We now have the Running of the Cats here in the Rescue Center. The laser light can get about 15 of them running and running and running. The funny thing is, on the cam, you cannot see the red dot, so it just looks like the cats are running amuck.  What fun! 

What an awesome day so far! We have had two adoptions already today, starting at 6:15 am. The first one to leave was little sweet Callen. That kitten has so much love to give--he can not get enough or give enough--it just oozes out of him! He went to a home of 5 people--lots of love to give. The second one was our wonderful Kukster! He went to a home with another young adult cat and a mom/dad. They already love him and Kukster sure did show that he likes them very much here at the center. Good news!

Kiko is busily trying to bury a plate of food. He obviously doesn't like it. All the toys in a 7 foot circle are being pushed over to the plate and piled on top of the plate. Pania is sniffing and examining a spot of snow that came in on someone's shoe. Melia is licking the snow now! Turtle reached out to our visitor just now and patted him for attention. Meowzer is now trying to pull the toys off of the plate so she can have some lunch! These cats....always making me laugh! 

We took in a new kitten yesterday. She was an "I found her on my porch and don't want her" type of kitten. A real beauty. She's about 13 weeks old, black/white, so very thin. She's been tested, vaccinated and is starting on her way to having an FFRC belly! No name yet, but soon.

Our Christmas tree is up, or I should say upside down! We hung our upside down Christmas tree yesterday. It's beautiful. It has lights and ornaments. We had fun putting it together. The cats are worried though--how is Santa going to put Christmas presents around the tree when it's hanging from the ceiling? I told them not to worry! They've been good kitties and will get a special Christmas breakfast! 

All is well here. The kittens enjoyed watching the little bit of snow that we got, from the Kitty Kabana windows. We have those wonderful bird feeders there too so it's quite entertaining.

What a glorious day we had yesterday! Ernest biopsy reports came back clear--nothing, nada, a-ok! The lab report said that the vet took a very safe and wide margin of tissue away and none of the edges show any bad cells. They even went so far as to say he "is cured"!!  What wonderful news. So, I immediately called Deb B and told her the news. Now we could talk about her family cat crew! Her home is now cat-free and she's ready once again to have a cat family! So, five is a good number for her to have. She will take awesome care of them and they will be well loved and cared for. The five that she'll take? Well, that would be Ernest, Alaska, Raza, Merlin and Arden.  Did I say Raza?!  Yes! Raza too. And Raza can be who she wants to be with Deb--herself!

Today started extra early as we had 3 kittens leaving for the airport. Connie D and Angie left this morning with Keeley, Camilla and Sasha in tow--in 2 soft sided crates. They are right at this moment, very close to their destination--Portland Airport in Maine. Courtney is waiting for them to pick up her kittens! Later this afternoon, Angie and Connie will fly back home. Another wonderful home where they will be loved forever!

We took in a new kitten yesterday. He's a handsome black tiger, about 14 weeks old. He's very thin and has some skin issues. I believe he was tossed from a car. He has the obvious "pizza face"--with a large portion of his upper lip gone from injury. He also had a tooth that was just hanging there which was already removed. His front leg is not a functional leg--apparently the nerve there has been severed by the impact. There's no fixing something like that. If left on, these are the kind of legs that are dragged about until the skin opens and can become a constant source of infection. The leg is literally non usable. If Dr. Darcy feels he is healthy enough on Saturday, we will have it removed. A very happy boy who can sure purr. His name is Hark (in honor of Christmas).

Happy Birthday to Mayor Anony! He is now 3 years old. Anony arrived when he was just 11 months old. He's a very handsome flamepoint cat. It's been just a little over a year since he's been voted in as Mayor of the Cat's Cove. He wears that title well and has made big strides for his Covies. They now get more treats, fresh toys all the time and extra winter heater beds! Happy day to you, Mayor!

The Day Sale is over and I'm very thankful for the results. Everything that we had up for sale has been sold. In the "behind the scenes", during the sale, people are already in the Mail Room organizing the items in preparation of sending out. Today will be a big day of packing and shipping. We want everything out asap, as many are for Christmas gifts. Thank you to the mods for helping with this event. Big thanks to Jenni C, Lynnette, Angie and Bill, Amy, Dawn E, Jimmy.  Thanks to all the people who put their bids in and thanks to those that won! All around, it was fun! Thanks to Teresa B for the pizza--it was scrumptous.

