Tuesday, March 12

What a busy day we had here yesterday. Visitors, painting, boxes, tending to the cats, treatments, etc. Kept us hopping yesterday. We do have two cats that are not feeling well. Our sweetie Sprint, one of the new black/white kittens is sick. He came down with a virus. Sunday night was kinda punky, Monday morning ate a little, then progressively got worse as the day went on. Meds given, fluids given, kisses given. This is the kitten that likes to meow big time. Today, he's just slightly better. We are continuing treatment. We've moved him into June's Room, where it's a quieter room. He's resting more peacefully.

Buffy is also a bit under the weather. He is a Covie cat. Buffy has been with us since a young cat. He had a couple rough days last week, but has been eating good. Yesterday afternoon we noticed he was most definitely not doing well. He was unable to stand--kept toppling over, had diarrhea, very dilated eyes. Meds given, fluids given and kisses given again. This morning, he too is somewhat better. Can stay upright without falling. Perhaps a possible stroke? He's here in Thumper's Room, resting quietly.

Joyful, joyful, we adore you! Yes, we love our Joyful cat. She is s l o w l y enjoying all the attention and pets/kisses! It thrills us at her acceptance of us.

Check out our Website at fofrescue.org. We have added a new page, called "Welcome to FFRC". Thanks Janet/Janak for doing this page. More new pages and items coming up real soon!

I wanted to update on on an "happening" here at FFRC. As you know, FFRC continues to grow. In the past couple years, I have become overloaded with trying to keep up. Even with putting in 15-16 hour days, every day, I'm not keeping up. Our volunteers are priceless to me. They are the backbone of this Rescue Center. But, in the meantime, I have been feeling overwhelmed in trying to keep up. As of yesterday, Lynnette will be helping. She will be here several days of the week, doing bookwork, ordering items, helping with phone calls, basically helping me with whatever is needed. Lynnette and I have worked together off and on for almost 20 years. We've worked at a vet's office together, I hired her as an assistant to our Earth Angel clinic, and then she's been helping with cleaning, here in the Rescue Center. Now, she'll be switching gears  and helping in a different capacity. My goal? Simply to give me some breathing space!! I truly believe we have an awesome group of volunteers and people that are helping to run this Rescue Center!

Our room, the Cat's Corner Room, is now almost done. The final details will go up today. It's our way of doing spring cleaning--repainting. It's been many years since things have been painted. On to June's Room, which will be the butterfly room!

This Friday at 6 pm will start our next auction and will end at 6 pm on Saturday (FFRC time!). We will have a baby afghan and a beautiful cream, brown and green afghan.

Please remember to vote! I thank you for every vote that we receive. We have raised the margin just a tiny bit to .18% ahead of the second place team. The cats and I are grateful!

Never a dull moment here. Just got a phone call, wondering if I knew of someone missing two horses. Ummmm, yes, that would be us here. Georgia and Mercy got thru the side farm fence and went traveling. They came back peacefully!

Cutie has already begun her spring cleaning of the kittens here! (This pictures was taken last year.)

Sunday, March 10

Solee has discovered she has springs for legs--she's always bouncing around with such a spring in her walk. And she loves the spring toys! Very determined to find them when they become "lost". Zelda and Kiara are sleeping on my desk. I sometimes think I need two desks--one for me to be able to work and one for the cats to lounge on. Charmaine is cruising about here in the office--such a graceful beauty. She loves to be loved on. Asha is laying "like a loaf of bread" watching all the kitties playing. Bev just swatted Snappy, who in turn jumped on Sprint! Never a dull moment!

We had BOXES last night. Many thanks to these wonderful donors.

Our auction was completed last night at 6pm sharp! The winning bid on the 3 rugs was $390 and was placed by Janice/Janarama001. Thanks to Connie S/Warped for these wonderful rugs. The winning bid on the Cat Tapestry afghgan was $325 and was placed by Gusti. In a wonderful gesture, she purchased this as a gift for CJ/cgcry. This auction raised $715 which is awesome! I am so thankful. We had a total of 60 bids, placed by approximately 15 different people! Fun!

