Monday, June 29, 2020

Goodness.......where has June gone to?  Hard to believe it's almost July. Steve and I had a nice time on our mini vacation last week--nice to get refreshed.  The first day, two of our kids and 4 grandkids came with us to the giant flea market.  That is always fun family time!

We've had a few adoptions!
Bluster & Carolina--two of our black kittens. These two are very shy. I am fortunate to have a friend who does rescue out of town.  She only offers help to other rescues and FFRC gets 3 "slots" this year with her.  So.......Bluster and Carolina went to her for major TLC and helping them to figure out where their lives are going! She did a couple shy ones last year too for FFRC.  They are still shy but accepting of a hand now, without too much fussing.  They will eventually be placed together.

Josiah Tomas and Keefer--adopted together on 6/22.  They are doing wonderful! Keefer is now Tucker--he loves the dog!  Josiah T is now Finn--he is very laid back. "They fit in perfect with the family".

Xibowa & Muddles--adopted together on 6/23. Their family was very excited to share their home with them! I just heard this morning that things are going good. Another two wonderful kittens!

Mr. FluffyPants--adopted 6/26 to a family that has a few other cats. Mr. FluffyPans sure got lucky--he was picked out by his new mom and dad.  They got to know him thru a jar of babyfood. He then thought they were the perfect family!

We have thanks to give---our FFRCNation is so very wonderful!
Yvonnevdk--donation to be used where most needed.
Janet M--donation to FFRC
Dorothy B from UK--donation to FFRC

Colleen P--donation to FFRC

I am so very sorry to let you know that we lost a kitten last night.  We've been working on little Silvy all week--she had arrived with a URI. She just never kicked it, regardless of antibiotics, meds to help her feel better, sq fluids, syringe feeding, eye medications and lots of TLC.  Such a sweet soul kitten.  I am very sorry she will not grow up and have a family. But, we were her family for a little while.

Farmyard news:The horses, goat and donkey are all doing great. Their different corrals are nice and green. The feathered friends on the farmyard are doing great. We have an addition of 26 little chickies--a mix of Brahmas, Orpingtons and Road Island Reds.  They will be out and about once they get some growing done! Gertrude, one of the geese sure wants to mother them.  I told her she'd have to wait until they grow abit. Her big webbed feet may be harmful. She is watching over them from the outside of their pen.

Frankie is doing very well now--eating just fine! Jessie has been napping on my desk recently. It's nice to have cat company while at the desk.  While Jessie is holding her weight fairly well, she is indeed losing muscle tone. But, considering her age, she is doing good. She certainly "bosses" us around........and we do whatever she wants!

Please don't hesitate to let me know if I've made an error of information or have forgotten to post something. It's been a bit hectic here for me lately but I always aim to get things correct or to fix it.  Thanks.

Today we will have BOXES at noon. On Weds we will have a Flash Sale at 11:00--this will be a variety of items!

Sunday, June 21, 2020

A different day than was intended.  Today would've been our Catathon Day.  A bit sad at the things we've had to change. But.....life goes on, we carry thru and just jiggle things around a bit.

Yesterday was our FFRC surgery day. We did 8 male kittens and 2 female kittens--all FFRC cats. This brings our 2020 total surgeries to 507.
The males we did were: Ralphie, Raphael, Mr. Fluffypants, Josiah Thomas, Keefer, Muddles, Otis and Shaz.
The females we did were: Xibowa and Roxi.

We also were able to get some physicals done.
Kiara--good
Magic--a little tartar upper right, but otherwise good
Pania--good
Spiker--good, slight right rear knee luxation
Lucie--good
Ramsay--good, his routine ear cleaning done
Jessie--good, but this time noticed a 4/6 heart murmur
Uri--both achilles tendons atrophied--no worries, he is as he is.

Many thanks to Dr. Darcy, Amber, Lynnette, Becky M and Beth for helping with this surgery event.

We've had two more adoptions!
Leeta was adopted 6/17. She went into a home with a young girl. The pictures I've seen are so sweet--cuddle and napping time together!

Marti was adopted 6/18. She went into a home with another cat and 2 young boys--both were super with the cats here.
We have more adoptions coming up on Monday and Tuesday early morning.

Zippy, the cat we trapped last week is doing good.  We see him almost everyday. He's making friends with the other Porchies.

We have 2 kittens that are going with a friend of mine. Both are very shy and needs extensive hands on.  They are Bluster and Carolina.  This is a friend of mine that devotes her time to help rescues. She saves "3 slots" each summer for FFRC. Their medical care (vacc's, etc) will continue there.

