And yet, another new cat. Her name is Kayala (kay-ah-la), a Name a Cat name. This was a cat that was dropped up (we are thinking so) on the property. We almost had her Monday morning but she was just elusive enough to stay outside of our reach. We were hoping to get her so we could send up to HumaneOhio for a spay.  Kayala is a torti, about 1 1/2 years old with a birthday of 10/4/17. Traps were set yesterday and sure enough, she was in one this morning.  She was taken to the front Thumper's Room and released, knowing she was not feral. This sweetie is like a velcro girl--loves to be petted. She was so very hungry and downed an entire can of food very quickly.

We have worked hard on this property for many many years to keep all the cats spayed and neutered. So far this year, we know of 3 cats that have appeared.  This is just heartbreaking for me. It's taken alot of work to be 100% spayed/neutered here and all it would take is one pregnant cat to have her babies here to make the population grow quickly. To just randomly drop off cats is totally irresponsible. Sometimes the cats leave, sometimes they get hit by a car, sometimes they are not country smart and get attacked by wild animals.

We have also taken back an FFRC cat.  His name is Boaz--pronounced Boe-az. He originally arrived when he was 12 weeks old and was adopted on 12/6/18. He's just a big kitten in a big body--he's still technically a kitten, will be 1 years old in June. Everything is great with Boaz--he was just a bit too "kittish"/rambunctious for this family.

We have moved Citrine and Enola in the back Thumper's Room. They are both doing great and love the attention. In a couple days, maybe they will be ready to come up to the Main Area.

We had HumaneOhio yesterday. We sent up 45 cats and 1 dog.  The dog was my grand-dog, a male. The 45 cats broke down to 22 males and 23 females. This now brings our grand 2019 total to 387 cats and 1 dog.   The total breaks down to 211 females and 176 males. We have for 2018 at the same time, a total of 320. That means we are up 67 cats so far.

I've been asked about Farrah and what happened at the end of Boxes yesterday.  She had started to vomit and looked like she was going to go down so she was taken to the front Thumper's Room. She immediately went down 3 different times, each time getting up again. The last time she stayed up.  It's unknown whether this vomiting triggered something with her heart or not. But, she recovered quickly, respirations became normal again as did her heartrate.  Today she is back to being Farrah.

On Monday starts our next Fun-Raiser! We have 8 items again--all really nice with some items being different than what we've done before!  It ends on 4/25 at 9 am. BOXES will be that afternoon at 3:00 with the drawing immediately after that.

We had BOXES yesterday. Again, I am in awe of your generosity. And always thankful---always.

We've heard from the family that adopted Desi. He is now called Oliver.  "He is fully adjusted to our household now. He is so loving and frequently cuddles with me when I am sitting in my chair. Oliver and Baron (Kubu) have finally remembered one another. They have been wrestling around and both absolutely love to play. Oliver loves the automatic laser that I have. Both Baron and Oliver are doing great! They absolutely love to look out the window and lay on my desk."  All is well with our 2 FFRC boys!

We've also heard from the family that adopted Koda. "Our handsome Charlie/Koda has been with us now for over 2 years! He will have his 3rd birthday on 5/4 and we love him so very much."  Sounds like things are good in Koda's world!

Take care all and have a great evening.

Sunday, April 14, 2019

We got quite a bit of the painting done yesterday, along with some help with the cats. And of course, it had to be the black cats that got some of their fur in the wet paint!  Manville seemed to be trying to turn himself into a tuxedo cat!  No worries though, we've got most off of the cats now!

We got the ceiling painted in the Paddy's Place room, June's Room and the Kitty Campus Room. We also got about half done of the Main Area's ceiling.  Everything got 2 coats--soaked it right up. And it looks really nice and clean!  Many thanks to Eric M, Mary Braid and Pablo for their help.  And also to Connie D, who was cleaning and was so patient with us all getting in her way!  We'll get the other half of Main Area and the Welcome Room done soon!

Tomorrow will be a busy day. We have a board meeting at 3:00. Also we have our next HumaneOhio spay/neuter day.  As always, check ins are between 5:30-6 am.  Check outs are usually around 5:30-ish pm.