Our artist friend, Wanda, has now donated $312 to FFRC. For each portrait that she does for an FFRC friend, she donates $50 (plus an extra bit on one of the pics!). Wanda is extremely gifted. Please check out her site at: portraitsbywanda.com

Today is Raza's birthday! She arrived here on 3/15/11 and was very pregnant. Her kittens were born 3/29, 5 boys and 1 girl. She is now three years old and is destined to go to Washington to be with her new mama in the early fall! Happy Birthday, Raza.

The Kabana Room has given us the "spring fling spruce up mode". It's been many years since we've repainted our catwalks and trim in the rooms. So...........the spruce up has begun. As you know, our front office is now lavender. It's so pretty--I love it. The cat walks, a piece of furniture, door frames and heart designs are all newly painted lavender. Now, we are working on Cat's Corner Room. This is traditionally been known as the kitten room. So, the colors are pink and blue! The window trim, door frame and cat walks will get a new coat of paint. The fun design are animals: chicken, duck, horse, teddy bear, pig, sheep. Some are pink, some are blue, with a white accent. This is a fun room to do! Hopefully, will be done this week. Thanks to Peggy S for painting all day yesterday for us!

Have a wonderful day. Please remember to vote! We're still #1 in the ranks, have stayed in that position the entire contest and have only 49 days left till it's over! It's been a long contest, but we can do it!! I thank you for your support and votes--means a lot to this Rescue Center.

Kiara wanted her chance to say a big thanks for your support!

Saturday, March 9

The sun is shining, the air is still, birds are chirping and the cats are piled onto the cat shelves in the Kabana Room! A touch of spring is in the air. Derecho is just full of himself this morning--being silly and playing everywhere! Salee is busy playing with a coil toy--her favorite. Cozarelii is on the window shelf--he's doing better and better at getting onto the shelf. Pania has her favorite toy--a soft blue stuffed toy that she keeps track of. What a joy to see her play!

Joyful has let three different people pick her up this morning and hold her. We hold her for very short sessions, but it's definitely a plus! I also planted three kisses on her before she wanted down. Maybe we'll be trying her again soon in the main area of the rescue center.Slow and easy is the name of the Joyful Game. That little Static is a fun boy--it seems like there's three of him. He's everywhere! He also enjoys eating my papers on the desk. He's chewed up bits and pieces of 3 of them already today.

Yesterday, we did another webcam tour for a class in Indiana. This one was extra special, as it was for my granddaughter Kerstyn's class. I always enjoy these tours. Thank you for the respect that all viewers showed. I appreciate it. Please always know that we have children on our kittycam at any given time. We always want to think about what we say and what we type, as our words are seen and heard thru the ears and eyes of children.

Please remember now is the time to pre-order the 2013 FFRC Cat Lover's Cookbook Volume II. The cost is $28 for those being shipped in the USA. It's $33 for those being shipped outside of the USA. This cookbook has over 650 new recipes, new sections and lots of pictures of the resident kitties. Pre-orders will be taken until March 25th. All profits, beyond the printing cost and shipping, goes to FFRC. Books will be sent out end of April/first of May.

It's auction time! The 3-set weaved rugs and the tapestry afghan is on the block until 6 pm tonight (FFRC time). If interested, go to our Chatters facebook page and put your bid in. Bids can be raised anywhere from $1 to $20.