We have thanks to give!
Anthony M--donation in honor of Derecho
Kelly I--donation to FFRC
Deb T from MA--donation to FFRC
Burgundy--donation to help with the kittens medicines
Nicole J--donation to FFRC

Extra big thanks to Robin (Elsie's mom). Robin is the creator of the beautiful Fordite jewelry. She made a donation of $300 to FFRC for her sales!

Our Flash Sale was Weds. It was all about Purses, made by Leggygal! We made $600 just from that flash sale! Many thanks also to our Flashie Mods!

Many of you know that Steve and I usually go to Shipshewana in May for our anniversary. Due to the coronavirus, we did not go as many of the places we visit were closed.  If all goes as planned, we are going this Tuesday and will be back on Thursday.  The volunteers have things covered!

Frankie's feeding tube was removed Saturday morning. He proceeded to eat up a storm!  He was then taken back to his Covie home! This morning he ate a good breakfast.  We still have 3 more dentals to get in. They are already scheduled.

We have more kittens on hold! Those are: Josiah Thomas, Xibowa, Muddles, Keefer, Aura, Arch, Chico, Otis and Mr. Fluffypants.

We have an adoption Monday at 5 pm
Another adoption Tuesday early morning at 8:15

And we have BOXES Monday at noon!  Hope you can join us!  You all take good care--stay healthy and  enjoy your pets.

Tuesday, June 16, 2020

Tico and Taco have found their forever home!  They are now with Painteddaisy and hubby. Many thanks to Gem and her nephew for driving them half way to meet them. They have went from initially to being quiet here to silly fun cats these last couple weeks.  I wondered if they would be shy at first with Painted, but nope! She talked to them most of the way home and slept with them the first night. They are bonded to her. And both are enjoying their new home and loving the windows and all of the attention!  Two great adoptions!

Muddles is now doing wonderful. He's running, playing, acting like a kitten with endless energy! His appetite is good. He is fully recovered!

There for quite some time, the kittens were mostly playing around Paddy's Place area. Now, they are in every room, acting like crazy kittens. That palm tree in the Kitty Kabana is taking a beating--saw 4 kittens on it at one time today.

Monday was HumaneOhio Day. I always love these days! A lot of work but........just think how many cats and kittens are reached by these events!  We sent up 40 cats this time. This broke down to 24 females and 16 males. Two of those females are FFRC kittens--Marti and ChloeBear. Our safety system for check ins and check outs seem to be working smoothly.  Many thanks to Lynnette, Gem and Becky M for your help. Something I think is pretty neat of HumaneOhio. As you would guess, they feel strongly about spaying and neutering. To help them catch up from being off due to the coronavirus for a couple months, they have been working 7 days a week.  I believe, they are now doing 6 days a week--all in trying to help with the overpopulation problem.

This Saturday is our next FFRC surgery day. We won't know exactly which kittens we will have spayed/neutered until Friday, when we re-weigh them.  We would also like to get more physicals done.

We have thanks to give!  YOU are so appreciated!
Christopher S--donation to FFRC
Deborah S--donation to FFRC
James R--donation to FFRC
Scott & Selena--donation in memory of Scott's dad--he loved animals.
JBR from FL--donation to FFRC
Audy & Gary P--donation for a Happy Birthday to Coralie!
Pamela C--donation to FFRC
Jay H from WA_-donation to FFRC
Kelly I--donation to FFRC, for all the kitties and staff!
Fran D--donation for a Happy Birthday to Vernon
Lynne W--donation to FFRC

We've taken on a few more kittens---2 seperate litters and 2 individuals
Sky--female, orange tiger weight 16 ounces, birthdate 5/15/20
Silvy--female, grey/white, weight 1.03
Ecee (s-c) Rose---female, muted calico, weight 1.03

Ralphie--male, beige, weight 1.15, birthdate 4/25/20
Raphael--male, white & Buff, weight 2.02
Roxi--female, torti, weight 1.15

Bluster--female, black long hair, 14 ounces, birthdate 5/11/20
Mr. Fluffypants--male, white long hair, weight 2.07, birthdate 4/10/20

Names are all from Name a Cat list. All kittens are in the back Thumper's Room--in the top and bottom condo.  Between all of these kittens, we have a few issues--fungus, lice, fleas and 1 being frail (Bluster).  But, all issues are being addressed and attended to.  Our goal is to have them all in the Kitty Campus Room on Friday. We will need to use all condo space on Saturday for surgeries.