We took on a new cat from Dr. P's office yesterday.  She arrived at their office on Thursday with a very large laceration from her lip, up her nose, clear to her eye--sliced completely open and flapping.  Dr. Darcy did her suture repair on Friday and did an awesome job of it.  It looks beautiful now and all together.  She arrived here yesterday. Her name is Enola. She's a beautiful black/white cat.  She's cruising about in the front THumper's Room.

We've had 3 more adoptions!
Frank went to his new home on 4/12. He went to a great home, where they had been preparing for him for 3 weeks. He's the first of the 8 kittens to leave.

Lorry and Tenzin also were adopted, together!  They went to a family that has had 3 cats always but recently, they lost their last one as an oldster. They decided Lorry and Tenzin would be perfect for them!

Update on Farrah--she is adjusting to her new meds.  The first couple days on her new treatment plan was a little rough for her. But she seems to be back!  She's eating good now and is acting like her self--our wonderful Farrah girl!

Paw Paw is doing wonderful. He's such a happy oldster. His fur is grown out and it's so nice--he will never be body shaved here! Ramsay loves to be on the "brown box toy"!  He reaches down inside it and plays with the kittens--he so enjoys this! Dingie, our oldster Porchie is also doing well. He's amazing!

The Covie cats are doing great!  We've been working on their yard to get the winter debris/acorns raked up.  The new trees in their playground area are looking good.  They have a few new cots and outside beds that they are already enjoying!

We have thanks to give!
Jody J--donation to FFRC for Bonnie's 3rd birthday
Gusti--donation to FFRC for Rosemary's birthday

Update on Farrah. Most of you have already heard, but briefly what happened to Farrah on Sunday afternoon: That cardiomyophy embolism has happened to Farrah. Most clots settle in the brain or heart or the pelvis saddle. All can cause instant death. All cause pain because of the shut off of the blood vessels. A clue that it's a pelvis saddle clot is that the front feet are still warm, the rear feet are cold, feet "knuckle" under and there's pain.....most times lots of pain. We were lucky to have pulled Farrah out of the crisis. Connie D was here and she immediately got me. I text and called Dr. Darcy right away. We are fortunate to keep meds on hand for such an occasion. But, sometimes meds are not enough. This morning she is much better--her gait is slightly off the rear feet and she's pretty quiet, but things have definitely improved. This is a life changing event for her and will always be on certain medications to hopefully prevent this from happening again. Thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers to help with her recovery.
Newest Update: Farrah has an appt. with the cardiologist tomorrow, Tuesday at 9:00. She and I will be heading to Fort Wayne in the morning. We'll give a report tomorrow to you all.
We have thanks to give:

Tara M--donation in honor of Ann P, for her birthday

Citrine--gold/white. She was found at the Independence Dam and really needed a safe place to be. She is 1 1/2 years old, born 10/3/17. She's a sweet girl and should be in the Main Area soon. A Name a Cat name. She was also mentioned on Sunday's blog.
Debbnie--black tiger. She was abandoned by a family that moved away and put her outside. Someone knew what happened and brought her here. She's 1 1/2 years old. Her birthday is 10/2/17. One of those true black tigers--very beautiful. A Name a Cat name.
Jaba--white & grey. She had been hanging out in an apartment area for a week--manager says the cat must go today. She's a bit thin, has earmites and a fractured upper right canine. Jaba is 1 year old and has a birthday of 4/3/18. A Name a Cat name.
We had 3 adoptions yesterday. Monique's kittens and all 6 inkies are now adopted!
Mabel--went to a home that has been waiting for her! I heard from the new mama today and she is meeting her other cat friends--things going pretty smooth! She is such a sweetie.

Oliver Taylor Blackwell's e-collar is now off. He's a wonder! He jumps, runs, climbs--I believe he must have 5 legs instead of just 3! His sutures will be removed tomorrow.

Short blog.......busy day!

Thursday, April 11, 2019 & Catathon Update

Another adoption!  Jaba was adopted.....actually by the family that really owned her.  And she's already spayed!  She's back home and all is good.

Citrine is coming out of her pen more and more.  We leave her condo pen open with a Kuranda Tower in front of it. She roams in and out thru out the day. She's in the front Thumper's Room.  We're hoping soon she will be ready to come up front!