Ernest had his 8 big tension sutures removed on Saturday. As was promised him, he could come out of his room after these were removed. So, during the day he's out and about. Mostly he's up on top of my desk again with Alaska. He's been sleeping at night in June's Room. His incision is healing beautifully. Hopefully, we will find the results out today.

We had two adoptions over the weekend. Intrepid left with his new dad. Sounds like this will be a very nice home for Intrepid. Clark also left. I've received a picture of him already climbing on his cat walks. He looks very happy! Pasha did not leave on the weekend due to the weather but should be leaving today.

Mary E the volunteer was here this morning. We accomplished many things--cleaned ears, trimmed toenails, got the flea prevention applied to those that needed their monthly treatment, vaccinations caught up, wormings done. We also did 4 repeat FIV/leukemia tests (4 weeks after arrival) and they were all negative.  A good morning!

Rian is growing like a weed! What a nice kitten. Bella is all sprawled out about 3 1/2 feet. She's sleeping in a stretched out position. Melia is playing with one of the lazer bird toys--one of the best fun-providing toy ever. Preakness is trying to bury a mouse toy in the water bowl. Not sure how she thinks she can accomplish this, but she gets an A for effort!  Dodger is busy trying to bury another toy--the crinkle toy--under a big leggydew.  It's all in one giant heap. 

Tomorrow our sweetie threesome calicos will be leaving. Camilla, Sasha and Keeley will be going on a plane to reach their new mama Courtney in Maine. Big thanks to Connie D and Angie for their willingness to take them on their trip. Connie's carrier will have Camilla and Sasha and Angie's carrier will have Keeley. They will be leaving FFRC about 3:50 am tomorrow. I heard this morning, in the Kabana Room, a trio of singers singing "I'm leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again", etc.  They even had Octavia groovin' to the music! 

This Saturday is our next Surgery Day. We'll be working on Who is Due on, Wednesday. We'll be weighing and checking our list.

Our new little calico has a name. It is Zata (another Catathon name). She is doing much better today. She's a lucky little kitten to have survived a direct head roll with very minimal problems. She's made friends with little Miss Molly. They shared the heater this morning and I do believe Miss Molly was given a full half hour of sniffing from Zata. Miss Molly looked at her without taking any offense!

Shamballi was sleeping on the fourth tier of the kuranda tower--he is just doing awesome. He's slow going which is fine. Such a brave boy. Ernest continues to do well. Alaska spent some time with her brother this morning. Tomorrow is the big day for Ernest to get those tension sutures out. After that we will be able to let him out to cruise about. He will be so happy!

Solee is forever on the hunt for the spring coil toys. She loves them! Will carry them around forever in her mouth--she must be watching Paddy Cake and Farrah. Merri has been experimenting with climbing. She can now safely climb up 5 levels on the Kuranda Tower. The look of accomplishment is pure joy to see. Whisk is laying beside Intrepid while he's sleeping. When Intrepid's tail moves, Whisk smacks it. I wonder how long until Intrepid wants to swat Whisk! Pasha just climbed by herself, into Dodger's Pen. She is simply amazing.

Camvie loves the dogs. When we leave the dogs in and out, she's the first to zip into the room with them. We let her stay there--she plays and naps with Janie. Janie loves her Camvie friend. Apache is sleeping by my desk, with a purple Beth-blanket draped over him. Last night the cats had a blast. They had their UPS brown paper everywhere--from one end to the other. They love it when they get this--their favorite toy!

Tabitha has built her paper towel nest up even more last night, plus she chewed up a roll of paper towel and has that in reserve--right beside her nest. This is definitely her favorite place to nap. I actually saw Rian sleeping at the top of the palm tree in the Kitty Kabana room yesterday. He seemed secure enough, so I didn't disturb him. He is so sweet. Wayne and Garth not only are brothers but very good friends. Always playing together.

Thursday, December 5

Next week our upsidedown Christmas tree will go up! We received this as a gift last year and we love it! It'll be secured to the ceiling and decorated. No danger for the cats!