We have started the preliminary work on the 2013 Catathon! How so very exciting! We have great plans, will be very entertaining and am have goals for the donation results of the Catathon! More later, along with our basket ideas! The Catathon is June 23. Mark it on the calendar and join us. Many people will be traveling to FFRC and staying in our local motels to be here on that day! If you're interested, here are the motels:
Comfort Inn                419-784-4900
Hampton Inn               419-784-1515

Super 8 Motel             419-782-8000

Joni and Beth, two of our visitors this week, are now both gone. Both have been here before and are thoroughly enjoyed here at FFRC. Both also helped us with the painting that we're doing in the Cat's Corner Room. The shelves were in big need of being painted. Since this is our kitten room, we decided to paint it blue and pink. The shelves will be those two colors, as will be  the door/window trim and the design around our Angel Ladder painting. All is well here. Have a wonderful weekend! Please remember to vote--each and every vote is important! Thank you.

Preakness says "Please vote!".

Friday, March 8

Happy Birthday to our dear Magenta! Today she is 16 years old. Magenta came to us originally in 2/2003, as a magenta painted cat. Yes, someone colored her and it took us quite some time to get her to be "normal". She had been adopted twice, both to good homes. Unfortunately, both of these owners passed away, and each time Magenta was returned. After the second happening, she was then 12 years old, so we decided she had earned the ranks of being an oldster and could stay with us forever! When she first arrived, Magenta had a litter of kittens--cute little sweeties that were of course, all adopted. Happy Birthday to our girl!

Yesterday, we did a program for two second grade classes in California, thru the web-cam. It was fun. They projected our webcam onto their big screen in front of the classroom.

We had BOXES last night. I sure enjoyed it and am so appreciative.

Joni (our visitor)--2 neat artworks--a drawer she made into an awesome kitty bed and a octagon table that was made into a kitty bed
Phil's kitty, Cleo from NJ--sent a gift card for FFRC from Amazon
Solitarydancer/Deb B--a heavy duty free standing ramp for the CH kitties and Bella to be able to get onto the window shelves in Kitty Kabana. It's wonderful and I thank you for this!

There's been much talk about a second cam being put into Kitty Kabana Room! While, we also think this would be great, there's a lot more involved than just sticking a cam on the wall! It's already been a topic of discussion, even before the room was done. We're looking into the best way of doing this, for long term use and for convenience to both the viewers and for FFRC. So.......please, be patient!! It may take a little time but it will be worth it. In the meantime, we will continue to switch back and forth between the main area and the Kabana.

Cozarelii did an awesome thing this morning. All by himself, he figured out how to get up onto the window ledge in the Kabana room. He was so pleased and so were we. We are also helping Derecho to figure out a way that he too could possibly get on the shelf by himself. He's working on it and is so interested in the outdoors!

We had an adoption yesterday! Our wonderful "wet Webbie" left. Weber found his forever home. This family has 4 girls who are so ready to love a cat. Weber left with lots of toys to keep him busy!

I have made the decision that Badu will be going into the home of a person who I've talked to several times. She would love to provide Badu a loving home. This is the same person that I talked about months ago, but since then, Badu came into my home and I loved having her. I so wanted her to fit in, which she did. She's wonderful in the house and I really wanted to have her stay.. Unfortunately, the past several weeks, she's decided to have a go at my 2 boys--Zeke and Zap. This can't happen, as she truly tries to do serious harm. So, I've recontacted this lady and she's still so very interested. She will foster Badu at first, then we'll make the adoption official. If Badu is anything like she is in my home, she will do fine. I want to do it at a time that is good for this lady and good for me, as I want to go with Badu and spend some time with her there.

I would like to leave this blog with a thought. Please know that I am an extremely grateful person to you all "out there". This rescue center would not be the same without you. I am extremely grateful for the volunteers as well, which I know, you are too. But, one thing that is bothering me. It seems that sometimes we, in a internet world, sometimes some people forget their manners. Please, in regards to FFRC, we want this to be a kind, thoughtful, pleasant, g-rated site. That means being considerate of one another, even though we cannot see each other face to face. We have so many avenues here--the chat, the facebook, PM's, etc. Use these avenues to do good, not a way to be rude or nasty to one another. This is another thought--it's wonderful to know that out of the thousands of supporters we have, 99% of them are awesome and so friendly and kind. We're a good team of friends, so don't let those very few that are rude, be a consideration!

