We had a large bill from our main medical supplier.  Our Queen/King contest and this Fun-Raiser will get that bill paid.  This also includes another $350 bill that came in yesterday for more vaccines!  I am so so very grateful!

I've seen a picture of Frazier in his new home already--he seems so happy!

I've also seen pics of Foster--he has definitely fit right into his new home!

Arica and Burgundy are also doing great--they love the big house to run and run. The two girls are getting along just fine!

Updates!
Gracie Goldmine is doing great.  She is so pretty and has a sweet personality.  We've figured out why her back was so sore. She had a fairly large abscess. It was drained yesterday and again this morning. That alone gave her some relief. She's on 2 antibiotics and also soreness meds.  She actually enjoyed her bubble bath--this removed a lot of the grime that was on her. Today she is fluffy, happy and eating her fill.  Gracie Goldie is already spayed--has the green tattoo from HumaneOhio!

Minerva ate her own supper last night and her 2 breakfasts this  morning! Sure made us all smile here!  She was also able to get up and walk around a little bit. She's still sleeping alot--she has alot of resting to do while she is healing. She too is sweet and welcomes the TLC she is receiving.
Both cats will be vet checked by Dr. Darcy tomorrow.

Tomorrow, Saturday will keep us all hopping!  More neuters to get done! We do not have any FFRC cats scheduled as they are too young.

Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020

I did 4 of my favorite things yesterday afternoon--all at the same time!  Laid on a giant pillow with a cat, listened to my music, read a book and ate a cookie!  It was wonderful. And the cat that I was visiting was Minerva.

Minerva is a cat we took in on 2/24, Monday.  We originally received a call late Sunday night from a lady who did a food pick up at The Station--she said a black/white cat was at the door, injured and sick.  She had already left this business, but I asked if anyway to get the cat inside for the night.  When she went back, she called again and said the cat was gone now.  Then Monday morning, Chief employees called and said a black/white cat that was sick and injured was there.  This is about 1 block from The Station.  I drove up and there were 4 wonderful employees giving her some loving and water.

She was brought back to FFRC. She has a rather long list of problems.  She's an oldster, many teeth are missing, some of those left are rotted, emaciated, dehydrated, left ear had blood, right eye doesn't seem to be functioning, very dirty, major flea load, back legs extremely stiff and a severe URI.

Dr. Darcy will see her on Saturday. In the meantime, she is receiving fluids, oral protein food is being syringed to her every hour from early morning to night. She's on eye medication and antibiotics. Her body temp is being helped to stay stable.

Her name is a Name a Cat name, meaning Goddess of Wisdom. I am not even going to venture a guess on her age--oldster fits her.  She's a sweet girl who can now purr, as of last night. Please keep her in your prayers and good thoughts--she is far from being out of the woods for her recovery.

We also took on another adult--a beautiful long hair torti. Her name is Gracie Goldmine (another Name a Cat name).  This is another beautiful cat, neglected, left deserted in a filthy apartment, all by herself.  A friend of FFRC's discovered her and took care of her for a couple days, then brought to FFRC.  She has mega mats, is dirty, was very hungry and has an extremely painful back. We're not sure what could have caused this, but it hurts very much and is swollen. She's on pain meds and is being given much TLC. Dr. Darcy will look at her also on Saturday.  Please keep Gracie Goldmine too in your good thoughts and prayers. She is in need too.

We've had 5 more adoptions!
2/22--Angola went to her new home! She is a teenager beautiful short hair torti.
2/22--Gee Willikers went to his new home.  He is an adult, tiger/white.
2/24--Aricia and Burgundy went to their new homes, together with lots of space and inside porch area! Both adults!
2/27--Frazier was adopted today. He went to the family that adopted Ally Jo on 2/9.

The P litter is now up in the Main Area. They take naps, food and nighttime at Paddy's Place. Other than that, they are here, there and everywhere. Those tiny legs sure can run about! Two of these kittens are already on hold. The other 2 have families of interest in them.

Tuffy is doing wonderful. He's our oldster snowshoe siamese. Knowing that he hadn't been with any other cats his entire life (except for his litter), we were taking it slow with him. But.....being the wonderful cat that he is, once he came up into the Main Area, he adjusted quickly. He's not only handsome but a real sweet boy.

We have THANKS to give:

Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020

FFRC took on the responsibility of ownership for a 11 1/2 year old snowshoe lynx point siamese cat. He has lived in a nursing home for the past 3 years with his mama. She passed away a week ago tomorrow. Family asked us to take him on. He's right now acclimating to us, in the front Thumper's Room. They brought his mom's quilt that had been on her all week--so that will help. He's a sweetie and should someone want to take him into their home, that is fine with the family. He's a big boy,  His name is Tuffy.  He's doing very well but we will let him tell us when he's ready to meet and greet the cats in the Main Area.