We also finally trapped a cat we've been working on for a couple weeks. Presto....finally, he went into a trap.  He's been hanging around here--we told him he was welcome but he MUST be neutered. So....he finally went into the trap!  He's been neutered, vaccinated, flea prevention applied, wormed and checked.  He is back out now on the farmyard. We call him a Porchie. His name is Zippy, a brown tiger. His birthday is 6/5/19.

Sylvan was suppose to have had a dental yesterday but the second he saw the crate, zoooom, he was gone. So, I started looking at other cats teeth and picked Frank to go up. Thanks to Martha and Larry for transporting him up and back. Frank is only 2 1/2 years old but his poor teeth were awful. That's why x-rays at the time of a dental are so important--tell more of a story of how the teeth are. He had 15 removed. The back of his mouth was very swollen. Remember the trouble we had with Lucas? So did Dr. Darcy, so she put a feeding tube in Frankie. He's down on the floor of the front Thumper's Room. His main "job" is rubbing and rubbing and rubbing on our legs! He's such a great boy. He took his breakfast and lunch via the feeding tube like a pro. Hoping that will be out within a week. He's on antibiotics and soreness meds.

Take care!  Tomorrow is a busy day. We have a Flash Sale plus families coming in to look at the kittens for possible adoptions.

We've had a few more adoptions!
Basani & Kimmie were adopted together on 6/11.  They went into a big house with a side porch that overlooks their woods. They feed the wildlife and so that will mean some fun watching for these two girls. I've already heard from the lady who adopted them--all 3 of them are enjoying themselves together!

Dreamy was adopted on 6/11. I've already seen a picture of her--she looks very happy. Taking a nap after much exploring! Such a beauty. She is one of Basani's kittens.

We are starting to make appointments to look at kittens, for the next round of adoptions! Otis and Arch were put on holds yesterday.

Tomorrow, Sunday, our 2 T-boys leave us--Taco and Tico. Thanks to Gem and her family for offering to make the trip to meet their new mama--June/painteddaisy!  June and her hubby will meet Gem for the passing over of the boys. These two boys have come a long way. They are so very sweet. They love to roll in catnip, to carry pipecleaners around and to have their backs scratched.  They will travel together in a big comfortable carrier. They will be missed.

Monday is a busy day here at FFRC (but......they all seem very busy!).
5:15 to 6 am--check in for HumaneOhio
Sylvan has to go to the vet's office for his dental.

We had a Flash Sale on Weds. It was all about Biggeydews and Bowl Holders. This Sale brought in $285.  Many thanks! It truly takes a group effort to make these Flash Sales work!

As you may know, our little Muddles had been quite sick earlier this week.  Between many treatments, he is finally improving.  And sweet URI kept him company during much of the time he was in a condo, resting. Muddles is now doing much better, is stronger and is back in the main area, under watchful eyes.

The kittens are all doing wonderful. They can zoom with speediness, purr in high volume, eat like a tiger, sleep like a log, play as only a kitten can. And then they do it all over again!  They are a healthy lot!

The cats have asked me to send this message out from them---"Thank you for everything you have done and know that you are loved by all of us".

I've said this before, but it bears a repeat! We have a sign here at FFRC--it says: "This Rescue Center is a Place of Joy!  Please....only bring peace, friendship and a good heart in our Rescue Center.  Derecho and the other residents came up with this. And the reason........this is how we should approach so many things in life.

You all take good care, have a great weekend and stay healthy!

Sunday, June 7, 2020

Here a Flacr!  There a Flacr!  We have lots of Flacrs!  What started out as a Friday fundraiser event, went from Thursday afternoon to just now, Sunday early morning. I think I'm caught up!  You all kept me hopping busy on the computer--all good things as it meant lots of response!

I was blown away by the totals.  We ended up doing 10 rounds. The first round was Friday at 6:30 am.  We had 7 rounds on Friday.  Then we did 3 rounds on Sunday, the last being at 4:30 pm.  Just this morning though, we've got the final paypals and notes and believe we are totally caught up!

Sit down.......your feet will come out from under you with this total!  Here's the seperate round totalss:
Round 1: $5,140
Round 2: $6,585.75
Round 3: $7,270.75
Round 4: $8,300.75
Round 5: $10,038.99
Round 6: $11,809.74
Round 7: $13,216.43
Round 8: $15,532.42
Round 9: $16,932.82
Round 10: $21,502.00

And then.........we had bumper uppers, coins tossed in and a challenge of a cartwheel challenge too!
All together now, our GRAND TOTAL is:  $21,859.83.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!  I never expected that. You know, how you hope and wish?  I was hoping we could get $5,000 from this fundraiser. You all blew that apart in the very first Round!