Oliver Taylor Blackwell's sutures are now out.  I believe instead of losing a leg, he gained wings.  That boy can fly! And he's so agile and smooth.  What a really nice kitten!

We have been busy outside getting things set for Spring. Happy day--the windchimes are hanging up again and look so pretty!  The blue table and chairs are at the entrance door--waiting now for visitors and volunteers to sit and chat. The red heat lamps are unplugged but ready for next winter. The shelter house is beginning to be set for the warm weather too.  Love this time of year!

Farrah is doing good.  I can tell she's a bit more quiet this week. Her body is probably adjusting to her new med program. Her respirations/color/heart rate are all good.  There is no doubt she is a survivor and a fighter. And she knows she is so well loved by all of us.

Our Quickie Flash Sale on Tuesday was wonderful. It made $547 for FFRC. And the neat thing about this is, our one flea prevention bill is almost exactly that amount!  Many thanks for making this payment!  Big thanks too to everyone who donated those items, those that bought the items and to Lynnette and Marcia.

I've heard from quite a few of the Abel Inkies. Sounds like all are doing great and have adjusted to their new homes very quickly. Best news is that they are all feeling good!

Sunday, April 7, 2019

Yesterday was an FFRC surgery day.  We did 31 surgeries--this broke down to 5 females and 26 males.  Of that, FFRC had 3 females and 4 males.  The rest were public cats--2 females and 22 males.

Our total so far for 2019 is 342.  The number for 2018 at that time was 318.

Dr. Darcy checked Mowgli over again. She had already seen her close to her arrival time here.  Here is her update: as suspected, she too feels her tongue problem has been caused by something caustic.--something that has caused her tongue to corrode from a chemical action.  Initially, we thought something might have been around her tongue, which proved untrue as nothing was found to be caught in her mouth.  Cancer also crossed our minds, but thankfully, that is not an issue.  As her tongue has undergone different stages of "looks", it does indeed seem to be from something that has corroded her tongue.

A tongue is not something you want to cut, because of the many blood vessels involved. With Mowgli's tongue, she is simply sloughing away the bad tissue.  This happens slowly, so the blood vessels are sealed off as the process continues. This all takes time. In the meantime, she is receiving anti-inflammatories, soreness meds and antibiotics. She is amazing and so very tolerant. And sooooo loves to eat!

Many thanks to Joyce D and to Gusti for providing drinks and pizza for surgery yesterday--so very kind!

One of the most beautiful sounds, to me, is the morning song of the birds.  They started this morning about 6:25--truly a wonderful song! And their background sound are the roosters crowing!

We had BOXES on Thursday. Big time thanks!

We had another adoption!  Feather went to her new home. Actually, we went back to the home where the lady had found her outside, pregnant and very close to giving birth. This new mama has visited her 1-2 times weekly since she brought her here.

Today, we should have 3 more adoptions, this morning!

Tomorrow or Tuesday, Oliver Taylor Blackwell will have his sutures removed.
Tuesday will be a Quickie Flash Sale.

We took on a new cat Friday.  Her name is Citrine. She was found at the Independence Dam and brought to FFRC.  She's a pretty gold & white female, about 1 1/2 years old. Her birthday is 10/3/17.  We had her spayed yesterday. She is recuperating in the front Thumper's Room.

Sasekani and the 8 kittens are now in the Main Area. They get their extra meals and take their naps in Paddys Place.  They've adjusted real well.  These 8 kittens are so full of energy--they can fly! All are so very sweet. For the first time in a very long time, the back Thumper's Room is shut down.

Weds. April 3,2019

Windows are open and the furnace is off! We all love having the windows open--so fresh! The next few days look like lots of rain--spring flowers will be blooming!

Updates:
Oliver Taylor Blackwell is one special kitten. Absolutely a real sweet boy.  He already is agile and climbing and jumping. He just now jumped up into my lap and is laying in my lap. His purr motor works real good.  His sutures will come out on Tuesday. His eye looks like it's slowly absorbing the blood. No damage to the eye itself is noted.