We had BOXES on Thursday! We so love BOXES!  Many thanks.

Freida--officially adopted!  So very happy about this. A foster failure that was anticipated to happen!  Freida has been a shy girl and now her new mama has quickly made it official--Freida will stay with her forever!  She is responding to this wonderful 24/7 TLC

Foster--went to his new home with an FFRC friend.  Foster was rather smitten with his new mama from the beginning here--would purr and paw at her for attention!

Yes, our numbers are coming down. We have had amazing amount of adoptions for December and January and now are able to get the teenagers and adults adopted. Our adoptable cats are now getting low!  What a wonderful thing to have happen........all before kitty season starts! So......for now, we are enjoying the quietness, the less rooms to clean (we've closed Paddys Place and Kitty Campus for now), the lighter "load" in litterboxes, smaller meals to serve, etc. It won't last long!
Won't be long until we move the P kittens to Paddy's Place. They are finally gaining a good weight and are so active. They are also all 4 super fun! Pinkerton is still the smallest but he is the most orneriest. Pueblo loves his purple mama.  Panthy was the first to climb the tall pole. Peppe was the first to climb the slant board to the cat furniture!

Monday starts our Feb. fun-raiser!  We have had 8 x 8 canvas pictures donated to FFRC of our residents. They are super nice--pictures are clear and great poses of our FFRC cats!  Check out the fb pages for info and on the cam too!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Weds., February 19, 2020

Another surgery day for spays/neuters happened this past Monday! We sent 41 cats to HumaneOhio--26 females and 15 males.  Many thanks to Lynnette, Gem and Becky M for helping us with this event!  This brings our 2020 total so far to 182 cats--105 females and 77 males.

Our next spay/neuter day is Saturday, Feb. 29, here at FFRC.  It's a male neuter day. We are trying to spay/neuter as many as we can..............spring is coming and now is the time to make a big difference, before it gets into warm weather and longer daylight hours. We have a few male slots left--if interested, call our office at 419-393-2400 for an appointment.

HumaneOhio's main goal is to spay and neuter, at a low-cost. They do cats and dogs.  If you would like to schedule your own appointment with them, please call their office at 419-266-5607.  They are in Toledo, Oh.

We have thanks to give:
Deborah S--donation to FFRC
Marianne D--donation to FFRC
Christopher S--donation to FFRC
James R--donation to FFRC

What is SaveARescue?  SaveARescue is an organization dedicated to reduction of euthanasia of shelter dogs & cats and the puppy mill industry that ‘fuel’ and supply retail pet stores with puppies, teaching staff to say these puppies come from “reputable breeders” [aka:  puppy mills]. SaveARescue promotes adoption of rescue animals and supporting all the Rescue organizations.
What is the petition about?
Every year, millions of unwanted Dogs and Cats slip through the cracks. These are the Dogs and Cats who are
  • Dumped throughout rural and urban America, unable to fend for themselves;
  • Abandoned and left to die slowly and alone in our deserts & swamps;
  • Locked away, alone and starving, in empty buildings and deserted homes;
  • Chained and left alone 24/7 to endure the elements without shelter, food or water;
  • Hit by vehicles on our highways and roads and left, still alive, alone and suffering.
This petition is in support of a 911-like hotline for Cats and Dogs so people in every community can help pets in life-threatening situations. Recipient of this petition will be the U.S. Congress
SaveARescue has reached out to quality makers of cat and dog food for help in promoting this petition.  $100K in quality Pet Food has been donated. ($10,000 Pet Food GiveAway to 10 Rescues each)
Every Shelter and Rescue -- no matter how big or how small -- has a chance to win.
  •  6 Rescues collecting the most signatures will each win $10,000 in Quality Pet Food.
  • 4 Rescues will win in a “Wild Card Random Draw” for their well-meaning attempts.

Everyone wins, but most important the voiceless, helpless Dogs & Cats out there right now with no chance of surviving on their own.

No the food will be shipped to a local pet store for pickup

We appreciate every single person that helps!

I've heard back from Muckie's new dad.  He sure does love Muckie. And he's going to keep his name.  I've seen pictures and he sure is comfortable in his new home!

We've had 3 more adoptions!
Chardonnay and Cady went to their new homes.....together! They have a new mama who has lots of love to give these two girls. So happy for all of them!