I am so extremely appreciative. I have learned once again......never ever underestimate the FFRCNation! You folks are the most kindest, most compassionate, most supportive group I hae ever met. And I thank you for this very wonderful event.

Our big Liability Insurance bill will be paid.  Our vet bill will be paid.  We have some repairs and maintenance things to do that we have put off--we will get a few of those done.  And then, a little bit will be tucked away for an extreme emergency.  A padding.  A nest egg.  And it won't be touched except if truly needed.

I thank you all for your support. I thank you for your kindness, your words of encouragement. I thank you for your gifts that keep FFRC going. I thank you for your confidence in us. I thank you for the hope you instill in us. Thank you for letting me lean on you. And very much.....thank you for your

One of our newest kittens, Otis is doing great. He's up in the Main Area and immediately made friends. I think he's covered at least 100 miles so far--he loves to run and play!

We also took on a new kitten!  Her name is CHloe Bear, a Name a Cat name.  She is a gold tiger/white kitten, weighing 1.08.  She is 6 weeks old and was born on 4/23/20.  She arrived 6/4.  She is a tad bit shy but is making friends. I just KNOW there's a purr in there for us to hear soon!

Take care to you all.  Know that you are appreciated. Wishing you a relaxing wonderful Sunday.

Thursday, June 4, 2020

Tomorrow is Fiver FLACR Friday.  Being a FLACR simply means you can donate a fiver (or more) to help FFRC!  We have lost many fund-raisers due to the Coronavirus.

Fivers ($5) add up and will be a super bonus help to us! Or even a Oner!
Flacr stands for:
F--FUN-RAISER--so far we have cancelled 4 of these--March, April, May and June.
L--LILAC--the Defiance Lilac Festival in May was cancelled. We use that event as a PR and a fund-raiser
A--ART--One of our volunteers was going to hold a BIG art class, here at FFRC, cancelled
C--CATATHON--sadly, there was no way we could hold this event. 1) asking people to donate items for Catathon--too much financial stress already on our friends. 2) there was no way we could get this planned and hold this event while trying to keep safe and healthy.
R--RECITAL--our June Dance Concession Recital was cancelled. This was always a fund-raiser for FFRC.
So, there you have it. FLACR simply stands for all the fund-raisers we have had to cancel.
Please know I do not expect this Fiver to cover all of these cancelled fund-raisers. There's simply no way and I would never ever expect that. If we can recoup even some of the funds, that will be enough to be thankful for.
Then Friday----let the Fivers begin! I will, approximately every 2 hours give updates. And we'll show these on the chart. We will also put any donors names on cards that will go onto a rope "thingy" that LJ is working on, so all can see.
Oh--big news! Anyone who donates $50 or more, will have their name put into a bin. The winning name drawn will receive a BSIMB Digital Picture Frame, upgraded Digital Photo frame 8".
Plus, we will do 8 random drawings of whatever names we have at that time. We will send those 8 people a gift from FFRC! Pretty neat stuff!

We'll also have a bit of storytime on Friday.  And of course, the cats and kittens have been bathing, napping to look rested, practicing their purrs--they heard that we will have some kitty/cat parades too during the event on Friday!

Be a FLACR for FFRC! We have had some vet appointments and many FFRC spays/neuters that this FIVER will help with.  We have also put off some of our maintenance and repair. I don't like to get too far behind on that as it then piles up on us.

We had BOXES yesterday and we are very thankful!

We had 3 more adoptions!
Tango was adopted on 6 /1. Tango went into his new home where he is the only cat--going to be super loved by his new mom and dad! Tango is a Minnie kitten.
Toolie was adopted 6/1. He went into a home with 2 other cats. Tollie arrived here with his sister Taffeta who is already adopted.
Davena was adopted 6/2. She went into a home where her new mama has been waiting for her and has her whole home set up for a kitten!  Davena is a Minnie kitten.

We also took on a new kitten. He had been found in a yard.  A home was thought to be had but it didn't work out, so he came to FFRC. His name is Otis, a Name a Cat name. He's a brown tiger and white and has a cute white tip tail!  He's 6 1/2 weeks old with a birthday of 4/19/20.  He arrived on 6/3. Since he was in a home already, we hurried his quarantine time so he could have some play friends.  Otis came up to the main area this morning and has been running non-stop, playing and jumping and racing around. A real sweet boy.