Muru is coming along. She has already gained a bit over a pound. We are no longer syringe feeding her but keeping an eye to make sure she continues to eat and drink.  She so loves to be petted.

Victoria has come out of her quietness and so loves people!  What a beautiful torti she is. She waits for us to go by her, rolls over and wants a tummy rub.

Lancelot--I've heard from his new mama. All is good. Baby food wins again!  She taps the lid of the baby food jar and he comes a-running! He's still shy but enjoys his baby food time with his new mom. And he loves the windows!

Singita is now in her new home too!  Her name has been changed back to her original name of Ivana. I'm so happy to say that she is playing and eating just fine. The other cats in the home are all adjusting nicely to her. She even gets the zoomies and runs around!

Our surgery day on Saturday, is an FFRC surgery event.  Because we do not have many FFRC cats to do, we have opened it up to the public.  We will be doing 2 of our females--Sabel and Sasekani.  We will also do a volunteer's female cat. Plus, Ozzie, my granddog will be neutered.  There's a real possibility that we will neuter our 4 young kittens in the back Thumper's Room--Deano, Frank, Sammy and Calvin.

And then, we will also be doing 20 public male cats! Anytime we have extra room on the surgery schedule, it's good to open the door to more!  We had these 20 slots filled within an hour.

We have thanks to give, as we had BOXES on Monday.

More adoptions coming up! On Sunday, we have 3 scheduled--Mabel, Sabel and Cornelio!

Monday, April 1, 2019

Today is a mighty fine day--it's a spay/neuter day!  We sent up 40 cats--31 females and 9 males! Hoping to make a dent in the overpopulation problem.  This is the time of year to get those cats spayed and neutered.  All kittens born in the spring has a possibility of having kittens themselves in the late fall---please don't let this happen. And all females born this past fall, can have litters NOW....in the spring.  We have seen many that have their first heats at 4 months old.  From beginning spring to late fall, a cat can possibly have 4 litters.

This 40 surgeries, now brings our total for 2019 to 311----183 spays and 128 neuters.

We have thanks to give:
Daisy M--dog of Craig & Marianne--sent a donation for treats for the cats!
Harm B--donation to FFRC
BillieK--donation to help with Muru and Oliver Taylor Blackwell's medical needs
Lorene B--donation to FFRC
Janet S & Harley--donation to FFRC
Julie--in memory of her Aunt Linda A--2 cases FF Kitten, spring toys & baby cat dry food

We have more adoptions too!
Singita--our FFRC friends, Tammy and Keith, were here for the weekend. Singita has been waiting to become a part of their family! They brought their RV, so Singita was able to ride comfortably with them. She will join their other cats in the family!

Lancelot--was adopted 3/18.  That was the morning the electricians were here and we had to clear out the Main Area, so his adoption was done off cam.  I've heard now twice about him. Lancelot is a bit shy, as we knew he would be, but the new owner is winning him over with snackers of baby food! He is also fascinated with the TV!

Muru is doing better.  She is edging more to the 4 pound mark now. We are still syringe feeding her often but, today she is starting to eat a bit by herself. Such a beauty and with a sweet disposition.

Oliver Taylor Blackwell is in the Main Area, sporting an e-collar.  Won't be long before he can cruise about without that collar.  He's doing very well--is agile and can run and play. He still has some  soreness but that is getting better too each day. A really nice kitten.

Victoria and Feather were sent to HumaneOhio today for their spays.  Feather will be adopted this week later. After Victoria has recovered, she will come up to the Main Area.

Do you walk?  Jog?  Ride a bike?  Those miles that you do can benefit FFRC by registering with ResQwalk.  It's a free mobile app that lets you raise money for FFRC! Download it today to your phone and start walking!

Tuesday will be a Quick Flash Sale at noon!  New items!  Come join the fun--on the cam!

Catathon is 83 days away! We are getting organized! We'd love it if anyone is interested in donating items towards Catathon, that we have items in by May 21.  The reason is that lots of has to happen after that date--each and every basket and entry has to be written in detail and pictures taken.  Then all of this info will need to be put into our website for your viewing pleasure!

We love our Giggles Scenes and we're now at #38! Production by FFRC Captures and Captions, Directed by Derecho, Assisted by Auntie Kathy.