Penny Lane was adopted yesterday! She went with our FFRC friend, Painteddaisy/June. The plane trip went smoothly.  It sounds like she was already investigating the house last night and settling in!

The F litter: Foster and Frazier are doing great. They are up in the Main Area.  Foster is extra sweet and loves to be petted. Frazier is coming along.  Freida is going with a friend of mine to her small apartment where she will be fostered.  Freida needs lots of attention--it seems like she's had a severe "scare" in her young life. There will will receive 24/7 TLC and sole attention of our friend.  This is a good thing for Freida.

The P litter--oh my, what can we say but they sure are sweet!  Ornery, growing and very active!  They came up to the main area yesterday, in the big playpen. They loved that and it starts to give them a knowledge that there's more fun things to come!  That little Pinkerton is extra fun--he gets into everything and seems to think he should be in PawMart.  All 4 are so friendly.

Queen Jessie and King Paw Paw are doing great. They are exerting their royalty over the others--Jessie now wants fed 8 times a day instead of 7!  And Paw Paw is showing the P litter how to be extra cute! He loves them.

He's so super sweet and snuggles with us every chance he gets. And he does this adorable thing when he wants food or treats.  He'll come out to the kitchen and sit down, wrap his tail around his front paws and just looks up at us patiently. Then when he hears the food it's nothing but little raspy meows!  We love him so much!"

All Donations for Valentine's Day, from our Valentine Crowning and during this week will go towards our recent bill from our main medical supplier.  We needed alot of restocking items and so the bill was rather high.  Thanks for helping us with this!

Yesterday was our Valentine Crowning! It was so much fun.  We hope you all enjoyed it! I so appreciate each and every single vote that was cast.  This fun-raiser will also help with that medical bill for this month.  We have a new Queen and King! However, we know that ALL of our Residents are royal cats!
Here's how the votes played out:
Second Runner Ups:   Magic (38 votes) and Lucy (32 votes)
First Runner Ups:  Ramsay (63 votes) and Marilyn (34 votes)
And now...........King Paw Paw (98 votes) and Queen Jessie (41 votes)

It was rather nice to have our two oldster Residents win!
Total votes that we received were 525 which came to $2,625.
And then we had some bump-ups that brought the total up even more---$3023!
ALL persons who voted for the Queen and/or King will receive a Sprocket picture of the couple and 2 special cat decals.  We drew names for those that placed the Queen/King votes for a Digital Photo Frame, 2 8 x8 canvas pics of the King and Queen and also for 6 heart blankets.

All of people who cast votes had their names in a consolation drawing for 10 cat blankies and 3 towel sets.
Following the Crowning, a Valentine Story involving the FFRC cats was read. Story was written by our webcam friend Cindy G!

After the story was read, I was presented with the most wonderfulest gift.  It was a memory book with stories from many of our FFRC friends.  It truly was awesome......I was not aware this was going to happen. Brings much humbleness to me and much joy.  The stories, the letters, the captions, the pictures......all just made me smile (and cry too).  I thank you all for this wonderful gift.  I will treasure it always. 💙💚💛

We took in 7 new kittens.
3 kittens came together--they are known as the F litter.  They were found out in the middle of a field, snuggled down into the snow and mud.  They are 9 months old with a birthday of 5/14/19.  They are:
Foster--gold tiger, male
Freda--gray torti, female
Frasier--brown tiger, rear toes are white, male

4 kittens came together--they are known as the P litter.  They were from a mama that had 11 kittens. Unfortunately, she went outside and was struck by a car.  7 kittens were placed in homes and FFRC took the remaining 4.  All are sweet but with low weights.  They are now plumping up and gaining a few ounces.  They are 6 weeks old with a birthday of 12/31/19. They are:
Pinkerton--gold tiger, white, white feet, male. Arrived at 11 ounces
Pepe--black/white neck & tummy, male.  Arrived at 1.02
Panthy--all black, with a few white sprigs of fur.  Arrived at 15 ounces
Pueblo--gold tiger, male   Arrived at 1.04.

You all take care. and enjoy this wonderful weekend. Please know that you all are truly appreciated.  The cats send their purrs and gratitude for helping them too.

Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020

If you hear a cat that is just talking and talking, that would be Burgundy.  She is absolutely so sweet.  And still available for adoption!  If you talk back to her, she will carry on a conversation. She must have learned that from Pania! And that rascal Tux.  He just pesters her all the time--loves to nibble her tail, her ears and climb all over her.  And Burgundy doesn't mind at all!  She is so patient with him.

WE had an adoption on 2/9!  Ally Jo was adopted into a wonderful family! And she is so happy!  I've seen pictures already and she is so at home! Her new name is Yennefer. She has already been sleeping on their bed and is very affectionate!