Happy Birthday, Magenta!

Thursday, March 7

The snow is melting down and the kitties energy levels are up! It's fast mode for them all the time. Sequoia is here in the office, with Weeja and Static. It's hard to see their feet touch the ground--busy, busy kittens. They pounce on each other, cry, release and do it again. Oh.......those sharp teeth of kitties are fun to use and practice with.

We had BOXES last night. This Rescue Center is so very grateful for these gifts.

Sometimes, due to computer glitches and my errors, at times, things may not be correct. Please never hesitate to email me with corrections.

Please forgive me--I know the above list is not complete. We had a problem with computer freeze-ups and so the notes are not complete. I will make amends in the next blog. Thanks for understanding.

We had our weekly Petfinder report. We had 1,642 total views. The top 12 cats that were viewed were: Badu, Weber, Goodness, Buckeye, Farrah, Cypress, Betz, Maui, Willard, Octavia, Georgia and County. All wonderful cats!

If you'd like to pre-order your 2013 FFRC Cat Lover's Cookbook Volume II, go to: fofrescue.org/the-ffrc-cat-lovers-cookbook-for-2013/   It has over 650 new recipes, new sections and lots more pictures of the resident kitties!

Today at 11:45 am (Ohio time) we will give a tour to two second grade classes that are in California. We'll show some of the cats up close, then do a tour of the rescue center, including the new Kitty Kabana Room! One of our volunteers, Mary E. will be taking a couple kittens and Derecho to an elementary class here in Defiance for a "cat class". Educate the young and they will help the adults.

It's officially spring.....at least to the cat population. The days are longer and lighter already, which triggers these females to go into heat. Please know this: this overpopulation of kittens can be prevented--get those females and males neutered.  Sister/brother, brother/mama--it doesn't matter. Don't think they won't mate, because they WILL. If a cat is not spayed, she WILL have kittens. The kittens born in March and April very likely will have kittens themselves this fall. Please help--grab a cat and get it neutered. The increased calls have already started. There is no way this rescue center can keep up with the overpopulation problem, but together, with human help, we can make a big dent.

Just think, possibly in a month or soon after that, we'll be moving the Covies from their winter home back to Cat's Cove. Can't wait. I always love this move--gives them so much more room to run and play. And on their outside outings, they love the farmyard.

I've heard from the man that adopted Micah. Oh my, what a happy cat. He's a sweetie and so loved. He's become a door greeter. He loves his treats and loves to race with his new brother up and down the hallway. I saw a picture of him and he looks so happy. I'm thrilled for him.

Thank you for your support. I am eternally appreciative to all of you for what you do for this Rescue Center. YOU make a difference and make things happen here! I am grateful. We're doing good here. Have healthy cats (still a few sneezes, but it's ok), Farrah hasn't had any seizures, all the oldsters are doing great, kittens are growing and adoptions are happening!

Raza--is now on hold. She also now has a beautiful bling collar and name tag that says: Raza Daza Doodle Girl. She told me that she's so happy to have a mama.

Weds., March 6

We got snow! The cats are already lined up on the window shelves in Kitty Kabana looking out over the white front yard--a much different look from yesterday. The Kitty Kabana has now been open for over 24 hours. I do believe it's a big hit and the cats and kitties love it! Lots of looking out the windows and climbing on the shelves! I just saw Solee LEAP into the room and not fall. She loves it. The 8 kittens have also been all over in the Kabana room. We'll keep switching the cam so you can view the main area and the Kabana room.

The baby 4 newest kittens now have names. Here they are:
Mach--the light beige
Whisk--black/white, white whisker pad, no dots
Sprint--black/white, with small white dot on whisker pad (rt.)
Snappy--black/white, with big dot on whisker pad (rt)
These are all "zooming" names. It seems if the kittens are sleeping, they're zooming around playing! Such happy, healthy kittens. The 8 kittens spent their first night out of their room--was out all night with the rest of the gang! They did just fine.