Thanks to everyone for what you do for FFRC.  Each and everyone of you are important to FFRC--you make a HUGE difference to the lives of the cats. For that, I am grateful. As always, I promise to always do my very best for FFRC--to withhold the goodness of what we stand for, to help each cat and kitten know that their lives matter.

Monday, June 1, 2020

The first day of June--time simply goes too fast.  Time for us all to put the brakes on and enjoy each and every day! Lots of catching up to do here!

Saturday was our FFRC surgery day.  Many thanks to Dr. Darcy, Amber, Lynnette and Becky M for helping. ALl went fine--just a lot of little kittens!
The spays were: Carolina, Dreamy, Jenga, Taffeta, Minnie, Leeta, Gypsy and Davena.
The neuters were: Perseus, Toolie, URI, Arvo, Tango, Vasil and Raseus

Uri provided some fun entertainment.  Minnie even comforted the kittens the whole day, even when she was in recovery. Perseus got an A+ from Dr. Darcy--his rear leg with the 2 fractures appear to be healing nicely! Uri is fine just like he is--no matter his legs are splayed a bit--there is nothing he can't do if he wants to!  All the physicals were good.

This makes our total 2020 surgery count at 414.  I know we are behind what we were hoping for, for this time of year.........but the Coronavirus got in the way.  So far, we've done 233 females and 181 males.  A total of 414, plus 1 dog!

Taco and Tico also received their physicals.  Both passed with flying colors. We did their rabies vaccine since they will be going to a different state.  It was announced the other day on chat--the good news of where they will be living!  Their new home will be with our good friend Painteddaisy! I am so happy for her.  Taco and Tico are our two brothers, known as the T Boys--both are Ragamuffins. Black and white, striking facial looks.  Tico has a bit of curled ears too.  They have just turned 1 and are in good health and have been well loved. I personally know where they came from--a great home but life changes sometimes and that makes for a different home. We will be making plans soon on transporting the boys half way to Painteddaisy!

Lucas is now back in the Cove and is doing great!  That was a bit of recovery for him.  He gets chicken and special treats. I think he's playing this now for all he can get......which is absolutely ok with us!

Azreal has become a Covie.  My initial plan was to take her down a few times to get use to the Covie life. But......no, that didn't happen.  She was running, playing, climbing, having an absolutely good time.  She went, she stayed and she loves it!

Many thanks to you all for helping us with our Flash Sale that was Thursday!  We appreciate you! And thanks too to the Flashy Mods for your help. And to Joni for providing the cat tiles. Also to Donnajb for the canvas cat pictures! She not only provided the canvas pictures but she took each of those pictures!  The Flash Sale brought in $759 (includes bump ups!)

Did you know that if you go thru our website at fofrescue.org and click on Amazon to make any orders, that FFRC gets a kick back on your purchases, whether it's for a personal use or for FFRC?! We just received an amount of $186.27--that's like free money!  Easy to do and much appreciated!

Keefer is doing much better with his rear legs.  Dr. Darcy does feel that this possibly may be from an injury that caused a bit of neurological malfunction of those rear legs. Plus, he was emaciated upon arrival. He keeps eating, sleeping and getting stronger! He can now run and play and loves to be loved on. His back legs are not 100% yet but definitely so much improved.

Muddles too was looked at by Dr. Darcy. She feels his rear legs too is from an injury. He certainly is doing better also. Both legs getting stronger. He plays a lot and then he's out for a nap!

We've taken in 5 new kittens.
Shaz arrived on 5/28. He's a 1.06 male kitten, orange tiger with white feet. He's 6 weeks old. He was simply found outside with 2 siblings which were already placed in homes.  His birthday is 4/16/20. He's a cutie and is really enjoying the chin rubs.

4 kittens arrived together on 5/26. They are 3 1/2 weeks old, weighing between 10 to 13 ounces--just itty babies. We syringe fed them for a couple days but then they took right off onto their foods. They love gruel! Their birthday is 5/2/20. They were found in a box in a garage. Mama never came back after depositing the last kitten.
Aura--grey tiger, female
Arch--dark grey, ASH, male
Cassiopeia--gold/white, female
Chico--gold/more white, male
All names are from the Name a Cat list.  Shaz and the other 4 kittens have become great friends already.