The latest new cats are all doing great--Ananya, Burgundy, Muckie and Imelda.

We have a few more on hold:  Penny Lane, Tux and Ananya (together), Imelda, Cady and Angola.
We are now in the midst of electing a King and Queen for FFRC!  The votes are coming in!  Please check the fb pages for info! The cats have been getting all decked out--grooming, catching up on sleep, dreaming of hearts and Valentines!  The voting stops on 2/14 at 9 am.  The presentation of the King and Queen, 1st and 2nd runner ups will begin at 2:00 Friday!

Tomorrow, Weds. at 5:00 is another storytime!  This is one special story written just for FFRC!

Monday, Feb. 17 is our next HumaneOhio surgery day---we have a full schedule!

Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020

Two more cats have arrived at FFRC. We took them from 2 families that came for surgery on Monday.
Ananya--a Name a Cat name, pronounced a-nan-e-a. She is a sweet kitten, 10 weeks old. Her favorite thing to do is to purr and roll over to be petted.  She even did this when we were drying her from her bath!  Her birthday is 11/25/19.  Ananya is a brown tiger and white kitten with an extra cute face!

Burgundy--another Name a Cat name. This very pretty black/white cat is 1 1/2 years old with a birthday of 8/2/18.  She enjoys a good petting.
Both cats are starting to think about coming up to the Main Area. Muckie too has been venturing closer to coming up.  He sits in the doorway not quite sure he's ready. Muckie is so funny--he absolutely loves the two big beds that on the floor in the back Thumper's Room.  He's enjoying this comfort and will sprawl all out on them.

Imelda is up in the Main Area all the time now. Such a pretty muted calico she is. She's eating good and is enjoying her playtime.

We had also taken in another kitten, a male that was found at the McDonald's parking lot. He apparently had gotten hit by a car. Someone found him injured and brought him to Gem who brought to FFRC on Monday.  We named him Mpama. The name means beautiful and that was what he was.  Mpama wasn't with us long. We couldn't transport him to the vet until yesterday--he was too fragile for transport. But we made the drive to Dr. Darcy yesterday. X-rays revealed how bad he had been injured. He had a left femur fracture, injured left knee, fractured right tibia, severely fractured pelvis. The worse though was he also had a diaphragmatic  hernia, from the blow. What this does is opens the diaphram--the lower organs then come up into the chest area.  He had so many things wrong and was having difficulty breathing. The decision was made to let him go to kitty heaven. In the short 3 days he was here, he was so loved.  Even though the heart hurts, I'm so thankful he was here where he was warm, hugged and looked after instead of being out in the cold.

Was he left there at McDonald's on purpose......another dump off?  Probably.  Does it make us angry. Sure it does. But, what we do with that anger is what counts. Here at FFRC, we continue on. There's always more cats to care for. Better to put our energies into something constructive than to let the anger get the best of us.  So, we choose to continue on with a good heart, caring for the cats and kittens and continuing our spay/neuter programs.

Yesterday was our Flash Sale. This made $611 for FFRC for which I am grateful. This will help us to pay a couple monthly bills!  Many thanks to the mods for their help, to Lynnette and Marcia and to those that provided the items for the sale. And of course to those that made the purchases! It takes a group effort to make these successful.

We have thanks to give!
Gem--donation to help with Mpama
Hallie G--donation to FFRC
Tracy L--donation to FFRC
Katherine E--donation for FFRC
Marco G--donation in honor of sweet angel Lucie
William M--donation for FFRC

Do you walk?  Do you jog?  Do you bike?  Remember, all these miles can benefit FFRC!  Just put in the ap ResQwalk and follow their directions!  For the last quarter, FFRC just received $88.89 from the miles you put in.  This is wonderful!  And we appreciate it.

I've heard from Fanta and Xinzele's new family.  All is fine there.  While the girls may not be best friends, they are doing good together.  Both are enjoying the bird feeders and the run of the house.

We have an update on Kumbukani.  He is now a happy cat and is a Porchie. He had come from outside and I doubt ever lived inside. The decision was made when he was spraying everything....never using the litterbox. Now, he can spray to his hearts content outside! He's an easy going guy and will be just fine. Lots of food, shelter, water, heat lights, beds for him to enjoy!

This Sunday is our Annual Volunteer Meeting at 2:00.

