because of several health issues, she relinquished them to FFRC.  Cary is a brown tiger.  Kinsley (meaning King's Meadow) is black with a white diamond on chest and lower tummy.

A spontaneous fun-raiser was formed yesterday.  You see, we had just paid off a major big medical supply bill just a few days ago--it was a whopper--$4150.  But, it's paid!  And then these last 5 cats/kittens that arrived have had major medical problems. So......it just happened........and Medicinal Monday was formed!  Anyone wanting to donate $5 or more to FFRC to help with these latest medical issues, you can!  You can send a check or use paypal!
Here's what happened:
Brooke--had a rough spay.  She is on soreness meds and antibiotics.  She also has received fluids.

Cary and Kinsley--they have quite a few things they need help with:  herpes, conjunctivitis, sinusitis, severe ear mites, URI.  They are on a long acting antibiotic, daily antibiotic, nasal drops, eye ointments, ear mite medication & ear flush

These you may know about already:
Gracie Goldmine---she is on a long acting antibiotic, daily antibiotic, ear mite daily medication and soreness meds. . Her abscess has been drained 4 times now and she has the possibility of having to have it lanced yet. Because of her being deserted in an abandoned home, she was rather stinky--took 2 bubble baths to get her clean and good smelling.

Minerva--Dr. Darcy gave her a physical Saturday. Minerva is an oldster for sure. She has many teeth missing and the remaining teeth do not look good. She came in emaciated and dehydrated.  Her right ear was bloody inside. Her right eye has herpes and is very scarred. Her back legs are very stiff--she sometimes wobbles because of that.  She has a major URI, had a bad flea infestation. Plus she was very dirty.  She has received a long acting antibiotic, is receiving daily antibiotics, soreness meds, anti-inflammatory med and was being given fluids but is now eating better on her own.  Her fleas are gone.  She is receiving eye medications, ear medications.  She probably feels like she's having a major overhaul!  Her eating is starting to pick up.  She has put on a few ounces but is still so very thin.

All of these 5 cats have put a dent into our medical supplies which is what prompted the Medicinal Monday.  I have been overwhelmed by the support.  I am always grateful for each and every single person that helps us with a donation, sends good thoughts or prayers, those that give us emotional support and those that send or bring supplies. YOU are appreciated.  YOU give me hope.  YOU make me want to be a better person and cat rescuer.  YOU make a huge difference to FFRC. And I thank you. And so does Brook, Cary and Kinsley, Gracie Goldie and especially Minerva who needs so much help.

We have thanks to give!