Ernest had his surgery on Tuesday and came home soon afterwards. His incision is 7 1/2 inches long--it's a doozy. Here's the scoop--Dr. Darcy was very aggressive in the tissue that was removed. She ended up taking 5 cm's top and bottom and 4 cm's side to side. She marked all margins very carefully. This way if one of the tissue reports come back unclean, she will know exactly where it came from and can remove it. She is feeling very good about Ernest. If all margins come back negative, she feels we will be in the clear. He's on antibiotics and soreness meds. The tension sutures will be removed Saturday and the rest in 10 days from surgery date. He's doing awesome. That boy is determined to beat this! He's eating great. So..now we wait. We may possibly get the report back on Saturday. I'll give him kisses and hugs from all of you!

Walter had his 1st birthday yesterday. Betz had us bring in a birthday cake for the volunteers in honor of Walter. He also received a case of Evo that will be shared at breakfast times. Walter is also sporting a new collar from Betz. It's a superman collar because he's a super boy! He now has his GPS on his collar along with an ID tag, bell (he's the only one with a bell) and a superman charm, representing his superness!  He's really one special cat-friend!

We will have BOXES tonight! Because I missed the last two nights, let's start BOXES at 5:30! Sounds like fun to me!

Remember you will need to be signed on to put your name in on an item.

Want to have some Christmas fun for children? We have just found out that the Maine Children's Cancer Center has our FFRC kittycam up for the kids and parents to view! I understand it's bringing joy to them which makes us very happy to bring a smile to them. We would like to send Christmas cards to the children from FFRC.  If you'd like to join in please do! Here's all you need to do:
Send a kid's Christmas card, signed with your chat name OR your first name only  from FFRC (like Kissycat of FFRC), do not include any gifts (cards only), can add a little note.  Send it to FFRC very soon with Attn: Maine Cancer Center for Children on the envelope anywhere. That way I will know it's for the children. We will gather them up and send them well in time before Christmas, but we need to get busy on this now.  I appreciate your help with this project. Bless these children.

Remember if you'd like to participate in the FFRC quilt project, your 7 by 7 inch quilt squares need to be sent in and received by December 31.  There is no skill or sewing needed! Just two squares of 100% cotton are all that is needed by you. You can send in plain fabric, cat themed, a sewn appliqued square or something that represents your country. This is turning into such a fun project that virtually EVERYONE in the FFRC Nation can participate in! All is fine here at FFRC. The cats are healthy for which I'm extremely grateful for. They're happy and so enjoy life! Rian is growing. Miss Molly gained another 1/2 ounce. PJ, our new grey cat from Phil and Judy was adopted by the vet tech at the vet clinic where he went for his neuter. It was a great connection! I understand that Juby and Venus are adjusting well to their new homes. Callan cannot get enough TLC--what a charmer he is. Keeley is now a professional wheel runner! George is a super purrer. Pania can sniff a treat anywhere! Shamballie was laying with a coil toy this morning. 

There's a song I like that can apply to our cats and kittens! I told the cats today that our love never fails, never gives up, never runs out on them. We are committed to them. We can apply that to our family, friends and pets!

1,2,3,4,5--that's how many kittens are on my desk.  6,7,8--that's how many kittens are playing either in my lap or behind me on the chair.  All totaled up---that's why takes me ten times longer to do things! Would I change anything?  Nope! 

Ernest has already been delivered to the vet's office. Dr. Darcy left me a message late last night that she and Dr. P are all ready for Ernest's big day. This is a big deal surgery. As soon as they give the word that he is done, we'll be picking him up and bringing him back home. Prayers for Ernest, the vets, the vet tech's--all involved. Before we packed him in his crate, I showed him to Alaska, who promptly touched his nose. 

Our new grey young cat that Judy and Phil brought in on Sunday is doing good. His name is PJ, for Phil and Judy! He's about 10 months old. They've had him a couple weeks and was waiting for us to have room to take PJ in. I have an appointment for him to be neutered. When I made this appointment, the vet tech has expressed interest in him already! We shall see what happens. He had lots of cuddle time yesterday.

Joyful loves napping in a box that's on her desk. Joline made about 10 trips from the Welcome Room Office to the main area---back and forth and back and forth! Oh, the things we do for these sweeties! Snappy and Arden are rough housing together. They yelp, stop and start licking each other. Then when settled down, off they go again. Pure fun play! Anna Marie is playing with a crinkle tunnel with Jemison. Zelda is trying to decide if she really wants to share the desk here with Miss Marti and Camilla. She's not so sure!

Wow--we took one very very full vehicle to the postal service yesterday! More afghans, wreaths, items should be arriving at their destinations soon!