Next week is a special week, leading into Valentine's Day! Here's the info:
FFRC Royal Family!    It’s been 2 years since we had our Valentine King and Queen royalty election!  And the cats have been heard………they want another one!  So—they speak, we listen!  The last election voted Derecho as King and Coralie as Queen.
The cats want to show you a fun day for Valentine’s Day.  And the reason for that is because they appreciate you all.  They can honestly feel the love come from the cam! They would like their cat people friends to vote for a Valentine Queen and King!  We have 17 residents that are participating! It’s simple—just send a check to FFRC with your voting requests. Or you can go to our website at fofrescue.org and click on the PayPal link. You can vote ($5 a vote) as many times as you’d like! You can put your vote(s) all on 1 cat or as many as you want.  This event starts Mo0nday, Feb. 10 and ends at 9 am on Valentine Day, Feb. 14.
Then we (the cat’s helpers), will count the votes and determine which female and male has the highest votes.  This royal couple will have a beautiful Valentine photo shoot done.
Anyone who put in a vote for the Queen and/or King will get a Sprocket picture sent to them of the Royal Couple of their Royal Setting photo.  Those voters will also each receive a special cat decal,  just for this occasion.
All people who have voted for the new King or Queen will also have their names put into a Valentine heart and a name will be drawn. That person will receive their very own Digital Photo Frame! Plus, 2 more tickets will be drawn—the first King name drawn and then the first Queen name drawn—those winners will receive an 8 x 8 canvas picture of that particular cat.  And then….4 more names will be drawn for 4 beautiful heart blankets for your pet.
For those that did tickets but were not for the winning King and Queen--those names will be in a consolation drawing for 10 cat blankies.
On 2/14 at 2:00, on the cam,  the 1st runner ups will be shown on a special Valentine “stage”. Then the winning royalty will be presented to our cam friends. Following the royal showing,  a special Valentine story written for FFRC will be read.
Join the fun! Who will be the new Queen and King?

Monday, Feb. 3, 2020

Two adoptions to start February off in the right direction! Fanta and Xinzela were adopted together on 2/1. We knew the family wanted two cats, both to be adults. Even though Fanta and Xinzela didn't always like the other cats to be directly in their face, we thought these two girls would do fine in a home.  And they are! There's plenty of space for both of them, and couches with backs on them that look out into the back yard. They are doing very well!

We have also taken on another new adult cat.
Muckie--a black/white cat with a black/white nose and a left cheek whisker pad that is black. Very cute and very big! He's almost 12 1/2 pounds! He came from friends of FFRC and had been an outside cat but is thoroughly enjoying this new inside lifestyle.  His birthday is 11-26-19 and he arrived 2/1.  He is in the back Thumper's Room.  He and Kumbukani are friends are are hanging out together.

And we also have a new kitten.
Imelda--a muted calico.  She is 21 weeks old, born 9/6/19. She arrived 1/31/20.  She was found on a doorstep but has the traditional abrasions on her face that suggests she was tossed from a car. She had fleas but those are all taken care of. She arrived thin and hungry. Today she is up in the Main Area and is becoming comfortable with the other cats.

We have thanks to give!
Ella K--is an 8th grader at Ayersville Jr. High. She did a service project and collected items that FFRC needed: 26 cans 9 Lives, 3 cans Fiskies, 6 food bowls, 5 cat toys, 2 litterscoopers, 1-3lb bag Rachel Ray cat food, 5 cans Hills can food, kitty snackers, 8 fancy feast, dry cat food, 2 Iams Perfect Portions.  Many thanks, Ella!

We've also heard from some of our adopted FFRC cats!
Jondalar, now known as Pepper.  As is his way, hs talked all the way home!  They say-- "He's a great cat and a perfect fit. All the cats get along, even the dog likes him.  He sure can talk! We sure do love him."

Remember Ashley, one of the Christmas Day 2017 litter of kittens? Her owner says that she is so smart and is always curious. She is very spoiled and loved!

Chuckles, now known as Chewie. "He is doing great. So playful! My husband just said this morning we should of called him Flash. Everything is 100 miles an hour! He has brought so much joy to our house. He is just a non-stop kitten...takes little naps but is right back at it!"

Silky, now known as Millie.  "She is doing great and has fully adjusted to our home/schedules. Penny (our dog) is in awe of her. Always giving her a bath or wondering what she is up to. Thank you for all that you do....Millie is the perfect addition to our family. Masn (our son) was under the weather last week, his request was--Daddy, will you bring me Millie...I need to take a nap."

Today is HumaneOhio day! We sent up 31 cats this morning. This broke down to 22 females and 9 neuters. Earlier this week, we did 2 voucher programs for 2 boys. So our total for 2020 is 79 females and 62 males--141. A good day today!

It's coming up..........a possible new royal couple for FFRC!  Details very soon!