This Friday at 6 pm to Saturday at 6 pm, we will have another auction! We will have two items. The first, are the three beautiful weaved rugs from WarpedinMN makes. They are beautiful, wash easily and the color stays! Two are the same size, the third is large.  The second item is a tapestry afghan, with 9 cats on it. It measures 4 feet by 5 feet 5 inches. It's so beautiful. Be ready to give your bid. This auction will again be on the chatter's ffrc fb page. If you'd like to bid and not a member yet, ask a friend to get you onto it, then an admin. will approve you. Or you can ask a friend to bid for you. The bids will again be in $1 to $20 amounts.

Here comes Solee again. She's here, there and everywhere! I love to see when she and Cozarelii nap together! Bella is sitting in the kitty door to Kabana room, blocking the way. Little Static is up high on a cat walk, trying to figure out how to get down. I've lifted him down countless times--he cries, I lift down. Yesterday, Mach, Whisk, Sprint and Snappy were all napping together--one tight ball of fur! County and Preakness are sitting back to back looking out at the snow. Static is going to make it down by himself--he's down almost to floor level....all by himself! Little rascal's been fooling me!

Dove is such a funny girl. She has so fit in here at the rescue center. She loves to have someone sit on the step by her and just pet and pet. Joyful again had her share of pets yesterday and purred! What joy she brings us when she does this. Tabatha did her morning trick again. I leave my 3 1/2 inch drawer open, she crawls in, grunts and groans until she pushes herself clear to the back, then drops down to the next drawer and waits for me to open it up and then she hops out!

We had a return yesterday. Boing was returned. He was adopted a short time ago, along with Miler. Miler has bonded with the resident cat there, Danny. This has caused Boing to be aggressive to both of them. In thinking of the well being of Boing, his family thought he should be returned and find a home where he would be happier. So, this is a good thing and we will find a new happier home for Boing. In the meantime, Miler and Danny are happy too.

We had TWO adoptions yesterday! Our sweet Darilyn went to her new home. Her new mama will let her lick her too (that was a requirement!). I believe this will be a wonderful home for her. Then our sweet Telo was adopted. We sent home all of his clear plastic rings. He went to a gentleman that was here a couple weeks. At both of these meetings, it seemed a match between him and Telo. Telo's parting good-bye to me, was to drop a plastic ring into my hand.....so sweet.

Have a great day! Please keep voting! We gained .01%  Yeah!

Tuesday, March 5

Kitty Kabana room is now open for business! The mop boards went up yesterday. Then we got all the shelves/cat walks in place. Next came the decorations, table and chairs and cushies! We love it. But, most importantly, the cats and kittens love it! For the Grand Showing last night, we opened the window that goes into this room, opened the door and the little kitten door. In they came--one by one, sometimes two by two! It was fun and they had a blast! Lots of investigating going on. Then we closed it down for the night and opened it again (for good) this morning, after breakfast. The cats love it. Right now, it's getting to be daybreak and the cats are able to see outside. I counted 5 on the window ledge looking out! We can also put our webcam out there for our viewers to see the action! Thanks for making this possible for FFRC.

We had BOXES last night! We are so grateful.

Please keep voting! We now have only 54 more days to vote! It's counting down. We started in first place, have kept that position, but it's been a fight! Thanks to you and your votes, we're still in #1.  Please help us to stay there!

Solee is laying in a basket with Bev snuggled right next to her--that's nice to see. Derecho and Weber are such good friends--they love to tussel together. Bella is napping in the middle of the big poof bed--almost swollowed up by it! I do believe she's smiling. Weeja and Sequoia are really wrestling, with Static on the side, jumping in for good measure now and then. Lots of action--makes for a great day!

Dove loves her cushies!