Our sweet Venus went to her new home. Kate and Roger arrived home with their new sweetie. Sounds like all is going good. She will be one pampered kitten--just what we want. I'd also like to thank them for their heapful of items they donated to FFRC. Something of everything, including two roasted chickens that was deboned and given to all (including Porchies & Covies)). The cats devoured it up! Thank you so much for helping FFRC.

Derecho has been a bit unstable in his balance lately--more so than before. He's been wearing his vest on most days and this seems to help. Lorenzo is now sporting the Christmas vests that Derecho wore a year ago. He's been playing and getting about just fine this morning with his vest. 

Apache, the new black kitten with extra toes is doing great. His feet are healing. Several of his pads appear to have been scraped off. A bit sore, but healing has begun. He has a motor that doesn't stop. He had arrived on Thanksgiving. 

The cats have their ham bone! Their Auntie Judy (sister volunteer) always provides this for the cats. They LOVE it. It requires hours and hours of gnawing and chewing. Keeps them busy!

Happy Christmas month! May the joy and peace of this season be with you!

The Generator/Jenna Radar Fundraiser is now over! Oh my goodness--the result of this is simply mind-boggling to me. The support shown overwhelms me and gives me much pleasure and gratitude. This fundraiser was such a success because of YOU.....our friends of FFRC. I am so grateful.

We had so much fun at the Name Drawing. There were almost 55 names drawn for various items. In addition to what was on the list, we added a quillow, another afghan (pinks/white cat on the fence), 2 wreaths, santa cat bed, a crocheted Christmas rug.  Many thanks to those that made these items. The talent of so many of you is astounding. 

We also had special entertainment by Jimmy, who was given a challenge! Show his tu-tu again, a couple of his famous ballerina poses and sing 12/10 Days of Christmas! And he did it!  He raised $265 for being such a good sport. Thanks Jimmy and thanks to the supporters!

Now for the finale! We were hurriedly adding last minute donations to the very end!  The add-on donations for 11/28 and 11/29 was $3150.  This brought our TOTAL TO:  $14,745!!!!  Yippee, hooray, I'm so thankful!!  

We will pay for the generator in full, pay for the two propane tank's top-offs and for the extended warranty. Many of the donors had  put if we went over our need, then to apply excess on to our medical needs. So, this is what we will do.  Every day we give meds, whether it be wormers, vaccinations, antibiotics, healing creams, meds for tummy troubles--the list goes on and on. This excess amount will help us with these everyday items!

This week we will also be putting out great effort to get everything in the mail and sent to everyone. It takes time to box and pack but we'll get it done. Please always know if you have not received something within a reasonable amount of time, never hesitate to let us know. We really do want to get everything correct.

The kittens are flying high this morning. Pouncing, diving, crashing into each other, racing around like crazy cats. Lots of energy here at FFRC. It's amazing how rough they can be one minute, then the next they're cuddling and purring away with each other. Yesterday we had 7 adults on the high pink poof all napping together. So sweet to see. We also had lots of visitors yesterday which the cats and kittens all love--even more TLC being handed out!

Our little Miss Molly had a bit of a set-back. She has lost 3 ounces due to diarrhea. We've worked hard on correcting this and today seems a bit better. She's now down just 2.5 ounces. She only weighed 1.6 upon arrival. Her activity level is good. I so wish we could surgically fix that leg. She's being a real good sport about it and taking it easy on that leg. When she gets bigger, the vets will reevaluate the situation.

Shamballie is awesome! He is finally, very carefully, putting a bit of weight on his newly pinned leg. His appetite is good. He is now out of his pen about 12 hours a day--just taking it easy and enjoying watching the other cats. Soon we will bring him up into the main area.

We had an adoption yesterday! Juby went with Donia/WickedWings. While we will miss this extra sweet boy very much, I know that Donia will give him a wonderful home. I'm very happy for DOnia and Juby. 

The Porchies are doing great. They had a day of running and investigating on Friday as this is usually one of their "get out of the City" days. They always stay close and come back in for supper. Today, Sunday, is their 2nd day of the week to have their door left open. These are the two days that their Auntie Connie is here. They love her!

All is well. The oldsters are all doing good. Magenta continues with her many meals a day so she is happy. Ada Jane loves napping on the vibrating dryer. Putter is enjoying watching sports with Steve and laying on his special bed/blankie.  

Whisk! He and his brother Snappy are two handsome tuxies.
